Trump’s UAE Visit Ends with Traditional Hair-Flipping Dance That Sparks Online Buzz

Wrapping up his multi-nation tour of the Middle East, U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and was welcomed with a visually dramatic cultural performance at Abu Dhabi’s Qasr Al Watan palace. The event, now the center of online discussion, featured a centuries-old traditional dance involving synchronised hair movements by female performers.

Dressed in flowing white gowns, the women stood in formation, tossing their long hair side to side in rhythm with drumbeats and poetic chants. Behind them, male performers beat large drums and waved thin sticks resembling swords, completing the ceremonial display. The performance, part of the Al-Ayyala tradition, caught the internet’s attention and quickly went viral, prompting millions of views and varied reactions.

The dance, deeply rooted in UAE and Omani heritage, is recognised by UNESCO as an intangible cultural asset. Traditionally performed during weddings and national festivities, Al-Ayyala enacts a mock battle scene, symbolizing unity, strength, and heritage. Typically, men face each other in two rows with bamboo sticks, while women, particularly in the UAE, join by flipping their hair to the rhythm. The tradition includes performers of all ages and backgrounds, often led by a senior member responsible for passing down the art form.

Trump’s Expressionless Reaction to Dance Goes Viral

Trump, walking between the performers, appeared expressionless in the viral clip, which was posted online by White House aide Margo Martin. As of now, the video has crossed 5 million views on platform X (formerly Twitter), where users reacted with everything from cultural curiosity to humorous confusion. Some comments criticised the unusual welcome, while others called for cultural respect and open-mindedness.

This marked the final stop of Trump’s Gulf tour, which also included highly publicised visits to Saudi Arabia and Qatar earlier in the week. In Riyadh, he was honored with a horse escort and a jet flyover, while in Doha, his motorcade was flanked by camels and futuristic red Cybertrucks. The UAE event added another unique moment to a tour already full of viral spectacles.

While the dance performance made headlines, Trump’s visit also had significant diplomatic implications. He announced $200 billion in deals with the UAE, with promises of increased cooperation in fields like artificial intelligence. According to reports, his overall tour secured over $1 trillion in investment pledges from Gulf states, aimed at bolstering U.S. economic interests in the region.

Despite the light-hearted social media attention around the welcome ceremony, cultural experts stress the importance of Al-Ayyala as a symbol of national identity and resilience in the region. What may appear unusual to some, they argue, reflects generations of preserved tradition and collective memory.

Rape Accused Proposes Victim in Courtroom, Supreme Court Suspends his Sentence

In an extraordinary turn of events, an unusual scene unfolded inside the Supreme Court on Thursday. This comes after a man, convicted of rape and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment agreed to marry the victim. The couple allegedly exchanged flowers with each other after expressing the willingness to marry each other.

According to reports, the couple was asked to exchange the garlands by justices BV Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma. The accused first proposed to the survivor in the courtroom. The two then gave flowers to each other amid applause from the family members and attendees present in the courtroom.

The Judgement

“They (rape accused and victim) are willing to marry each other. The details of the marriage shall be worked out by the respective parents. We hope that the marriage takes place as expeditiously as possible. In such circumstances, we suspend the sentence and release the petitioner…today the petitioner appeared before this court pursuant a direction dated 6/5/2025. He shall return to jail and will be produced before the concerned sessions court as early as possible.”

Court Facilitates Marriage Proposal

The bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justices BV Nagarathna and Satish Chandra Sharma facilitated the interaction between the couple. During a chamber meeting in the pre-lunch session, both parties and their families were present. The Court noted that both the man and the woman had “unequivocally expressed” their willingness to marry each other.

“We passed over the matter so as to enable the parties to have a dialogue and inform the court as to whether they are inclined to get engaged and be married to each other. In the post-lunch session, the matter was again called in the court hall. The petitioner and respondent No.2 have unequivocally stated before us that they are willing to marry each other,” it said.

