Maharashtra ITI: महाराष्ट्र सरकार राज्य के 20 औद्योगिक प्रशिक्षण संस्थानों (आईटीआई) में अत्याधुनिक प्रयोगशालाएं स्थापित करेगी। इस पहल का उद्देश्य तकनीकी शिक्षा को भविष्य की जरूरतों के अनुरूप ढालना, रोजगार के अवसर बढ़ाना और दिव्यांग छात्रों को मुख्यधारा से जोड़ना है। इस दिशा में राज्य के कौशल, रोजगार, उद्यमिता और नवाचार विभाग ने तीन प्रमुख सामाजिक संस्थाओं के साथ समझौता ज्ञापन (MoU) पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं।

इस परियोजना के तहत अगले चार वर्षों में महाराष्ट्र के मुंबई, पुणे, नागपुर, नासिक और अमरावती जैसे प्रमुख क्षेत्रों से 9,750 युवाओं को चरणबद्ध तरीके से प्रशिक्षित किया जाएगा। देआसरा फाउंडेशन और महाराष्ट्र इनोवेशन सोसायटी के साथ हुए समझौते के अंतर्गत राज्य में 5,000 सूक्ष्म और लघु उद्यमियों को व्यवसायिक प्रशिक्षण और मार्गदर्शन प्रदान किया जाएगा। इसका उद्देश्य स्थानीय स्तर पर रोजगार निर्माण और उद्यमशीलता को बढ़ावा देना है।

दिव्यांगजनों के लिए समावेशी कार्यक्रम

प्रोजेक्ट मुंबई संस्था के सहयोग से दिव्यांग छात्रों के लिए विशेष समावेशी पाठ्यक्रम तैयार किए जाएंगे। इसमें सांकेतिक भाषा में कोर्स, प्रशिक्षकों का प्रशिक्षण और ऑन-द-जॉब ट्रेनिंग की व्यवस्था की जाएगी, जिससे दिव्यांग छात्र भी तकनीकी शिक्षा में आत्मनिर्भर बन सकें। राज्य सरकार की यह पहल न केवल युवाओं को नई तकनीकों से लैस करेगी, बल्कि उन्हें आत्मनिर्भर और रोजगारक्षम बनाने की दिशा में एक बड़ा कदम भी साबित होगी।

‘Licence Must Be Suspended’: Supreme Court Issues Strict Guidelines on Child Trafficking

The Supreme Court of India came down heavily on the Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday. The rebuke expressed deep concern over the handling of child trafficking cases in the state. The court further issued a set of stringent guidelines aimed at curbing such crimes across India.

The Supreme Court bench consisting of Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan emphasised the urgency of fast-tracking such cases. They also directed lower courts to complete trials within six months. “High Courts across the country are directed to call for the status of pending trials in child trafficking cases. Then directions shall be issued to complete the trial in 6 months and also conduct a day-to-day trial,” the top court stated.

Hospitals Face Licence Suspension Over Missing Newborns

Taking a firm stand on hospital accountability, the court stated that any medical institution from which a newborn is trafficked must immediately have its licence suspended.

“If any newborn is trafficked from a hospital, the first step should be to suspend the licence of such hospitals. If any lady comes to deliver a child to the hospital and the baby is stolen, the first step is suspension of the licence,” Justice Pardiwala said.

A petition challenging anticipatory bail

The supreme court bench was hearing a petition challenging anticipatory bail to the accused in a child trafficking case from Uttar Pradesh. The bench came down heavily on the Allahabad High Court. The bench said the bail applications were “callously” dealt with and many accused are missing now. The apex court termed it as a careless approach in granting bail.

Callous Handling of Bail Applications Criticised

“These accused pose a serious threat to society. The least required of the high court while granting bail was to impose a condition to mark attendance at a police station every week. This police lost track of all the accused persons,” it said.

