Amit Shah convenes Emergency Meeting with Border State Chief Ministers after ‘Operation Sindoor’

In the wake of India’s powerful counterstrike dubbed ‘Operation Sindoor’, Union Home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday called for an urgent security review meeting with the chief ministers and top officials of India’s 10 border states, including West Bengal. The meeting, held at 2 pm today, comes amid heightened tensions following India’s retaliatory strike against Pakistan-based terror camps.

The emergency meeting aimed to assess border security preparedness in the aftermath of India’s precision strikes targeting nine terrorist bases across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The strike was a direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, where 26 innocent persons were brutally killed by terrorists.

“With Pakistan threatening retaliation, the Centre is taking preemptive measures to fortify national borders and prevent any escalation. The meeting will include discussions on intelligence sharing, deployment readiness, civilian safety, and cross-border infiltration risks,” said a senior BSF official in West Bengal.

Chief ministers and top administrative officials, including director generals of police from West Bengal, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Sikkim and Ladakh were present at he meeting.

These regions share sensitive borders with Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and China, making their role critical in national defense and internal security coordination.
According to official sources, ‘Operation Sindoor’ was launched 15 days after the Pahalgam attack, and targeted nine terror launchpads, including a facility reportedly linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar in Bahawalpur.

Operation Sindoor: India’s response to Pahalgam terror attack

Wednesday’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ is in response to only men being singled out based on their faith before being killed in Pahalgam on April 22.

“These steps come in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were murdered. We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable,” India said in a statement.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Defence confirmed hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir “from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed.”

The Ministry of Defence has clarified that Operation Sindoor was “focused, measured, and non-escalatory”. Every effort was made to ensure that only terrorist infrastructure was targeted, avoiding any damage to Pakistani military installations. This strategy was designed to send a firm message while avoiding broader military conflict.
