CSR News: Salaam Bombay Foundation’s Dolphin Tanki 4.0 Empowers Young Entrepreneurs from Urban and Rural India with Seed Funding and Mentorship

12 Gold Winner & Silver Winner
Entrepreneurship is often associated with boardrooms, venture capital, and metropolitan start-up hubs. However, Dolphin Tanki 4.0, an initiative by Salaam Bombay Foundation, is proving that young grassroots entrepreneurs from under-resourced communities, both urban and rural, are just as capable of building sustainable businesses when given the right tools, mentorship, and funding. Since its inception, Salaam Bombay Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Incubator has helped launch over 550 businesses, 70% of which are led by women.
Held at the School of Business Management, NMIMS Mumbai, the event saw twelve gold winners securing ₹50,000 to ₹60,000 and eight silver winners receiving ₹25,000 to ₹30,000, providing these young entrepreneurs with a crucial boost to establish and scale their ventures. For the first time, Dolphin Tanki welcomed entrepreneurs from rural India, further demonstrating that talent and innovation are not limited by geography.
Now in its fourth year, Dolphin Tanki is a seed-funding platform designed exclusively for entrepreneurs from Salaam Bombay Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Incubator. These young entrepreneurs presented their business pitches to a panel of business leaders and industry experts, competing for seed capital to turn small-scale businesses into scalable ventures.
Salaam Bombay Foundation works with adolescents from under-resourced communities to equip them with 21st-century skills that bridge the gap between education and financial independence. Through hands-on training in arts, media, sports, and vocational education, students develop the skills necessary to earn a livelihood. Those demonstrating entrepreneurial potential are inducted into the Entrepreneurship Incubator, where they receive structured mentorship, access to markets, and a customised starter kit containing essential tools for their trade, whether beauty products, mobile repair kits, or baking essentials.
Dolphin Tanki is the next step in this journey, offering a real-world investment opportunity where these entrepreneurs gain financial literacy, pricing strategies, branding expertise, and market insights that allow them to develop sustainable businesses.
The School of Business Management at NMIMS Mumbai provides training support for Dolphin Tanki. Over three weeks leading up to the event, MBA students mentor the young entrepreneurs, guiding them through business fundamentals, financial structuring, customer engagement, and strategic growth. This collaboration allows both groups to gain valuable insights, with business students gaining exposure to social entrepreneurship, while the young entrepreneurs receive structured business acumen from emerging industry leaders. NMIMS Mumbai also provided the venue for the event.
Speaking about the event, Dr. Meena Galliara, Director, Jasani Center for Social Entrepreneurship & Sustainability Management, SBM, NMIMS, said, “Dolphin Tanki is not just a competition, it is a movement towards making entrepreneurship inclusive. This event provides young entrepreneurs from resource-poor communities the opportunity to launch and scale their businesses. With ingenuity and the right support, these start-ups can become engines of progress, lifting themselves and their communities. Dolphin Tanki is a step towards ensuring that the Startup India movement reflects the full diversity of entrepreneurial talent across the country.”
The impact is clear. Past Dolphin Tanki winners have grown their incomes by 2.5 to 3 times, creating real financial independence in families where monthly earnings were once unpredictable. Many have reinvested in their businesses, expanded their services, and even hired employees, creating ripples of economic empowerment in their communities.
Dolphin Tanki is not only about capital, it is about building long-term entrepreneurial success. Participants leave the event with seed funding to expand their businesses, mentorship from industry experts and business professionals, hands-on experience in financial planning, marketing, and customer engagement, and a strategic roadmap to scale their businesses beyond their immediate communities.
Dolphin Tanki aligns with Salaam Bombay Foundation’s mission of equipping adolescents with the skills to break the cycle of poverty in a single generation. By shifting the focus from mere survival to sustainable growth, these young entrepreneurs are proving that financial independence is achievable with the right opportunities.
Gaurav Arora, Sr. VP Skills and Sports, Salaam Bombay Foundation, said, “Entrepreneurship should not be a privilege, it should be an opportunity available to anyone with ambition and vision. Dolphin Tanki proves that young entrepreneurs can build businesses that sustain not just themselves, but their families and communities. By providing them with seed capital, mentorship, and business training, we are ensuring that they are set on a path toward financial independence and long-term success.”
With the continued support of NMIMS Mumbai, Narotam Sekhsaria Family Office, and YuWaah India at UNICEF, Dolphin Tanki is not just an event, it is a launchpad for the next generation of business leaders.
Dolphin Tanki 4.0 took place on March 19, 2025, at the School of Business Management, NMIMS Mumbai.

This will enable patients to consult specialist doctors with ease. To support patients and their attendants, he also instructed an increase in the number of night shelters at RML, Lucknow. Additionally, he stressed the need to expand access to organ transplant services, ensuring timely treatment for those in need.

  • Furthermore, he issued clear instructions to ensure that hospitals registered under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme receive payments within 30 days, allowing patients to continue receiving uninterrupted healthcare services.
  • During the meeting, the Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure the mandatory presence of doctors in PHCs, CHCs, and district hospitals so that patients receive timely medical care.
  • He emphasised the importance of collective efforts in making the Honorable Prime Minister’s TB-Free India campaign a success. He urged public representatives to adopt TB patients and support their treatment and rehabilitation.

Affordable Medicines for all

The Chief Minister also directed officials to ensure the availability of affordable and sufficient medicines in all hospitals and health centers across the state, ensuring that patients do not face any difficulties.