Justice Pardiwala said the bench was “thoroughly disappointed” with how the Uttar Pradesh government handled the matter. “…no appeal was made… no seriousness was shown… It appears the accused was longing for a son and then got a son for 4 lakh rupees. If you desire a son, you cannot go for a trafficked child. He knew the baby was stolen,” he said.

Accused Ordered to Surrender, Trials to Be Expedited

The Supreme court directed all accused in the case to surrender immediately and be sent to judicial custody. Meanwhile the trial courts were ordered to frame charges within a week. The bench also stated that if any accused are found absconding, non-bailable warrants are to be issued against them.

“Charges shall be framed within one week. If it’s informed that some accused have absconded, the trial court will issue non-bailable warrants. Trial of those present shall go on and not be delayed,” the bench ruled.

Strict Warning to States on Implementation

Justice Pardiwala emphasised that the judgment includes detailed recommendations to curb child trafficking. It also expects state governments to implement them at the earliest.

“High Courts across the country are directed to call for the status of pending trials in child trafficking cases… Any laxity shown in implementing the directions would be taken seriously and be treated as contempt,” the court said.

Emotional Appeal to Parents

In a powerful observation, Justice Pardiwala highlighted the emotional trauma the parents of the child go through when a child is lost to trafficking. “The pain and agony a parent faces when a child dies is different from when a child is lost to gangs of trafficking… when the child dies, the child is with the Almighty, but when lost, they are at the mercy of such gangs,” he said.

According to reports, child trafficking and forced child labour thrives in India despite strict laws. Latest data confirms that around 36,000 children still remain untraceable since 2020.

India’s third-largest two-wheeler company TVS Motor Company is a reputed two and three-wheeler manufacturer globally operating in across 80 countries. TVS has been championing progress through Sustainable Mobility with four state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Hosur, Mysuru and Nalagarh in India and Karawang in Indonesia.

TVS Motor Company is the First Indian two and three-wheeler maker to have become a signatory to the world’s largest sustainability initiative, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). This will ensure enhanced collaborations and actions towards wider development of goals, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

TVS Motor Company was honoured with The CSR Journal Excellence Awards 2023 for its water conservation initiatives in Tiruvannamalai.

CSR Spent FY 24

In the FY 2024, the company spent Rs 30 crore on CSR initiatives, which is slightly more than what it was obligated to spend as per the Company’s Act (Rs 26.39 cr). In FY 24, CSR of TVS Motor Company benefitted over 16 lakh people across 2500 villages, as mentioned in its Annual Report. In the said financial year, the company has formed over 5000 Self Help Groups (SHGs) with over 60,000 women, renovated over 980 Anganwadis, renovated over 830 schools and more than 130 health centres.

Srinivasan Services Trust (SST) Srinivasan Services Trust (SST), the social arm of TVS Motor Company and Sundaram-Clayton Limited started working in villages established in 1996. Starting with a model of philanthropy, it matured into a model centred on community participation in all its projects. Presently, SST works in 2500 villages across the country with 2,000 villages in Tamil Nadu. It follows a holistic and participatory approach of village development, working very closely with the community and the government.

SST’s focus is to bring about sustainable development in villages through Total Community Involvement. Society building through development of women and children, conservation of water, providing holistic health and education infrastructure by renovating the government infrastructure and preserving the environment are its main focus areas. SST works towards economic development of the community by helping them to set up microenterprises and supporting them to improve agriculture and livestock income.

SST’s holistic approach focuses on critical areas of Economic Development, Health, Education, Infrastructure, Environment and Social and Cultural Development in the villages. SST works with communities and governments to empower India’s rural poor through awareness, skills and training programs.

Over the last 27 years, SST, with the help of TVS Motor Company, has been actively facilitating sustainable and self-reliant development across 2,500 villages in India, bringing a paradigm of holistic and sustained socio-economic change at the grassroots level across India.

Over Rs 85 crore have been contributed by TVS Motor Company towards Covid- 19 relief.