The SC order said, “Having regard to the sensitivity of the matter, we directed the parties as well as their parents along with their respective learned counsel and learned standing counsel for the State of Madhya Pradesh to appear before us in chamber. They appeared before us in the chamber in the pre-lunch session. We heard them.”

Later, in the courtroom, the justices asked the man to formally propose to the woman and directed them to exchange flowers in a symbolic gesture of commitment to marriage.

Sentence Suspended, Bail Granted

Following the man’s decision to marry, the Supreme Court suspended his prison sentence. The sentence was handed down by a trial court in September 2024 and upheld by the Madhya Pradesh High Court. The Court ordered that the man return to custody briefly before being produced before the concerned Sessions Court. The court further instructed to release him on bail subject to appropriate conditions.

Background of the Case

According to reports, the case dates back to 2021. The woman filed an FIR alleging that the man had repeatedly raped her between 2016 and 2021 under a false promise of marriage. The two had met on Facebook. The woman was a friend of the accused’s sister. Over time, they developed a relationship that became physical. The woman alleged that the man assured her each time that marriage would follow.

However, when she eventually insisted on marriage, the man reportedly declined, citing his mother’s disapproval. She then filed a police complaint, leading to the trial.

Trial and Appeal

Following the FIR, a trial court convicted the man under Section 376(2)(n) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for repeated rape and Section 417 for cheating. He was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and an additional 2 years for fraud.

After the Madhya Pradesh High Court rejected his plea under Section 389(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) seeking suspension of sentence, the man appealed to the Supreme Court.

Next Hearing Scheduled

As of now, the matter has been adjourned to July 25, 2025, and will be treated as part-heard. The Court emphasised that the bail is contingent upon the Sessions Court’s discretion and that the marriage should proceed as soon as possible. Advocate Nikhil Jain appeared for the victim during the proceedings before the Supreme Court.

Covid-19 Fresh Wave, Positive Cases Going Up in Hong Kong and Singapore

Wear a mask to prevent Covid - 19

In a concerning development, there has been a significant surge in the number of cases of Covid-19 across Southeast Asia’s biggest cities, Hong Kong and Singapore. Warning has been issued by health officials in Hong Kong and Singapore about a sudden rise in Covid-19 cases as a new wave spreads across parts of Asia.

Covid-19 cases in Hong Kong “Quite High”

Albert Au, the head of the Communicable Disease Branch at Hong Kong’s Centre for Health Protection, told local media that Covid-19 activity in the city is now “quite high”. The number of respiratory samples that proved positive for Covid-19 was at its peak since last year. Severe cases and death count reached their peak level, with 31 severe cases noted in the week up to May 3.

While the current surge hasn’t yet reached the peak levels which were seen in the past two years, growing viral loads in sewage, alongside a rise in Covid-related doctor visits and hospital admissions, indicate active community transmission in Hong Kong, which has over 7 million residents.

As a preventive measure, authorities have urged people to get their vaccination boosters, especially for the children and the elderly who are more vulnerable.

Covid-19 alert in Singapore and Thailand

Singapore is also on Covid alert. Singapore’s health ministry released its first update on infection numbers in almost a year this month. The estimated number of cases jumped 28% to 14,200 in the first week of May as compared to the previous seven days while daily hospitalisation rose around 30%.

Even in Thailand, the health department has reported two cluster outbreaks this year, with cases rising after April’s annual Songkran festival, which witnesses a lot of crowd.

There have also been reports of waves of the now-endemic disease swelling periodically, with officials constantly urging people to keep their vaccinations updated, most specifically high-risk individuals like children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.

Why sudden surge in cases

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), COVID-19 numbers spike mostly during the summer season, unlike other respiratory pathogens that tend to be more active during colder months. In case of Covid-19, the test positivity rates get more than double among patients who seek a diagnosis at hospitals.

Experts are of the opinion that declining immunity can be one of the reasons why there is a sudden surge in the number of cases.

RTI answer after 6 years: बाप रे! 30 दिन में मिलने वाला RTI का जवाब 6 साल 7 महीने बाद मिला!

