Twin Shocks in Bihar: Mukhiya, Aide Shot Dead in Lakhisarai; Constable Attempts Suicide in Kaimur

In a chilling reminder of how rural rivalries can turn deadly, Chandan Singh, the elected mukhiya of Walipur panchayat, and his close aide Chandan Kumar were shot dead in the early hours of Wednesday. The double murder, suspected to be the result of an old enmity, took place around 1:30 AM as the duo was returning home from a social gathering in Walipur village.

According to Piparia police station SHO Ujjwal Kumar, unidentified assailants intercepted the victims and opened fire at close range, giving them no chance of survival. Preliminary investigations suggest this may have been a meticulously planned execution linked to past personal or political vendettas.

Law enforcement has intensified security in the area, anticipating unrest. A large-scale search operation has been launched to trace the attackers.

“We are looking into every possible motive, though past enmity appears to be a strong lead,” said SHO Ujjwal Kumar, adding that all angles are under investigation. The double murder has shaken the region, with locals demanding swift arrests and justice.

In another incident in Bihar’s Kaimur district, a 26-year-old constable, Amlesh Kumar, allegedly attempted suicide by shooting himself with his service AK-47 rifle while on duty Monday night.

Kaimur SP Harimohan Shukla confirmed that Amlesh was given immediate medical aid and referred to Varanasi. His condition is reported to be stable.

A similar incident occurred on September 21, 2024, in Bihar’s Samastipur district, where Banviro panchayat mukhiya Narayan Sharma was shot dead, raising broader concerns over the rising violence against local leaders in the state.
