Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez recently visited Aluva in Kochi and interacted with the families affected by floods. She was in Kerala as part of the NGO Habitat for Humanity India’s campaign to support flood victims. The campaign – Jacqueline Builds – aims to construct 500 disaster-resistant houses for the flood-affected in Kerala.
Jacqueline also visited a team of volunteers and the local community who are constructing a house for Sreedevi S and Anilkumar K C in Aluva. “I am fortunate to be in Aluva to build a home for Sreedevi S and Anilkumar K C and express my solidarity with the flood-affected people,” she said. Actress Shweta Menon accompanied Jacqueline.
After the floods in Kerala 2018, Jacqueline Fernandez came forward in support of the families affected by the floods. In addition to her personal donation, she mobilised fans to donate funds for relief intervention in the immediate aftermath of the floods.
Jacqueline reached out to other Bollywood celebrities such as Hrithik Roshan, John Abraham, Akshay Kumar, Arjun Kapoor, Remo D’Souza, and Shraddha Kapoor, who showed their solidarity to the campaign by signing bricks; a symbol of a strong foundation.
Habitat India has distributed First Responder Kits, Humanitarian Aid Kits, bottled water and other essentials, serving 87,333 families in the immediate aftermath of the floods. 53 families have been helped in cleaning their flooded homes and Tools Banks have been set up across Gram Panchayats to provide hardware that helps families with cleaning.
“We have begun the third phase of their work in Kerala with the repair, renovation and building of new houses for families who have lost everything,” said Jacqueline.
Previously in 2016, Jacqueline visited Chennai to start the first Jacqueline Builds, in response to the floods in Tamil Nadu. She worked along with 150 volunteers from corporate organisations and schools across India, to build homes with families who were affected by the floods. She was instrumental in spreading awareness about the campaign and fundraising for the relief intervention. From leveraging social media platforms to meeting the contributors to motivate them to support the families through Habitat, she went all out to gather support to provide shelter to these families.
