A fresh controversy has erupted in Bihar politics as Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan has been targeted with a death threat on social media, intensifying concerns ahead of the upcoming state elections.
The threat was allegedly issued by an Instagram user going by the name Tiger Meraj Idrisi, who made a chilling statement through a comment on the account of YouTuber journalist Dakshapriya. The suspect posted, “I will blow Chirag Paswan with a bomb on July 20, Chirag Paswan will be killed by me.”
The disturbing message led to immediate legal action. At approximately 9 PM on Friday, July 11, the party’s chief spokesperson Rajesh Bhatt filed a complaint at the Patna Cyber Crime Police Station. The police promptly registered a case, citing Section 66-F of the Information Technology Act (pertaining to cyber terrorism) and Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (relating to criminal intimidation).
In his written complaint, Bhatt stated, “Fearing due to growing popularity of my leader, today through social media, an Instagram account in the name of Tiger Meraj Idrisi has threatened to kill Union Minister Chirag Paswan Ji by blowing him up with a bomb which shows absolutely criminal tendency and involvement in illegal acts.”
Responding to the complaint, Deputy Superintendent of Police Nitish Chandra Dharia, who also heads the Cyber Crime Police Station, confirmed the registration of FIR No. 1592/25, dated July 11. He told reporters, “We have received a complaint regarding a death threat against Union Minister Chirag Paswan through social media. Taking this matter very seriously, a case has been registered immediately. It is being investigated.” The investigation is being led by Inspector Pradeep Kishore Sinha.
As the threat has sparked major concern, Chirag Paswan’s brother-in-law and Jamui MP, Arun Bharti, took to social media platform ‘X’ on July 12 to directly blame the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for instigating the threat. In a fiery post, Bharti wrote, “Fearing an unexpected defeat, the criminal elements of RJD, who want to bring Jungle Raj 2.0 in Bihar, are now in a frenzy, threatening to blow up Chirag Paswan ji with a bomb on social media. We demand that the state government pay attention to providing adequate security arrangements and take strict action against the culprit. Chirag Paswan is the son of a lion! He has never been scared of anyone, nor will he ever be! He will live for Bihar, He will die for Bihar!”
The threatening message surfaced shortly after Chirag Paswan declared his candidacy for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections during a recent rally in Saran. While addressing the crowd, he passionately stated, “Today, from this sacred land of Saran, I am declaring before all of you that yes, I will contest the election. I will contest the election for the people of Bihar, for my brothers, for my mothers, for my sisters, and we will create a system in Bihar, we will build a Bihar that will truly take the state forward on the path of development.”
The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is currently part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which also includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United). While the party is widely expected to continue its alliance with the NDA in the state elections, Chirag Paswan has not made any formal announcement on this yet.
The Bihar assembly elections are anticipated to take place in October or November 2025, although the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not yet finalised or released the official polling dates.
With the political climate heating up and personal threats being issued to top leaders, the upcoming elections are set to unfold under heightened security and scrutiny.