An impact study carried out by Institute of Rural Management (IRMA), Anand has revealed that in the villages in Tiruvannamalai district, where SST has been working, shows an household income growth of about 141% in 5 years (2017-2022) as compared only to a 38% household income growth in neighbouring areas.

CSR for Water Conservation

Srinivasan Services Trust announced in March 2023 that it has over the last six years, invested over Rs 21 crores in water conservation efforts across villages of Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.

At least 350 desilting projects including desilting of tanks and irrigation channels have been undertaken by SST increasing the water storage availability by 160 crore litres (57 million cubic feet). Additionally, with active participation by the local communities and through their association with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), SST has implemented programmes in Javadhu Hills in Tiruvannamalai & Tirupathur districts and Thally in Krishnagiri district in which 19 check dams and 120 farm ponds have been created. In partnership with other organizations, SST has also implemented watershed programs in Tirunelveli and Tiruvannamalai districts of Tamil Nadu.

SST has also desilted 7 water bodies in Krishnagiri district inside the forests, with the support of the government, which has in turn increased water availability for wild animals. The Trust plans to invest over 10 crore rupees in the next three years for water conservation initiatives.

A study by the Centre for Water Resources (CWR), Anna University on 3 minor irrigation (MI) tanks in Krishnagiri, Tiruvannamalai and Tirunelveli districts revealed that partial desilting of water bodies has made the water available for more than one cropping season 79% of farmers adopted changes in the cropping pattern and cultivating more than one season. The underground water storage capacity has improved and there is an increase in water level in bore wells and open wells in the area.

CSR for Tiger Conservation

Srinivasan Services Trust announced in July 2023 that it has invested Rs 20 million (2 crore) in various conservation initiatives, including water conservation, forest equipment, transportation, and anti-poaching camps across six tiger reserves in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The trust is working to improve living conditions for staff members of the forest department and to construct anti-poaching camps equipped with solar power and drinking water facilities. SST’s tiger conservation programme aligns with their broader mission of developing tribal villages, for which the trust has invested over INR 250 million over the past 16 years.

In 2022, SST donated a minibus to the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve. Additionally, SST contributed to the Bandipur Tiger Reserve by donating two forest-road-friendly motorcycles and provided tractors for water transportation in Mudumalai (Tamil Nadu) and Bandhavgarh (Madhya Pradesh).

To boost conservation efforts, the trust also supplied high luminescent search lights and GPS devices to Mudumalai, Sathyamangalam, and Kalakkad-Mundanthurai tiger reserves in Tamil Nadu.

CSR for Eye Care

In observance of World Sight Day (12th October 2023), Srinivasan Services Trust took the initiative to honour hospitals engaged in the extensive eye care initiative. Over the past three years, SST has collaborated with eye hospitals and organised eye camps across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, reaching out to more than 60,000 individuals and SST’s collaborative efforts with various hospitals have resulted in more than 2,000 free cataract surgeries, as per an announcement.

CSR support to cyclone Michaung-affected areas

TVS Motor Company donated Rs 3 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund after the flooding and damage caused by Cyclone Michaung in Tamil Nadu in December 2023. The company also announced Rs 50 lakh towards disaster relief in Michaung-affected Andhra Pradesh.

“The floods have unleashed severe hardship on the community, and we would like to do our part to support the community. This will augment the tireless efforts of the government and the resilient people of Tamil Nadu to restore normalcy. In times of distress, corporate entities bear a collective responsibility to extend support and aid in the restoration of normalcy. Our contribution will support the efforts of the government in bringing succour to the affected communities in Andhra Pradesh,” Sudarshan Venu, Managing Director, TVS Motor Company shared in a statement.

