US: Indian Student Praveen Fatally Shot During Robbery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Gampa Praveen, a 27-year-old Telangana student died in Milwaukee Wisconsin during a shooting incident. Praveen studied data science as a master’s degree student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee after moving to the United States in 2023. He worked as a part-timer at a local retail store before his death occurred. Early Wednesday his father Raghavulu received a missed WhatsApp call from Praveen. Raghavulu dialed back the number and the call was picked up by a stranger who stated that they found Preveen’s phone. The family became concerned when Praveen missed his morning call from his father but later discovered from his friends that he had been fatally shot while his store was being robbed.

Family Remains in Distress After Praveen’s Death

Officials notified Praveen’s family about his death a few hours later in the morning after they discovered his body with gunshot injuries but remained unsure about the circumstances leading to his death. The family remains in a state of shock while they wait to receive autopsy results. One of several fatalities affecting Indian students living in the United States involves the death of Praveen. Two students from the region faced death by shooting while studying in the US during the previous months prompting worries about Indian student security abroad.
Praveen maintained regular contact with his family until the incident occurred. During the last two months in 2024 Praveen paid a visit to his home country before returning to the United States in January. Due to the distress from the loss the family is now seeking help from Telangana local leaders and authorities to address this difficult situation.

Attack on International Students Increases

The attack on international students abroad has become a concerning trend since reports indicate rising incidents of student violence while studying abroad. Recently, a 35-year-old student named Neelam Shinde from Maharashtra fights for survival in a US hospital after sustaining a coma from a hit-and-run accident. The Indian government along with Neelam’s family members provide her ongoing support while she recovers in California as they work through official procedures to be together in her critical health condition. These cases serve as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by students studying abroad, and the urgent need for enhanced protection and support systems for them.

gold treasur indus river

Pakistan

Trump Engages in Direct Talks with Hamas, “Release Hostages or it is Over for You”

Under the Trump administration, there has been a policy shift regarding Gaza which includes direct discussions between American officials and the Palestinian militant group Hamas which maintains control over the region. This developed into a major policy shift regarding the United States’ position because it ended its refusal to interact with Hamas since 1997. White House official Adam Boehler serves as the US special envoy for hostage affairs to negotiate with Hamas representatives in Doha Qatar. The discussion maintains a sensitive position because it aims to obtain Hamas’s release of all captured hostages.

Ultimatum to Hamas

President Donald Trump issued an urgent and forceful warning to Hamas, demanding the immediate release of hostages and the return of deceased individuals’ bodies. In a post on social media, Trump declared, “Shalom Hamas’ means hello and goodbye – You can choose. Release all of the hostages now, not later, and immediately return all the dead bodies of the people you murdered, or it is over for you. Only sick and twisted people keep bodies, and you are sick and twisted! I am sending Israel everything it needs to finish the job, not a single Hamas member will be safe if you don’t do as I say,” he said.
“I have just met with your former hostages whose lives you have destroyed. This is your last warning! For the leadership, now is the time to leave Gaza, while you still have a chance. Also, to the People of Gaza: A beautiful Future awaits, but not if you hold Hostages. If you do, you are dead! Make a smart decision. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES NOW, OR THERE WILL BE HELL TO PAY LATER!” This statement follows months of failed negotiations and growing frustration with Hamas’ refusal to release more hostages.

Trump Vows to Send Military Aid to Israel

The United States government maintains an unwavering position against Hamas through both military backing for Israel and Trump’s strong demand to dismantle the group. The United States is providing Israel with all necessary resources so the nation can fully accomplish its ongoing military missions against Hamas. The United States continues active arms delivery to Israel under the Trump administration while increasing pressure on Hamas to fulfill its demands.
High-level diplomatic efforts at the White House failed to resolve the hostage crisis. Hamas has shown little willingness to obey demands from both American officials and Israelis despite holding repeated negotiations. The January ceasefire agreement enabled the release of hostages as Palestinian prisoners were freed according to the terms. The hostage situation became more difficult after Hamas refused additional prisoner exchanges which complicating efforts to extend the truce.