RTI answer after 6 years: RTI

No Accountability in RTI System:

Right to Information Act in India RTI System Failure in India

Delhi-NCR Covered With Thick Dust, Not Dust Storm: IMD

Dust

Delhi NCR was covered with thick haze on Thursday after sudden winds and dust storms were witnessed in the capital city on Wednesday night. As a result, visibility was also plunged at many locations within Delhi, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The sudden winds of 30 to 40 km/h over the Palam area swept fine dust particles into the lower atmosphere. The capital city already has a lot of construction sites that add to its atmospheric dust pollution. A senior IMD official also stated that visibility fell from 4,500 m to 1,200 m in just two hours from 10 PM to 11:30 PM on Wednesday night.

Despite the sudden drop in visibility and heavy suspended dust present in the atmosphere, the IMD officials clarified that this phenomenon cannot be termed as a dust storm. According to IMD’s forecast, a light dust storm requires wind gusts up to 40 kmph and visibility below 1000m. Whereas, in Delhi’s case, even when the wind speed briefly repeated and visibility also dropped, it did not reach the set criteria for a desktop.

A similar dust storm was reported in mid-April, when flights were diverted and the city remained under red alert. An intense pre-monsoon storm was also observed on May 2, which fell several trees in the region and caused severe damage.

Episodic Winds

According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, the air-quality index (AQI) at 8 AM was 236 or in the poor category, in Delhi. The AQI clocked at 292 on Thursday when the Commission of Air Quality Management in NCR and adjoining areas (CAQM) said that it “took stock of the current air quality scenario and noted that owing to events of dust from the Western region of the country, the concentration of PM 2.5 and PM 10 have increase significantly which has caused AQI to exhibit sharp increasing 10…The subcommittee attributes the sudden and sharp deviation in AQI to long-range transport of dust caused by substantial wind speed, which is purely episodic in nature.”

After Op Sindoor, India’s Military Gets ₹50,000 Crore Budget Boost

Defence India

India’s defence sector is to get a record-breaking financial boost, with government sources confirming an additional Rs 50,000 crore allocation in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor. This supplementary funding, expected to be approved in the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament, will take the total defence outlay for 2025-26 beyond Rs 7 lakh crore, marking a new milestone in the country’s military preparedness.

The Union Budget for 2025-26 had already earmarked a historic Rs 6.81 lakh crore for the armed forces, reflecting a 9.2 per cent increase over the previous year’s Rs 6.22 lakh crore. Now, with the proposed supplementary budget, the defence allocation will see its highest-ever jump, making up about 13 per cent of the national budget and cementing its place as the largest allocation among all ministries.

This extraordinary increase comes in direct response to the recent security situation along the western border. Operation Sindoor, launched in retaliation for the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, saw the Indian Armed Forces conduct precision strikes against nine terror infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir, without crossing the Line of Control or international boundary. The operation was notable not only for its effectiveness but also for its symbolism, being named as a tribute to the widows of the victims, and for the seamless coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Defence Modernisation

Operation Sindoor showcased the Indian military’s growing technological prowess and self-reliance. Indigenous systems like the Akash missile defence system, along with the Russian S-400 ‘Triumf’ and Barak-8 medium-range SAMs, played a decisive role in neutralising incoming drones and missiles from across the border. The Indian Air Force also demonstrated its edge by bypassing and jamming advanced foreign-supplied air defence systems. Advanced weaponry, including SCALP cruise missiles and loitering munitions, enabled high-precision strikes with minimal collateral damage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address following the operation, highlighted that the credibility of ‘Made-in-India’ weapons had been firmly established, and the world now recognised India’s capability to deploy indigenous defence equipment in modern warfare. The successful integration of advanced air defence and electronic warfare systems during Operation Sindoor drew comparisons to Israel’s Iron Dome, further enhancing India’s reputation on the global stage.

The new Rs 50,000 crore budgetary push will be directed towards strengthening key areas such as research and development, procurement of advanced weaponry, ammunition, and essential military equipment. It will also support the continued development and deployment of indigenous technologies, ensuring that India maintains a technological edge in the face of evolving security threats.