TVS Motor also offered additional service support for its customers in the flood hit districts. India’s third-largest two-wheeler company announced additional service support for its customers in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry in the wake of the Michaung Cyclone. Dairy Livelihoods Empower Rural Women

For Manisha Gotiram Rikame of Chinchvali village, life once revolved around her husband’s uncertain agricultural income. That changed when she joined DFPCL’s dairy development initiative. With help to purchase cows, training in dairy practices, and feed support, Manisha now runs her own small-scale dairy business. “Earlier, I had no steady income of my own. Today, I can pay for my children’s education and contribute meaningfully to my family. I feel empowered,” she shared.

Reviving the Land, Reviving Hope

In Khairwadi, Kalibai and her husband Shravan Bhagat had almost given up on farming. Their land, once dry and unproductive, found new life through DFPCL’s wadi (orchard) development project. With technical support, they planted mango trees and expanded vegetable cultivation from 15R to 50R. “Selling my first mango harvest was emotional that land once felt like a burden, now it gives us hope,” said Kalibai.

Entrepreneurship Through Local Shops

Vasudha Vasant Pawar from Nitlas dreamt of starting a small business. With DFPCL’s help, she opened a local snack stall and received business training. The shop now supports her household and gives her a newfound identity. “I’m not just earning I’m standing on my own feet,” she said with pride.

Vashi Viral Video: नवी मुंबई के वाशी इलाके में एक इनोवा कार की डिक्की से किसी व्यक्ति का हाथ लटकता दिखा, तो इलाके में सनसनी फैल गई। वीडियो जैसे ही सोशल मीडिया पर वायरल हुआ, लोगों ने अंदाजा लगाया कि कार में कोई गंभीर अपराध हुआ है। देखते ही देखते वीडियो न सिर्फ लोकल व्हाट्सएप ग्रुप्स में फैला, बल्कि इंस्टाग्राम और ट्विटर पर भी चर्चाओं का विषय बन गया।

पुलिस ने लिया मामला संज्ञान में, देने जा रही नोटिस

हालांकि पुलिस इस तरह के वीडियो को हल्के में लेने के मूड में नहीं है। अफवाह फैलाने और पब्लिक में पैनिक क्रिएट करने को लेकर पुलिस संबंधित लोगों से बयान दर्ज कर रही है और जानकारी है कि उन्हें जल्द ही नोटिस दिया जाएगा। नवी मुंबई पुलिस का कहना है कि इस तरह की हरकतें सिर्फ भ्रम नहीं फैलातीं, बल्कि कानून-व्यवस्था के लिए भी खतरा बन सकती हैं। सोशल मीडिया के ज़रिए गलत सूचनाओं का प्रचार करना दंडनीय अपराध की श्रेणी में आता है।

Poila Boishakh: आज 15 अप्रैल को देशभर में बंगाली नववर्ष पोईला बैशाख का त्योहार मनाया जा रहा है। बंगाल में नया साल बैसाख के महीने में पहले दिन को मनाया जाता है, जिसे पोईला बैसाख या बंगाली में पोइला बोइशाख के नाम से जाना जाता है। पश्चिम बंगाल के अलावा यह त्रिपुरा, असम और बांग्ला देश में मनाया जाता है। प्राचीन बंगाल के राजा शशांक को बंगाली युग की शुरुआत करने का श्रेय दिया जाता है। बंगाल के राजा शशांक 7वीं शताब्दी में बंगाल क्षेत्र में एक स्वतंत्र और एकीकृत राजनीतिक साम्राज्य बनाने वाले पहले राजा थे, जिसे गौड़ साम्राज्य कहा जाता है। उन्हें बंगाली कैलेंडर का संस्थापक भी माना जाता है। उनकी राजधानी कर्णसुवर्ण थी, जो वर्तमान में पश्चिम बंगाल के मुर्शिदाबाद में स्थित है। बंगाली कैलेंडर भी हिन्दु कैलेंडर पर ही आधारित है। बंगाल में इस दिन से नया साल का प्रारंभ हो जाता है। ‘शुभो नोबो बोरसो’ का उत्सव मनाते हुए लोग एक दूसरे को नए साल की शुभकामनाएं देते हैं। ‘शुभो नोबो बोरसो’ का मतलब होता है नए साल की शुभकामनाएं! ऐसी मान्यता है कि बंगाल में वैशाख महीना बहुत शुभ माना जाता है, और इसे हर्ष उल्लास के साथ मानते है। बंगाल में जगह-जगह इस दिन मेले का आयोजन किया जाता है। अनेक प्रकार के शुभ काम जैसे कोई नया घर लेना, विवाह, मुंडन, इसी दिन करना अच्छा माना जाता है। PM Modi ने भी ‘X’ पर सभी देशवासियों को बंगाली नववर्ष की शुभकामना दी।

