Apple has announced the commencement of pre-orders for the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, starting October 16. The device was unveiled to global markets, including India, earlier in September. To ensure that customers experience the new foldable device, Apple is reportedly shipping an unusually high number of demo units to its retail locations. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, a notable concentration of these demo devices will be at the Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York, which is set to receive over 150 units. Additional key locations, including the Apple Park Visitor Centre in Cupertino, will receive about 100 units, while major stores in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Manhattan will each have between 30 and 40 devices available for customer interaction.

Regular Apple Stores will receive approximately 20 units each, which may lead to longer wait times for customers visiting smaller outlets. This substantial allocation of demo devices indicates Apple’s commitment to facilitating hands-on experiences for shoppers, allowing them to compare features directly.

Dedicated Display Areas to Showcase iPhone Duo Features

In a bid to highlight its innovative folding form factor, Apple is establishing dedicated display areas termed “The Avenue” within its stores. Several flagship locations will utilise central spotlight tables custom-designed to illustrate the folding and unfolding mechanism of the iPhone Duo. This interactive setup aims to engage customers more effectively in understanding the product’s unique capabilities.

Additionally, Apple plans to install specialised MagSafe stands to hold an unfolded iPhone Duo next to two conventional iPhones, facilitating easy comparisons of screen sizes. This configuration also enables customers to trial the foldable’s StandBy mode without being restricted by a tethered setup.

The iPhone Duo features a 7.6-inch main folding screen and a 5.4-inch cover display. It operates on Apple’s newest A20 Pro processor, accompanied by 12GB of RAM and a base storage capacity of 256GB.
