Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, lodging a formal complaint over a protest he faced at Kolkata Airport and seeking action against two BJP MLAs whom he has named in the incident. Roy has termed the episode a breach of privilege.

According to Roy, the protest took place on Tuesday afternoon when he arrived at the airport to attend an official meeting in his capacity as Chairman of the Kolkata Airport Advisory Committee. As his vehicle entered the airport premises, a group of individuals allegedly surrounded it, raising slogans such as “Go back” and “Thief, thief,” while waving black flags.

The situation reportedly escalated beyond sloganeering, with claims that protesters shoved his car and even struck it with a shoe. Security personnel later intervened and brought the situation under control.

Allegations against BJP MLAs

In his complaint to the Speaker, Roy named BJP MLAs Arijit Bakshi and Sourav Sikdar, alleging that the protest took place in their presence and with their support. He further claimed that the demonstrators were BJP supporters and accused the party of orchestrating the protest.

Expressing shock over the incident, Roy said he had not expected such hostility while attending an official meeting. He reiterated that the matter amounts to a breach of parliamentary privilege and demanded strict action against the two legislators mentioned in his complaint.

Background of political tensions

The protest comes amid a series of demonstrations targeting Trinamool Congress leaders and workers in different parts of West Bengal. Recent incidents have included slogan-shouting, black flag protests, and alleged instances of objects being hurled at political figures during public appearances.