पोईला बैसाख कैसे मानते हैं

Poila Boishakh: पोईला बैसाख वाले दिन सभी बंगाली भाई-बंधु अपने-अपने घरों की साफ-सफाई करते है। सुबह जल्दी उठ जाते है और सूर्य देवता को प्रणाम करते है। साफ पानी से स्नान कर, नए कपड़े पहनते है, अपने घरों और मंदिरों को चाव से सजाते हैं। फिर जोरों शोरों से पूजा-आराधना की जाती है और विभिन्न तरह के पकवान बनाए जाते है। गौ माता की विधि-विधान से पूजा की जाती है। बंगाल के व्यापारी इसे व्यापारी खातों की शुरुआत भी मानते हैं और नए बही-खाते बनाते हैं। बंगाल मे नव वर्ष वाले दिन पुआल जलाया जाता है। कहा जाता है कि पुआल में सारे पाप और कष्ट जल कर समाप्त हो जाते हैं। बंगाली लोग इस दिन श्री गणेश और माता लक्ष्मी की उपासना करते है। पोईला बैसाख के दिन घरों में पारंपरिक व्यंजन बनाते है- जैसे प्याज, हरी मिर्च वाली हिल्सा मछली, जिसे ‘पांत-भात’ कहा जाता है। मिठाई के रूप मे ‘रोसोगुल्ला’ और अनेक प्रकार के छेने की मिठाइयां भी शामिल होती है। महिलाएं पीले रंग की साड़ी तथा पुरुष धोती कुर्ता पहनते हैं। भजन और कीर्तन भी किये जाते हैं। सभी मिलकर धरती पर सुखमय जीवन व खुशहाली की प्रार्थना करते है। बारिश अच्छी हो, इसके लिये बादलों की भी पूजा की जाती है।

