Mehbooba Mufti Expresses Solidarity with Iran at Embassy Tribute

The CSR Journal Magazine

On March 9, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti visited the Iranian Cultural Centre and the Embassy of Iran in New Delhi to express her condolences over the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Khamenei passed away on February 28 due to airstrikes conducted by the United States and Israel. During her visit, Mufti emphasized her solidarity with the Iranian people and also addressed the situation of Kashmiri students currently in Iran.

In a post on X, Mufti articulated her intentions, stating, “I came to express my deepest condolences to the people of Iran in these difficult times and to pay my tributes to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on his martyrdom. I also raised concerns regarding the Kashmiri students stranded in Iran with the Hon’ble Ambassador.”

Speaking to the media, Mufti conveyed her sympathy, saying, “We have come here to express our condolences to the Iranian people for their loss and to honor the great Iranian leader. The Kashmiri people stand in solidarity with the courageous and resilient citizens of Iran.” She underscored that prayers were being made for Iran amid ongoing conflicts. “We are praying for their victory in this war against evil, as Iran stands firm against the Epstein gang,” she stated. Mufti further praised the resilience and courage of the Iranian populace.

In the same vein, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also visited the Iranian Embassy, signing the condolence register in memory of Khamenei. Naqvi shared his condolences with the Iranian leadership and reiterated India’s longstanding commitment to peace. “We came here to pay tribute to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Hazrat Ali Khamenei, and had a meeting with the Iranian Ambassador. I offered heartfelt condolences,” he told reporters.

Naqvi highlighted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s consistent advocacy for resolving conflicts through dialogue and peaceful negotiations. “PM Modi has emphasized that tranquility is the path to problem-solving. War should not be considered a solution. We pray for peace to emerge swiftly from the current crisis,” he added.

Following Khamenei’s death, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei has been named the new Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution. The decision was made by the country’s Assembly of Experts after several days of deliberation, representing a significant transition in the leadership of the Islamic Republic. The clerical body confirmed the appointment in a formal statement, declaring that Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei has been elected as the third Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

This political shift occurs amidst rising tensions in the West Asia region, following the deceased leader’s killing alongside high-ranking figures from the Iranian government due to the US-Israel airstrikes. In response, Iran retaliated by targeting American military installations and Israeli interests across multiple Arab nations. The US and Israel have continued their operations against Iran, with Israel extending its actions to Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah and Iranian-supported militant organizations.