Tense Diplomacy

As diplomatic efforts stagnate, Trump’s hardline rhetoric continues to fuel tensions. While some critics argue that this approach could escalate the conflict further, others see it as a necessary step to secure the release of hostages. With the future of Gaza uncertain, the administration is walking a fine line between securing American interests and preventing further escalation of the already volatile situation.

CSR News: Water Restoration Initiative Transforms Farm and Community

Decades of hardship have turned into a story of revival for 46-year-old Sanjay Khot, a farmer from Gholvad, a coastal village in Maharashtra. With water salinity and rising scarcity, growing Chickoos – the region’s agricultural backbone, became increasingly challenging. Every year, as the summer months approached, Sanjay and other farmers faced an uncertain future, relying on expensive and unreliable water sourced from a dam to meet their irrigation needs.
“Earlier, we had to walk miles to fetch water, and our crops suffered,” recalled Sanjay.
The turning point came with Tata Motors’ innovative water conservation initiative. Tata Motors took responsibility for rejuvenating water bodies in the Palghar district in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra. The existing village pond in Gholvad was cleaned, and desilted, restoring the water capacity of around 4 crores litres and revitalising the community’s future.
Sanjay Khot, who once struggled to secure enough water for his orchards, now sees a significant improvement with a steady and reliable water supply. “My water well did not go completely dry and our Chickoo trees flowered for the second time in the year. I enjoyed the fruits of one more crop cycle. The revived pond has reduced the time and money spent on sourcing water for the village. The large pond also has the potential of becoming a tourist spot, thus offering additional livelihood opportunities to the villagers.” he said. With steady access to fresh water, his Chickoo orchards are thriving once again, ensuring a stable income for his family.
Emphasising the importance of community-driven solutions, Vinod Kulkarni, Head of CSR at Tata Motors, stated “Water security is fundamental to rural prosperity. By working together with the government and NGO partners like NAAM Foundation, we are not only restoring water bodies but also revitalising entire communities, ensuring sustainable benefits for farmers like Sanjay Khot.”
The once-dry pond now glistens with fresh water, an improved water table, and thriving Chickoo trees.
Recently, the Maharashtra government has awarded Rs 10 lakh to Gholvad gram panchayat under the R R Patil Beautiful Village Award Scheme. As Gholvad moves towards a future with sustainable water resources, Sanjay’s journey stands as a testament to how targeted interventions can transform lives, reaffirming Tata Motors’ commitment to empowering communities through responsible and impactful CSR initiatives.

Kamal Haasan’s ‘Hindia’ Jab at BJP, Backs CM Stalin on Delimitation

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) leader Kamal Haasan during a meeting in Chennai | PTI
Actor-politician Kamal Haasan on Wednesday joined the ongoing debate over the ‘Hindi imposition’ and parliamentary constituency delimitation. He accused the BJP-led central government of attempting to “turn India into Hindia” by forcing non-Hindi speaking states to accept Hindi.
Haasan’s remarks underscore growing concerns about the imposition of Hindi and its potential to erode India’s diverse linguistic and regional identity.

What does Kamal Haasan Say?

Speaking at an All-Party Meeting of Tamil parties, Haasan criticised the central government’s push to make Hindi the predominant language across all states. “The centre is trying to make all states speak Hindi and win elections with a majority. Our dream is ‘India’… theirs is ‘Hindia’,” he said.

Haasan further went on criticising the central government’s plans for delimitation of parliamentary constituencies. He warned that the proposal could undermine India’s federal structure and diversity.
“The issue of parliamentary constituency delimitation based on population is just not a concern for Tamil Nadu” to elaborate that it also affects Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Odisha, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh and the North-Eastern states,” he said.

MK Stalin’s Resolution

The All-Party Meeting on Wednesday chaired by Tamil Nadu CM M. K. Stalin passed a resolution urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that the 1971 census population should be used for delimitation from 2026 for the next 30 years. The meeting also criticised the government’s move, warning that it could harm India’s democratic and federal principles.
The resolution reads, “It is entirely unjustifiable to reduce parliamentary representation of Tamil Nadu and other South Indian states solely because they have proactively implemented population control measures in the national interest.”
Various political parties, including the DMK, Congress, and Communist parties, attended the meeting.