Poila Boishakh का महत्व

Poila Boishakh: बंगाली पंचांग अनुसार पोइला बैशाख के दिन सभी बंगाली नए साल के नई बही खाते, किताबें और नया कैलेंडर ख़रीदते हैं, जिसके अंतर्गत बंगाली रीति-रिवाजों, अनुष्ठानों और त्योहारों के सभी वर्तमान अपडेट और शुभ तिथियां और अवसर शामिल हैं। इस अवसर पर, जब रिश्तेदारों का दौरा होता है, तो उन्हें बंगाली मिठाई या रसगुल्ला, मिष्टी दोई और सौंदेश जैसे मीठे-मीठे पकवानों को खिलाकर मुंह मीठा किया जाता है। शाम को सभी लोग अपने घरों पर मिठाई तैयार करते हैं या फिर मिठाई की दुकानों से खरीदारी की जाती है। यह बंगाली नव वर्ष का दिन होता है, इसलिए इस दिन पश्चिम बंगाल में आधिकारिक छुट्टी होती है।
इस दिन की शुरुआत रवींद्रनाथ टैगोर के संगीत गाते हुए करते हैं। इस दिन लाल किनारों के साथ सफेद साड़ी पहनकर महिलाएं और पारंपरिक धोती-कुर्ता पहने पुरुष नए साल के पहले दिन को चिह्नित करने के लिए एशो बैसाख गाते हैं। बांग्लादेश में बहुत बड़ी संख्या में बंगाली आबादी शामिल है और समान जातीयता को साझा करते हुए, पोइला बैसाख को पश्चिम बंगाल की तरह ही धूमधाम से मनाया जाता है। इस दिन को बंगाल में कई सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमों के साथ मनाया जाता है। यहां तक कि पश्चिम बंगाल की राज्य सरकार द्वारा जुलूस निकाले जाते हैं। इस दिन बच्चे और युवा, बुजुर्गों के पैर छूते हैं और आशीर्वाद मांगते हैं और साथ ही अपने रिश्तेदारों को मिठाई और अन्य उपहार देते हैं। नए कपड़े पहने जाते हैं, जो बिक्री से लाए जाते हैं, जो चोइत्रा के महीने में शुरू होता है, मतलब बंगाली कैलेंडर का जो आखिरी महीना होता है। इस दिन दुकानदारों और व्यापारियों द्वारा अपने स्टोरों और दुकानों पर भारी भीड़ खींचने की होड़ लगी होती है। Poila Boishakh: व्यापारियों द्वारा नए व्यापारिक वर्ष की शुरुआत भी पोइला बैसाख के दिन ही होती है। इस दिन व्यापारी अपने व्यापार कारोबार की पूजा करते हैं, दुकान में भगवान लक्ष्मी और गणेश जी की और बही खातों की पूजा करते है।बही खाते पर स्वस्तिक का शुभ चिह्न अंकित करते हैं, जिसे ‘हल खाता’ कहते हैं। सभी ग्राहकों को अपनी दुकानों या कार्यालयों में बुलाते हैं, मिठाईया बांटते हैं और एक दूसरे को शुभकामनाएं देते है।बंगाली ऐसा मानते हैं कि इस दिन घरों और व्यावसायिक स्थलों में माता लक्ष्मी की पूजा करने से पूरे साल घर में और व्यापार में धन की कमीं नहीं होती।

पोईला बैसाख का इतिहास

Poila Boishakh: इतिहास के अनुसार पोइला बैसाख से जुड़े सभी कार्यक्रम मुगल राजा अकबर के समय से प्रचलित हैं। कहा जाता है कि मुगलों के समयकाल में किसानों से कृषिकर एकत्रित करने के लिए हिजरी कैलेंडर का पालन किया गया था। हिजरी कैलेंडर, विशुद्ध रूप से चंद्र कैलेंडर होता है, जो चन्द्रमा की कलाओं से दिन तय करता है। लेकिन ये फसल के साथ मेल नहीं खाता था, जिससे किसानों को मुश्किल होती थी, क्योंकि उन्हें मौसम के विरुद्ध फसल देने पर मजबूर किया जाता था। बादशाह अकबर को अपने हिसाब से कर या राजस्व इकट्ठा करने के लिए दुविधा उठानी पड़ती थी, क्योंकि वह फसल कटाई के मौसम के हिसाब से मेल खाने वाला नहीं था। इस बात को ध्यान में रख कर मुगल सम्राट अकबर ने कैलेंडर में परेशानी सुधारने के लिए हिंदू विद्वानों को बुलाया। सबसे विचार करने के बाद यह फैसला लिया और आदेश दिया कि सौर प्रणाली पर आधारित एक हिंदू कैलेंडर तैयार किया जाए और यह गर्मियों के पहले दिन से उनकी शुरुआत हो। 1584 में नया कृषि वर्ष कैलेंडर प्रस्तुत किया गया, उसी के बाद से ही ‘बंगबाडो’ या बंगाली नव वर्ष का प्रारंभ हुआ।
बंगाली नव वर्ष के उत्सव का पता पुराने ढाका में महिफ़राश के बंगाली मुस्लिम मछुआरे समुदाय से लगाया जा सकता है । मुगल काल के दौरान, महिफ़राश, खेती की कटाई के मौसम की शुरुआत को चिह्नित करने के लिए अपने अज़ीमपुर मैदानों में दावतों और भोजों का आयोजन करने के लिए जाने जाते थे। यह दिन भर चलने वाला उत्सव उस चीज का अग्रदूत था जो बाद में पारंपरिक पोहेला बैशाख उत्सव के रूप में विकसित हुआ।

