Baloch Liberation Army Claims 26 Personnel Killed in Series of Attacks in Balochistan

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks across Pakistan’s Balochistan province, alleging that 26 Pakistani military and government-backed armed personnel were killed between August 9 and 15.

According to a report by The Balochistan Post (TBP), the separatist group claimed to have carried out 22 attacks during the period. The alleged targets included military personnel, police, government-backed armed groups, security installations, infrastructure and commercial vehicles. The claims were attributed to BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch, while there was no immediate comprehensive response from Pakistani authorities addressing all the allegations.

BLA Reports Attacks Across Balochistan

The BLA claimed that its fighters seized three commercial vehicles along the Quetta-Taftan trade route in Chagai on August 9. The group also said its members detained police personnel from the Eagle Squad on Qambrani Road in Quetta and seized their weapons and equipment.

On August 10, the group claimed that its fighters detained police personnel at Zomi on the main highway in Kharan before destroying the police post with explosives. According to the BLA, the personnel were subsequently released after being warned.

The following day, the BLA claimed an attack on a government-backed armed group in Sorap, located in the Buleda area of Kech. It alleged that the group’s leader, Muslim Jeeyand, was killed, four others were wounded and another person was detained.

Military Convoys And Vehicles Targeted

The BLA reported several attacks against Pakistani military vehicles and convoys during the period. On August 12, it claimed responsibility for destroying the Chehtar police station in Chagai with explosives and attacking military vehicles at Bartagzi.

The group also claimed an improvised explosive device attack on a military convoy in Rodenjo, Kalat. It alleged that 17 personnel were killed and several others wounded, while two military vehicles were damaged.

Separately, the BLA claimed that an IED attack on a military vehicle in Surab killed three personnel and wounded several others. On August 14, it reported another IED attack on a military convoy in Turbat, claiming that one military vehicle was destroyed, three personnel were killed and four others were wounded.

Police And Surveillance Infrastructure Attacked

Police facilities and surveillance systems were also among the reported targets. The BLA said a police officer was wounded in a grenade attack on police lines in Chitkan, Panjgur, on August 13.

The group also claimed that surveillance and night-vision cameras were destroyed in Gilli, Buleda, and that its fighters shot down a quadcopter being used for aerial surveillance. A commercial vehicle was subsequently set on fire in Talu, Chagai.

The BLA further claimed that two Pakistani military personnel were killed in an attack at Badal Karez Cross in Nushki.

Further Attacks Reported On August 14 And 15

On August 14, the group claimed that several grenades were fired at a government event near Agriculture Colony in Quetta. It also said a military camp in Ahmadwal, Nushki, was attacked with heavy weapons.

Two commercial vehicles were reportedly disabled in Bartagzi, while an explosion damaged a railway track at Jojki, according to the BLA statement.

On August 15, the group claimed that two military posts and a bridge near Mal Madrassa in Surab were destroyed with explosives.

BLA Reports Fighting In Panjgur

The BLA also described fighting in Chedgi, Panjgur, saying clashes began on August 10 after Pakistani troops advanced into the area.

According to the group, Pakistani forces launched a ground operation in Chedgi that day, leading to an hours-long clash with BLA fighters. The group claimed that two of its members, Sangat Wazir Ahmed alias Zahid and Sangat Jasim alias Meraj, were killed.

The BLA further alleged that Pakistani authorities later killed three forcibly disappeared Baloch men in a staged encounter and falsely presented them as casualties of the fighting. These allegations could not be independently verified.

Balochistan Conflict Continues

Unrest in Balochistan has continued for more than two decades, with Baloch separatist groups accusing Islamabad of exploiting the province’s natural resources while politically and economically marginalising its population.

The BLA is the most prominent of the separatist groups operating in the province and has repeatedly carried out attacks targeting security forces, civilians, Chinese nationals and infrastructure. The United States designated the organisation a Foreign Terrorist Organisation in 2025.

Violence remains widespread across the province. According to Pakistan’s Centre for Research and Security Studies, Balochistan recorded 956 fatalities from hundreds of violent incidents in 2025.
