Kolkata Police’s Cyber Crime Division has busted a dating app racket operating from the city’s Minto Park area and arrested 17 persons, including 16 women, involved in the crime. The arrested women are aged between 19 and 35.
The racket members used to run a fake call centre and lure individuals on the pretext of providing companionship and subsequently cheated them of large sums of money. Several electronic gadgets, scripts, bank documents, registers etc. have been seized during raids by the police.
Through a dating app, some residents of Minto Park area were conducting a sex racket. It is reported that the cycle in the Minto Park area operates a dating app. Through that app, the accused ladies met potential clients and lured them into intimacy. Once you get into the trap, you will be duped of your entire money. A lot of people have been duped into this trap and lost huge amount of money into this racket.
Men cheated in the name of friendship and sex
According to the FIR, victims were allegedly contacted through the platforms, persuaded with false promises, and eventually tricked into transferring large sums of money.
A total of 17 people have been arrested on charges of involvement in the dating app racket operated from Minto Park area, of which 16 are female. These women were reported to be cheating on the app users in the name of providing friendship, sex and emotional support. Several electronic gadgets, scripts, bank documents, registers, etc. have been seized during the raid. The search operation is still underway. The arrested accused was produced before the court on Wednesday.
The police are continuing raids to find more evidence. Further investigation is underway to trace the financial trail of the call centre and identify any other accomplices.
Kolkata sex racket busted: 10 rescued, 6 arrested
The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Kolkata Police last month rescued 10 people, including nine minor girls, and arrested six persons for running a sex racket. Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a house in the Burtolla police station area of North Kolkata. A total of 10 people, including nine minors, were rescued from the house.
Watchman accused of running sex racket in government school in West Bengal
A watchman was accused of running a sex racket inside a government school in West Bengal’s Balurghat in September this year. The accused allegedly ran sex racket inside the school building at night and turned off CCTV cameras to hide evidence. The incident took place at Badamail Lakshmi Pratap High School in Balurghat block. The accused Kanu Debnath, who worked as a watchman in night shift was suspended by the school authorities on charges of running a sex racket.
