Redmi Note 17 Pro Debuts with 9,000mAh Battery and HyperOS 3 at ₹36,999

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Redmi Note 17 series has expanded with the introduction of two new models: the Note 17 Pro and the Note 17 Pro Max. The Note 17 Pro is positioned centrally within this lineup, with a starting price of Rs 36,999. While it offers a blend of features aimed at captivating the consumer, there are concerns it may be overshadowed by its siblings, the base Note 17 and the Pro Max version.

Design and Build Quality

The design of the Redmi Note 17 Pro diverges from its predecessor, opting for a square camera module located at the top right corner. This module features an additional pill-shaped element for the lenses, a design reminiscent of the earlier Poco X8 Pro Max. The matte finish on the rear is effective at resisting fingerprints, particularly in the Cloud Blue variant, which showcases cloud-like patterns. Weighing 226 grams and measuring 8.6mm in thickness, this model strikes a balance between size and comfort, though it is not the lightest option on the market.

Moreover, the Note 17 Pro boasts an IP69K rating, assuring users of its durability against dust and water, making it suitable for outdoor conditions.

Display and Audio Features

This model features a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display that comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, a standard expectation for smartphones in this price range. The screen is fortified with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, ensuring its longevity. The bezels are notably uniform, and the display includes a punch-hole for the camera. The optical fingerprint scanner integrates smoothly into this setup.

The display supports over 68 billion colours, with peak brightness levels reaching 3,500 nits. During outdoor usage, the visibility of the content remains clear even under direct sunlight. Additionally, the Note 17 Pro employs a vibrant colour mode which can be toggled to a more natural setting. Audio quality is complemented by Dolby Atmos support, although there are limitations regarding Netflix and YouTube’s HDR functionalities.

The device’s stereo speakers offer a 300 per cent boost mode, enhancing volume levels, though some users might find the clarity not sufficiently high.

Performance and Battery Life

Equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset, the Note 17 Pro is supported by LPDDR4X RAM and either UFS 3.1 for the 256GB model or UFS 2.2 for the 128GB variant. Even though it faces competition from devices featuring more powerful chipsets, the performance in daily tasks is satisfactory. The device handles applications and multitasking with relative ease, although demanding gaming sessions may lead to performance dips.

The Note 17 Pro houses an impressive 9,000mAh battery, which significantly contributes to its lasting power. Users are likely to experience extended battery life, often retaining up to 50 per cent by the end of the day, even with intensive use. Included is a 67W charger that facilitates full charging in approximately 90 minutes, alongside reverse charging capabilities at 22.5W for convenience.

The camera system consists of a 50-megapixel main lens with optical image stabilisation and an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor, delivering decent image quality. While the camera specifications may seem diminished compared to previous models, the overall results remain competitive with vibrant colours and acceptable detail retention.

Software and User Interface

The Redmi Note 17 Pro operates on HyperOS 3, based on Android 16, and is slated for four years of OS updates along with six years of security patches, enhancing its longevity. This user interface is largely familiar to users of previous Xiaomi devices, while also incorporating features like an IR blaster and NFC support.

Moreover, the device includes Xiaomi Offline Communication, facilitating connections with nearby Xiaomi devices without network reliance. While the user experience is generally smooth, certain aspects of the interface may feel less advanced compared to competitors.

Overall, the Redmi Note 17 Pro delivers a well-rounded package with noteworthy features, particularly in battery life and display quality, although performance might not fully meet the expectations of power users.