अतीत को छोड़ नए के स्वागत का दिन Poila Boishakh

इस दिन बंगाली, नया वर्ष या पोइला बैसाख के एक दिन पहले भगवान का आशीर्वाद लेने के लिए मंदिरों में जाते हैं, अपने परिवार और दोस्तों से मिलते हैं और साथ में समय बिताते हैं। पोहेला बैशाख को लंबे समय के बाद दोस्तों और परिवार को एकजुट करने के लिए भी जाना जाता है। यह एकता और पुनर्मिलन का समय है, और अतीत को पीछे छोड़ते हुए दोस्तों और परिवार के साथ सुखद समय बिताने का समय है। मान्यता के अनुसार चैत्र के आखिरी दिन जिसका कुछ भी बकाया हो, उसे पूरा करना जरूरी होता है, नहीं तो इसे अशुभ माना जाता है। उसके दूसरे दिन या नए साल के पहले दिन, मकान मालिक अपने किराएदारों को मिठाई के साथ मुंह मीठा करवाते हैं। नया वर्ष हर सभ्यता में शुभता का प्रतीक होता है। पोइला बैसाख भी बंगाली सभ्यता के नए शुरुआत को दर्शाता है।

DU College Principal Applies Cow Dung on Wall to Beat the Heat

The principal of Delhi University’s Lakshmibai College, Pratyush Vatsala, was seen applying cow dung on the walls of the classroom, calling it a ‘Desi’ solution to heat-related complaints. Her efforts were captured in a series of videos, which were shared by the principal herself on the college’s WhatsApp group for other faculty members. The images and videos circulating on the group show Vatsala, standing on a chair and applying cow dung to the walls of the classroom in C Block. She was assisted by other college staff.

While cow dung has been traditionally used in rural India to beat the heat. Its application in the urban educational institute has only raised curiosity amongst many.

Professor Pankaj Garg, the chairman of the Indian National Teachers Congress, told reporters that “Such approaches are taking us back in time instead of moving us forward.. Instead of addressing infrastructure issues on campus with practical solutions, we are resorting to activities that belong to the Stone Age. This is not right. We are about to enter the fourth year of the national education policy, yet there are still no concrete solutions on the table for how we are going to accommodate students in classrooms with such old infrastructure.”

The C block of the college has received complaints about its non-operational fans and other infrastructure problems. Although basic facilities are available inside the building, this new method of cow dung is getting mixed reactions from around the college. It is also one of the oldest buildings in the college.

Several other colleges under Delhi University are grappling with the same age, ageing infrastructure and rising pressure from students.

Kerala Education Minister Denounce NCERT’s Decision for Hindi Names of English Textbook

The Kerala education minister, V Sivakutty, said on Monday that the National Council of Educational Research and Training’s (NCERT) decision to give Hindi titles for English medium textbooks is irrational and calls for a review.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam  (DMK) Government in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu has been opposing the three-language policy in the New Education Policy 2020, viewing it as the imposition of Hindi inside the Southern states.

“The NCERT decision is against federal principles and the Constitutional values. It is not only a violation of common logic, but an incident of foisting one’s cultural values in such a manner sabotaging the linguistic diversity of our country,” said  Sivakutty, also a Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader. He also urged other non-Hindi-speaking states to stand united against this type of language imposition from the centre.

According to the new move of the NCERT, the English textbook of class six, which was previously called ‘Honeysuckle’, will now be titled ‘Poorvi’, a Hindi word that translates to ‘Eastern’ and is also the name of a Raag in Hindustani classical music. Other changes include the name change of the class one English textbook to Mridang and the class three textbook to Santoor.
