Daughter Kills Mother Over Black Magic Suspicion In Karnataka

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 33-year-old woman has been arrested in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district for allegedly murdering her mother after an astrologer convinced her that the victim had used black magic to kill her father. The shocking incident has triggered outrage and renewed concern over superstition-driven violence.

The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Pushpavathi, while the accused is her daughter Suchitra, who lived in Tumakuru city with her husband.

Astrologer’s Claims Allegedly Sparked Crime

Police said Suchitra’s father had died about 18 months ago. Struggling to cope with the loss, she reportedly consulted an astrologer, who allegedly told her that her mother had performed black magic that led to her father’s death.

Investigators believe this claim deeply influenced Suchitra and fuelled resentment against her mother. Acting on that belief, she travelled to her mother’s house and carried out the attack.

Mother Killed While Asleep

According to police, Suchitra allegedly suffocated Pushpavathi with a pillow while she was asleep. After the murder, she attempted to stage the death as natural and began making arrangements for the funeral in an apparent effort to dispose of the body quickly.

However, villagers noticed suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and alerted authorities before the cremation could take place.

Arrest After Suspicion Raised

Police reached the scene and detained Suchitra for questioning. During initial interrogation, she reportedly confessed to the crime.

A murder case has been registered at Kyatsandra Police Station, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Investigators are also questioning Suchitra’s husband to determine whether he had any prior knowledge of the alleged plan.

The incident has shocked the local community and highlights the continuing danger posed by superstition and unverified claims influencing vulnerable individuals. Police said further investigation is underway.
