India’s First Hydrogen-Powered Truck Launched by Adani Group for Mining Operations

In a major step toward decarbonising industrial transportation, Adani Enterprises Ltd, the primary arm of the Adani Group, has introduced India’s first hydrogen fuel cell-powered truck. This pioneering vehicle, which marks a significant milestone in India’s clean energy transition, will support the company’s mining logistics, with the initial deployment at the Gare Pelma III coal mine in Chhattisgarh.

The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, officially inaugurated the hydrogen-powered truck in Raipur. This truck will facilitate coal transport between the Gare Pelma III Block and the state’s power plant. Applauding the initiative, he emphasised the state’s leadership in sustainable development and responsible energy practices, stating, “Chhattisgarh not only supports the nation’s power needs but also sets new benchmarks in sustainability.”

Each truck in this new fleet is fitted with three hydrogen tanks and is capable of carrying loads up to 40 tons over a distance of 200 kilometers. The trucks operate on hydrogen fuel cells, which emit only water vapour and warm air, offering a quieter and cleaner alternative to traditional diesel vehicles. This effort aims to phase out diesel-run trucks in favor of environmentally friendly alternatives.

The project is a collaborative undertaking by Adani Natural Resources (ANR) and Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL), both entities under Adani Enterprises. In a significant development, India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire, ending weeks of escalating tensions. The breakthrough came after intensive negotiations mediated by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who announced the agreement following a “long night of talks”. The ceasefire is about to begin from 5 pm on May 10, 2025.

The ceasefire was prompted by a series of military strikes, including India’s Operation Sindoor, which targetted what it described as terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Addressing the media, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, however, said the ceasefire was worked out directly between the two countries and did not mention any US mediation efforts. The next talks with Pakistan will happen on May 12.

“Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) called the Indian DGMO this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 5 pm,” Misri said.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the government had always strived for “peace and security” in the region.

“Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Dar tweeted.

Key JeM and Lashkar Leaders, Including Masood Azhar’s Kin, Killed in Op Sindoor

In the early hours of May 7, around 1:30 am, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, a high-precision retaliatory strike targetting nine terror hubs spread across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These strikes were conducted in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. Government sources confirmed the use of advanced missile systems with specialized warheads to maximize impact and accuracy.

Of the nine locations struck, five were situated in PoK including two each in Muzaffarabad and Kotli, and one in Bhimber. The remaining four were within Pakistan’s borders: two in Sialkot, one in Muridke, and another in Bahawalpur. This approach marked a tactical escalation from the 2019 Balakot strike, where only one site was targetted.

One of the major sites hit was Markaz Taiba in Muridke near Lahore, Lashkar-e-Taiba’s main base where 26/11 attacker Ajmal Kasab and Lashkar associate David Headley were once trained. Another was Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, a key hub for Jaish-e-Mohammed’s ideological and recruitment activities. Other impacted sites included Sarjal and Mehmona Joya in Sialkot, Gulpur and Abbas in Kotli, Syedna Bilal and Sawai Nala in Muzaffarabad, and the town of Bhimber.

Lashkar Commander Abu Jundal Killed, Honoured by Pakistani Army

The strikes successfully eliminated several high-profile militants closely tied to LeT and JeM. Among them was Mudassar Khadian Khas, also known as Abu Jundal. A senior Lashkar operative, he ran the Muridke headquarters and played a central role in operations. Pakistani military honored his death with a guard of honour, and wreaths were laid on behalf of Army Chief General Asim Munir and Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz. His funeral was conducted at a government school, led by designated global terrorist Hafiz Abdul Rauf, and was attended by a serving Lieutenant General and the Punjab Police Inspector General.

Khalid, also known by his alias Abu Akasha, was another Lashkar-e-Taiba commander killed in the operation. Actively involved in orchestrating attacks in Jammu & Kashmir, he was also engaged in arms trafficking from Afghanistan. His funeral in Faisalabad reportedly saw the presence of senior local government officials, including the district’s Deputy Commissioner.

The Indian strike also eliminated two brothers-in-law of Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar. Hafiz Muhammed Jameel, a senior figure in JeM and head of Markaz Subhan Allah, played a crucial role in the radicalisation and fundraising wing of the outfit. Known for shaping the ideological foundation of young recruits, Jameel was considered a major ideological driver behind JeM’s expansion.

IC-814 Hijack Accused Mohammad Yusuf Azhar Killed in Strike

Also killed was Mohammad Yusuf Azhar, widely recognised by aliases such as Ustad Ji, Ghosi Sahab, and Mohd Salim. A veteran in the ranks of JeM, he was responsible for arms training and coordinated multiple attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Notably, he was a key accused in the IC-814 Indian Airlines hijacking of 1999, which resulted in the controversial release of Masood Azhar.

Another key target neutralized was Mohammad Hassan Khan, a Jaish operative and son of Mufti Asghar Khan Kashmiri, JeM’s operational commander in PoK. Hassan Khan had played a central role in planning and executing terror strikes in Indian-administered Jammu & Kashmir.

Operation Sindoor marks a significant shift in India’s counter-terror doctrine targetting not just infrastructure but also leadership figures. Unlike previous limited air responses, this operation extended deep into Pakistan’s territory, disrupting terror planning and recruitment at multiple strategic levels. With the elimination of top-level operatives, security analysts expect a substantial disruption to the operational capabilities of both LeT and JeM.

The Chief Minister emphasized that verification of documents and land ownership must be mandatory before registration, as this would help reduce land disputes. He also stressed the need to simplify the registration process and make maximum use of technology to save both time and resources.

Women to get benefit

Women in Uttar Pradesh are set to benefit from a major policy change, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath proposing a significant hike in the stamp duty concession limit. As currently, women receive a 1% discount on stamp duty for property registrations up to Rs 10 lakh. The Chief Minister has directed officials to extend this benefit for registrations up to Rs 1 crore, aiming to strengthen women’s participation in the economy and make property ownership more accessible.

Furthermore, emphasizing the importance of minimizing land disputes, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure mandatory verification of all documents and land ownership details before registration. He added that simplifying procedures and leveraging technology will make the registration process quicker and more efficient, saving time and effort for citizens.

Stamp duty revenue tripled

The meeting revealed that stamp duty revenue in Uttar Pradesh has tripled over the last eight years, from Rs 11,000 crore in 2016–17 to over Rs 30,000 crore in 2024–25. The department also registered a year-on-year increase of 11.67% in 2024–25. Circle rates have already been revised in 45 districts, and the process is ongoing in the remaining 30.

CM Yogi also announced that the maximum fee for dividing and registering ancestral property among family members should be capped at Rs 5,000. This would apply to property divisions involving a living person and their three preceding generations. The move aims to reduce legal friction within families and offer a more affordable resolution to inheritance issues.

Staff and timely completion

Further, he instructed officials to improve infrastructure at registry offices, ensure sufficient staff, and maintain operational CCTV cameras at all times. He emphasized timely completion of construction work with proper quality control.

The department has already made significant strides in digitization. Citizens can now access services like online stamp creation, property clearance certificates, e-filing of agricultural mortgage deeds, online payment of registration fees, and marriage registration through DigiLocker. In response, the Chief Minister directed that all public-facing services be made fully online to reduce the need for in-person visits to government offices.