Since 2014, the NDA government has made defence modernisation a central focus, nearly tripling the defence budget from Rs 2.29 lakh crore in 2014-15 to this year’s Rs 6.81 lakh crore, even before the supplementary increase. This sustained commitment reflects the government’s resolve to respond robustly to asymmetric threats and protect both military personnel and civilians.

In summary, the proposed Rs 50,000 crore defence budget boost post-Operation Sindoor signals a new era for India’s armed forces-one marked by enhanced capability, greater self-reliance, and a clear message of deterrence to adversaries. The move is expected to further strengthen national security, accelerate indigenous defence production, and ensure that India remains prepared for any future challenges.

DTC to Integrate All Buses under Single Bus Management System

DTC Buses

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has asked its managers to ensure that all buses in the fleet are integrated into a single Bus Management system (BMS) dashboard, monitored through a control and command centre on a real-time basis. This is done to ensure the safety of passengers,  avoid accidents and stop drivers from speeding..

The BMS initiative was introduced last year by the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) transport Minister Kailash Gehlot for monitoring buses by the use of GPS data. The initiative was an effort towards stopping drivers of DTC buses from speeding, jumping red lights, and not stopping at designated bus stops.

“The object of the BMS dashboard was to compare the performance of depot using key performance indicators and to take corrective measures for any underperforming depot ,” said an official

Buses of Delhi

Around 80 TATA buses had to be integrated with the BMS. The strategic business unit has been instructed to issue necessary directions to the Tata group to immediately share details of their buses with the BMS vendor and ensure that the integration is completed without any delay. Alongside, depot managers are also directed to verify the functioning of the intelligent transport system (ITS) devices on the buses.

There are a total of 2,152 electric buses in Delhi, out of which 1,752 buses are run by DTC and 400 are run under the DIMTS cluster scheme.

Uttar Pradesh: Ex-Army Man Murdered, Body Chopped Into 6 Pieces By Wife & Lover

A very shocking case of alleged murder has come to light from Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district. A 62-year-old retired Army soldier, Devendra Kumar was murdered brutally by his wife and her lover. His wife, Maya Devi, a 50-year-old woman, has been arrested along with her 44-year-old lover, Anil Yadav. Along with two other associates of Anil Yadav for the brutal killing of Devendra Kumar, a retired Army soldier.

According to a Police report, the accused allegedly murdered Kumar. They dismembered his body by chopping it into six pieces. The group then disposed of the chopped pieces at various locations along a riverbank in an attempt to conceal the crime.

Victim’s body parts discovered

However, the gruesome crime could not be hidden for long. The incident came to light on Saturday when police recovered the chopped body parts in the area. Severed hands and legs wrapped in polythene near Khareed village were found by the police. Following the initial investigation, the victim was identified as Devendra Kumar.

Upon revelation the victim’s wife Maya Devi was questioned by the police. However, she attempted to mislead the police by filing a missing person’s report on May 10th. She claimed that her husband had gone to pick up their daughter. She alleged that he went to a railway station in Bihar and never returned.

The police investigation of the matter soon took a dramatic turn. This comes as the couple’s daughter, Ambli Gautam, bravely testified against her mother. Ambli accused her mother of her father’s murder. Based on her crucial testimony, Maya Devi was booked for murder and taken into custody.

Lover and Accomplices Apprehended, Weapon Recovered

Soon the Police began a full fledged investigation into the matter revealing that Maya Devi allegedly conspired with her lover. Her lover, Anil Yadav reportedly is a truck driver. Along with them, two other men, identified as Satish Yadav and Mithilesh Patel were involved in carrying out the heinous crime.

Furthermore, the Police stated that the group allegedly murdered Devendra Kumar inside his residence in Bahadurpur. The group dismembered his body into six parts, including severing the arms, legs, and head. The body parts were then scattered in different locations to hinder identification and mislead the Police.

