The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi government has introduced a new initiative aimed at empowering women and transgender individuals through the allocation of electric autos. Announced on Monday, the DURGA e-auto scheme will enable eligible applicants to own and drive these vehicles, thereby creating employment opportunities in public transport.

Distribution and Eligibility Criteria

Initially, 1,300 pink e-autos will be distributed, with the first phase comprising 1,170 for women and 130 for transgender persons. Each revenue district will have a limit of 90 e-autos allocated to women and 10 to transgender individuals, ensuring a fair distribution across the city.

Eligibility for women includes being between twenty and forty years old and a resident of Delhi. Additionally, applicants must possess a valid Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) driving licence and a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) badge. Furthermore, an annual family income limit of Rs 5 lakh applies, along with conditions regarding the number of living children, which should not exceed three.

Transgender applicants are subject to similar eligibility requirements, including age and residency stipulations, along with holding the appropriate driving and PSV credentials. The comprehensive framework aims to ensure that the initiative reaches the intended groups effectively.

Application Process and Lottery System

The application portal for the DURGA e-auto scheme is now open and will remain accessible for a duration of three months. Interested candidates must submit their applications online during this period to be considered for the initiative. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted that the launch of the portal marks the beginning of a significant step towards enhancing livelihood opportunities for women and transgender persons.

If the number of eligible applications exceeds the available quota in any district by the time the application window closes, beneficiaries will be selected through an online lottery system. This method aims to ensure transparency and fairness in the allotment process, thereby making the scheme inclusive for all interested applicants who meet the specified criteria.

Gupta also expressed her commitment to improving the employment landscape in Delhi by facilitating greater participation of women and transgender persons in the public transport sector. By providing access to this mode of livelihood, the government hopes to empower these communities further and foster economic independence.

Anticipated Impact of the Scheme

The DURGA e-auto scheme has the potential to create significant changes in the lives of its beneficiaries by promoting self-employment and contributing to the larger push for inclusivity in the workforce. With 1,300 e-autos available for allocation, this initiative could serve as a model for similar programmes in other regions across India.

As the scheme progresses, the Delhi government aims to monitor its impact on the targeted communities, gathering feedback from participants to assess the effectiveness of this programme. The emphasis will be on continuous improvement to meet the needs of women and transgender persons engaging in public transport.

In summary, the DURGA e-auto scheme is a pioneering effort by the Delhi government to empower women and transgender individuals in the realm of livelihood opportunities. Through this initiative, the administration seeks to inspire broader engagement and participation from marginalized groups within the workforce, ultimately contributing to a more equitable society.