CSR News: HYDRAA Urging Corporates to Donate CSR Funds for Lake Restoration in Twin Cities

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) is urging corporates and NGOs to donate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds for restoration of lakes in Twin Cities. HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath held a meeting with 72 corporate representatives at his Buddha Bhavan office on Wednesday where he discussed how CSR funds can be utilised to restore lakes in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
The HYDRAA Commissioner also said that comprehensive lake restoration should be prioritised over mere beautification of the cities. He advised the organisations to focus on overall development of the lakes and warned “Everyone should realise that if the lakes are not protected, the ecological balance will be damaged, and the survival of future generations will be compromised.”

61 per cent tanks in Hyderabad untraceable

According to HYDRAA, within the Outer Ring Road, there are 1,025 tanks, of which 61 per cent are untraceable. The agency aims to salvage the remaining 39 per cent. In Wednesday’s meeting, HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath highlighted the urgency of protecting these water bodies. The Commissioner said that lakes like Sunnam Cheruvu, Tammidikunta Cheruvu, Kukatpally Nalla Cheruvu, Uppal Nalla Cheruvu, Bum-Rukh-Ud-Daula Lake and Bathukamma Kunta are being completely restored.
Combined endeavour is the need of the hour to remove silt from the water bodies, divert canals to prevent sewage contamination and establish freshwater ponds through the installation of sewage treatment plants, urged the commissioner. He said, “HYDRAA is working to enhance the reputation of the respective institutions through the development of these ponds.”

Telangana HC questions HYDRAA over ‘double standards’

Meanwhile the Telangana High Court on Wednesday lashed out at HYDRAA ridiculing it for its alleged double standards. The court questioned why the agency was not looking into constructions happening in elite areas such as Durgam Cheruvu and Gachibowli while it is busy demolishing structures belonging to the poor in the name of preserving lakes and protecting government lands.
“Do the same laws not apply to the rich and elite? Just by carrying out demolitions in slums does not serve any public good. It serves the purpose only when you act on illegal properties owned by the rich around Durgam Cheruvu, Miyapur lakes,” Justice CV Bhaskar Reddy stated.
The High Court made this observation while dealing with a petition challenging notices issued by Rajendra Nagar tahsildar in connection with illegal constructions encroaching upon Miralam Tank.
The court asked if HYDRAA officials can take action against politicians and influential persons who have encroached roads and parks and had constructed structures in government lands and FTL, buffer zones. It also sarcastically stated that HYDRAA should rather focus on the above instead of posing for the media after demolishing houses of middle class and underprivileged people.

RBI
According to a recent study released by the Reserve Bank of India, the Indian economy is continuing to demonstrate resilience as evident in the strong performance of the agriculture sector and the gradually improving domestic consumption. The report is released amid rising trade tension and tariff issues posed by the Trump administration globally.
The report said, “Domestically, macroeconomic fundamentals remain strong, and economic growth is poised to sustain momentum driven by robust domestic demand, steady investment activity, and ongoing policy-driven infrastructure development along with a pick-up in government spending.

Financial Year 2025

The RBI report stated that the global economy entered 2025 on a strong note of resilience and is currently caught in a storm of escalating tensions and heightened uncertainty around the scope, timing and intensity of tariffs.
However, robust kharif production between rabi sowing along with higher reservoir levels and seasonal winter correction in vegetable prices have kept food inflation under control. But volatility in commodity prices and weather anomalies still remain potential risks to the overall inflation landscape, according to the RBI report.

Air Indian and Air New Zealand Sign MoU for Direct Flight Connectivity

India-New Zealand
India and New Zealand could see direct air connectivity in the coming three years. Air India and Air New Zealand are exploring opportunities for a direct flight service by the end of 2028 as part of the agreement between the two airlines to boost connectivity between the two countries.

India-New Zealand Ties

Air India and Air New Zealand have come up with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that establishes a new code-sharing partnership along with exploring direct flight services between the two nations. Both airlines are members of Star Alliance and have seen significant demand potential for travel between India and New Zealand for tourism, trade and education. Currently, New Zealand also has a sizeable Indian population. People of Indian origin form the third largest ethnic group in the country.
At present, there is no direct flight between India and New Zealand and travellers have to transit via other airports in South East Asia and Australia. This increases the total travel duration to around 17 hours or more.
“The MoU includes the establishment of a new code-sharing partnership on 16 rounds between India, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, conferring travellers more choice and convenient access between the two countries.” said the two airlines in a joint release after signing the MoU in Mumbai.

Sleep Tourism-

Sleep Tourism
Sleep Tourism

Stress Buster

Sleep tourism

Her Story: A Northeastern Lawyer Who Fights Against Racism in India

Racism
This is the tale of an inspiring Indian humanitarian, activist and lawyer from Manipur, Dr Alana Golmei.
Born in Tamenglong, Manipur in a Naga family, Golmei has worked in preventing harassment and abuse of women and tribal individuals from the Northeast.
Often, north Indian cities like the capital city Delhi, are not the best host to people from the Northeast, who often suffer visible and invisible forms of racial discrimination. While the students are called racist names like ‘Momo’ or ‘Chinky’, women from the Northeast employed in hospitality and direct customer services often face sexual harassment in a metropolitan miles away from their home. Unable to communicate in the local language and in the absence of any support, tribals from the Northeast often find themselves stuck.
Alana’s goal has been to assist people from north east, both of tribal and non-tribal backgrounds, to fight racial discrimination across India. Golmei was also part of the 2014 Bezburruah committee, which famously suggested measures to deal with racial discrimination targeted at north-eastern Indians. The committee was formed after the alleged death of a student from the Northeast after facing racial discrimination in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar market.
Get to know stories of more such inspiring women and stay tuned.
Her Story is a special text and video series by the CSR Journal that is focused on news that promotes gender equality.
