Vladimir Yakushev, the Secretary of the General Council of the Edinaya Rossia Party and First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, is set to undertake an official visit to India from April 2 to April 4. This trip aims to bolster inter-parliamentary connections and explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation between the two nations, according to a statement from the Russian Embassy.

During his visit, Yakushev is expected to engage with Indian parliamentarians to discuss a range of topics of mutual interest. The agenda will include discussions on trade and economic initiatives, as well as cultural and humanitarian collaborations. A meeting with India’s Minister of External Affairs is also part of the itinerary, where they will deliberate on bilateral engagement and strategic matters.

Focus on Reviewing Ongoing Projects

Officials from both India and Russia have indicated that this visit will provide a platform to assess current projects and pinpoint new areas for collaboration, particularly in the fields of trade and investment. The anticipated discussions will extend into cultural exchanges and enhancing people-to-people connections, which are seen as vital for reinforcing the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

This visit comes during a pivotal period as both nations aim to broaden their cooperation across various sectors, leveraging historical connections and shared strategic interests. The trip underscores the importance both India and Russia attach to continual dialogue and partnership at both parliamentary and governmental levels.

Upcoming Russian Foreign Minister’s Visit

Next month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is also scheduled to visit New Delhi on May 14 and 15. The primary objective of this visit is to attend the meeting of foreign ministers from BRICS countries, as conveyed by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko. He noted that this gathering will shape the set and outlines of the final documents to be presented at the upcoming BRICS summit, hosted by India.

Rudenko further mentioned that alongside the BRICS events, Lavrov’s itinerary includes a working visit to engage with India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and other officials. This engagement is viewed as an important aspect of ongoing diplomatic efforts between the two nations.
