Who is Dussehra Celebrated in the Capital City

The CSR Journal Magazine

On the 10th day, just after Navratri and 20 days ahead of Diwali, the festival of Vijayadashami or Dussehra is celebrated across the country. According to the epic folklore Ramayan, this day marks the end of the king of Lanka, Ravan. Today, the statue of Ravan, Meghnath and Kumbhakaran are burnt to mark the victory of good over evil.

Today, the capital city is also celebrating Vijayadashmi in its own unique way. I am standing in front of the biggest Ravan Dahan celebration of Delhi, at Ramleela Maidan .

Every year, Ramleela Maidan erects one of the tallest statues of Ravan, usually more than 50 feet. Besides the Dahan, a grand mela attracts lakhs of Delhiites. From balloon games, sweet stalls to huge giant wheel, the mela has it all.

Situated at the heart of the capital city, the Ramlila maidan celebration is visited by dignitaries like the state CM, PM and various eminent personalities.

Another big Ravan Dahan Pandal in the capital city is at Madhavdas park on the Red Fort ground where president Draupadi Murmu ignited the statue of Ravan using a bow and arrow.

While this year, the Prime Minister cancelled his plans to visit the Ip extention extension, Ravan Dahan Padal, on the eastern side of Delhi.

Despite rain, Delhi celebrated its Dussehra with the statue of Ravan, Meghnath and Kumbha Karan being burnt to celebrate, good over evil. The plans looked ruined all across Delhi, until 8 PM when the rain stopped and people could gather to see Ravan Dahan.
