Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari launched the Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva and PM e-Bus Services at a state-level programme in Bhopal on September 25. During the event, they flagged off a total of 351 buses designated for intercity and intracity travel across seven cities in the state.

The cities benefiting from this initiative include Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Rewa, Dewas, Katni, and Bhind. This launch forms part of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, which is celebrated to honour Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. A booklet detailing the Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva was also released during the event, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed among Madhya Pradesh Yatri Parivahan and Infrastructure Limited (MPYPIL), IIM Indore, and the School of Planning and Architecture.

Government’s Commitment to Improved Public Transport

Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Yadav highlighted the significance of this new service in enhancing road transport and easing mobility for residents across Madhya Pradesh. He mentioned that over 5 lakh kilometres of roads had been developed in the state and emphasised the government’s goal to provide transportation options even to remote villages.

The Chief Minister indicated that the ongoing expansion of National Highways would further facilitate improved transport services. He expressed appreciation for Union Minister Gadkari’s support and mentioned various other benefits the state received during the event, including free toll services until the completion of a new overbridge.

Yadav noted that this initiative is pivotal for connecting villages to urban centres, and mentioned a broader initiative to deploy 1,500 buses initially, ultimately aiming for a total of 15,000 buses by 2031.

Impact of the New Bus Services

Union Minister Gadkari acknowledged the Madhya Pradesh government for introducing the new bus services, which include electric buses. He asserted that these modern transport solutions would significantly ease commuting for the general public, particularly benefiting economically weaker sections of society.

Gadkari expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Yadav and the state administration for their efforts in launching these services, aimed at providing a safe and affordable alternative to private transport. He referred to the introduction of technology-enabled bus services as a historic milestone for the state.

According to official announcements, the initial phase will include 145 buses operating in Indore, comprising 50 intercity and 95 intracity buses; 106 buses in Bhopal, which includes 23 intercity and 83 intracity buses; and 67 buses in Jabalpur, including 14 intercity and 53 intracity buses. Further allocations include 18 intercity buses for Rewa, 10 for Dewas, three for Katni, and two for Bhind.

As part of its long-term strategy, the state government envisions the annual addition of approximately 2,500 to 3,000 buses following the initial deployment of 1,500. This strategy is aimed at significantly improving public transportation in Madhya Pradesh over the coming years.
