After the United Nation forced and seized Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, social media is buzzing with a virtual battleground to both diplomatic and military drama. What started as a major geopolitical event that unfolded in Venezuela on X, Reddit and Instagram, has now become memes, parodies and AI-generated content. Not even 24 hours to the major event, social media users started flooding the platforms with edits that are mostly satirical, it has edits of U.S President Donald Trump’s social posts and beside it exaggerated depictions of the Venezuelan leader Maduro.
Some of the viral memes of Maduro and Trump
The most popular is ‘Maduro Fit’- This is basically the outfit Maduro wore while he was photographed in U.S custody. The picture was first shared by Donald Trump on Truth Social, where the former Venezuelan leader was photographed wearing a grey Nike Tech Fleece tracksuit. This instantly became a meme and turned trendy.
A social media X user Maxwell Meyer shared the Maduro outfit from Nike store and wrote, “You can get the Maduro renditioning fit for $260 from Nike”. It was reported by the Gulf News that the tracksuit worn by the former leader of Venezuela has become a viral fashion moment in its own right.
Some AI-generated content has also become viral. Many deepfake videos and images were seen flooding the social media, where Maduro is placed in a jail cell paired with celebrities to satirical videos like “Make Venezuela Great Again” and in the clipping Trump speaks Spanish.
Amidst all the memes and satires, Morgan J. Freeman, a social media influencer posted about Epstein and Trump, she wrote, “TRUMP & EPSTEIN ARE SEX TRAFFICKERS!!! I’m gonna post this every day so nobody forgets exactly who Pedophile Trump is and why the Epstein files have suddenly disappeared.”
Other prominent personalities like Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk reposted a Maduro-Diddy meme that illustrates how even high-profile accounts are drawn into meme culture.
What has happened in the Maduro case till now?
On January 3, under Absolute Resolve, former Venezuela head Maduro was captured by the U.S military, and an explosion rocked the capital city of Caracas. Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were captured and taken to New York, they later appeared in a federal court in Manhattan and pleaded not guilty to multiple charges. Charges included narco-terrorism, drug trafficking. Maduro has been ordered to stay in custody till the next hearing scheduled for March 17.
