Decomposed Body Parts of Missing Schoolgirl Found in Sack in West Bengal; Teacher Arrested

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a horrifying incident that has shocked West Bengal, the mutilated body of a 13-year-old schoolgirl, missing for nearly four weeks, was recovered from a ditch in Kalidanga village in Birbhum district. The Class 7 student had been missing since August 22. Her teacher, Manoj Kumar Pal, has been arrested and has confessed to abducting and murdering her.

“The parents of the girl have lodged a complaint alleging that the teacher had been touching their daughter inappropriately several times. The accused has admitted to kidnapping and murdering the girl before dumping her body,” the officer was quoted as saying.

Missing Since August 22

The girl, a resident of Rampurhat, left home on the morning of August 22 to attend her tuition class but never returned. Her family lodged a missing person’s report the same day. Despite extensive searches, there were no leads for almost a month.

It wasn’t until September 17 that a decomposed body was discovered in a waterlogged ditch, stuffed inside a sack around 4 km from the girl’s home. Police confirmed the remains belonged to the missing girl. “We have registered a murder case. No rape charges have been filed yet as we await the postmortem report,” said Birbhum Superintendent of Police Amandeep.

Teacher Confesses After Interrogation

Suspicion quickly fell on one of her school teachers, 42-year-old Manoj Kumar Pal, who taught physics at her school in Shyampahari. The girl had earlier told her mother that the teacher had been sexually harassing her and inappropriately touching her on multiple occasions.

After the girl’s disappearance, her mother informed police about the alleged misconduct. Pal was taken into custody and, after intense interrogation, confessed to kidnapping and murdering the minor. He has been remanded to police custody for nine days. The headmaster of the school expressed shock and said, “We are deeply saddened. We will cooperate fully with the police. The law will take its course.”

Postmortem to Confirm Sexual Assault

Due to the advanced decomposition of the body, it is currently unclear whether the victim was sexually assaulted. However, her remains have been sent for clinical and forensic examination.

“We have registered a murder case. No rape charges have been filed yet as we await the postmortem report,” said Birbhum Superintendent of Police Amandeep. This is a case of murder. Our officers started an investigation after receiving a missing complaint. “After Rampurhat police recovered her decomposed body parts from the ditch around 4km from her home late on Tuesday, the missing person diary was converted into a murder case. “The body was cut into pieces and thrown into the ditch. Based on a complaint by the family, the teacher has been arrested. A murder case has been registered,” said a senior officer of Birbhum district police

School Reacts, Community Outraged

Pal had recently transferred to the school from another institution in Purulia district. The headmaster of the school expressed shock and said, “We are deeply saddened. We will cooperate fully with the police. The law will take its course.”

The brutal nature of the crime has sparked outrage in the local community, with demands for justice and better safety measures for students. “The family filed a missing person complaint after an extensive search. But soon the suspicion fell on the teacher. We arrested him, and after a long interrogation, he confessed to kidnapping and murdering the minor,” a senior police officer in Birbhum said.“The girl’s family had previously informed police about the teacher’s alleged misconduct. The girl had earlier complained to her mother that the teacher would often misbehave with her and inappropriately touch her on several occasions,” the officer added.

Investigation Continues

Police are now investigating whether others were involved in the crime and what the exact motive was. Officers admit the condition of the body makes gathering evidence difficult, but efforts are ongoing.

This tragic incident has raised serious concerns about child safety in educational institutions and the need for stronger mechanisms to protect students from abuse.