Victim’s torso found in well

According to the information given by Maya Devi, police recovered the victim’s torso from a well in Khareed Darauli village. During a vehicle check, police apprehended Anil Yadav and Satish Yadav near Town Polytechnic on Tuesday. However, during the arrest the accused allegedly fired at the police team. This led to a retaliatory firing in which Anil Yadav sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. He is currently receiving treatment at a government hospital in the city.

Following this, the Police recovered a country-made pistol, a spent cartridge, and a live round from Anil Yadav. The alleged murder weapon was recovered from the accused Satish Yadav. Mithilesh Patel had been arrested the previous day.

Extramarital Affair Motive Suspected

Omveer Singh, the Superintendent of Police told reporters that the motive behind the murder appears to be Maya Devi’s extramarital affair with Anil Yadav.

SP Omvir Singh said, “On May 10, a woman filed a missing person report, claiming her husband had gone to Buxar to pick up their daughter but never returned. However, an investigation revealed that the husband’s phone location never left the original area and was never traced to Buxar.”

He further said, “As the investigation progressed, it was found that the woman was allegedly involved in an extramarital affair, and the murder was carried out in collaboration with her partner and accomplices. A total of four individuals, including the wife, have been arrested.”

“The victim was brutally murdered, dismembered into six pieces, and the body parts were scattered across different locations. The head has not yet been recovered, and search efforts are still underway,” Omvir Singh said.

Series of Similar Brutal Crimes in Uttar Pradesh

Well, this is not a new such incident, this disturbing incident is the latest in a series of similarly brutal spousal murders that have occurred in Uttar Pradesh in recent months. These incidents are raising serious concerns about the increasing trend of such violent crimes in the state. These include cases in Meerut, Deoria, and Auraiya, where individuals were allegedly murdered and their bodies disposed of in gruesome ways by their spouses and their lovers.

As of now, all four accused individuals are currently in police custody, and a thorough investigation is underway. Furthermore, the police divers are continuing their search in the Ghaghara river to locate the victim’s missing head.

Mother’s Cremation Delayed as Son Demands Mother’s Jewellery at Pyre

A funeral in Rajasthan turned chaotic when a man halted his own mother’s cremation by dramatically lying on the funeral pyre and demanding her silver ornaments. The incident, which occurred in Leela Ka Bas ki Dhani village of the Kotputli-Behror district and Viratnagar area of Jaipur Rural, has gone viral on social media after video footage of the disruption surfaced online.

The deceased, identified as 80-year-old Bhuri Devi (also referred to as Chheeter Reger in local accounts), passed away on May 3. Her final rites were delayed for nearly two hours due to a family conflict that erupted at the cremation ground.

After performing the rituals at home, the family removed her jewellery, including silver bangles, and entrusted them to her eldest son, Girdhari Lal, who was known to have cared for her during her later years. This act reportedly triggered outrage from her fifth son, Omprakash, who has long lived separately from the rest of the family.

Local Recalls the Unexpected Incident

Eyewitnesses and local villagers stated that Omprakash initially participated in the funeral procession and helped carry the bier. However, upon reaching the cremation site, tensions flared. As preparations for the pyre began, Omprakash unexpectedly climbed onto the wooden logs and refused to allow the cremation to proceed until he received his mother’s silver ornaments.

Despite numerous attempts by family members and villagers to persuade him to step aside, Omprakash remained unmoved. At one point, he allegedly threatened to set himself ablaze if his demand was not fulfilled. Even after being physically removed from the pyre, he continued his protest by sitting beside it, delaying the proceedings.

Ultimately, the situation de-escalated only after the jewellery was handed over to him at the cremation ground. With the ornaments in his possession, Omprakash agreed to vacate the area, allowing the funeral to continue. The rites, initially planned for midday, resumed after a two-hour delay.

Video of the Situation went Viral Online

Locals revealed that a long-standing dispute over property had created friction between Omprakash and his siblings. According to village residents, such disagreements have isolated him from the family for years. While the footage of the confrontation has widely circulated online, police officials confirmed that no official complaint has been registered.

The incident has sparked widespread debate on social media, drawing attention to strained family dynamics and the lengths to which disputes over inheritance can escalate, even in moments of mourning.
