In a deeply unsettling case from Kota’s Anantpura area, a man was arrested for brutally assaulting his 65-year-old mother inside his sister’s home. The attack, driven by a long-running property dispute, was captured on video and later submitted to the police as key evidence.
The violent episode occurred on July 20, around 12:30 pm at Om Green Meadows, where the victim, Santosh Bai, had been staying with her daughter. The accused, Deepu Mehra, aged 35, allegedly kicked the gate open, barged into the house, and launched a violent attack on his mother. The video, recorded by a family member, shows him dragging the elderly woman by her hair, kicking and punching her, and striking her with slippers.
Eyewitnesses, including his sister and children present at the time, tried to intervene but were shoved aside. The scene was traumatic, with children seen crying and pleading as the assault continued. The horrifying video lasted almost 1 minute and 49 seconds, during which Deepu showed no signs of stopping.
“It is a family matter. I was very upset. My parents were not able to understand. I was very angry,” Deepu told authorities during questioning.
Kota Man Held for Assault, Gets Bail After Video Outrage
Following the video’s circulation on social media on Thursday, public outrage mounted. The Anantpura Police swiftly took action and arrested Deepu the same day. He was later presented before a court, sent to judicial custody, and subsequently released on bail—a decision that has stirred public concern.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Uday Singh confirmed the video is being used as evidence in the investigation. He said, “Strict action will be taken based on the evidence and the seriousness of the crime.”
The root of the violence appears to be a family dispute over ancestral property in Vinoba Bhave Nagar, where the Mehra family originally resided. According to reports, Deepu’s father, Ramnarayan Mehra, transferred the ownership of the house to his daughter after repeated conflicts with his elder son. Despite the transfer, Deepu continued to live in the property, often causing trouble.
Due to Deepu’s persistent aggression, Ramnarayan, his wife Santosh Bai, and their younger son Dharmendra—a nursing staff member at New Medical College Hospital—left the ancestral home and moved into the daughter’s flat several kilometers away. The daughter, a Junior Engineer in the Public Health Engineering Department, offered them a safer living arrangement.
Elderly Mother: ‘Son’s Harassment Forced Us to Leave Home
In her statement to the police, Santosh Bai said, “I have three children—two sons and a daughter. Deepu, my elder son, had been harassing us for some time, which forced my husband, younger son Dharmendra, and I to shift to my daughter’s flat in Anantpura’s Om Green Meadows.”
The brutal assault unfolded shortly after Deepu entered the house. According to the complaint, he started vandalising furniture and verbally abusing his mother before launching the physical attack. Her daughter tried to defend her, but Deepu pushed her aside. Even the children’s cries did not stop the violence.
Circle Inspector Bhupendra Singh provided further details, saying, “The accused son was arrested the same day. He was produced in court, from where he was sent to judicial custody. Later he was released on bail.”
The case remains under active investigation. Law enforcement is focusing on the property dispute angle, which has reportedly caused repeated tension within the family.
As the footage continues to circulate online, many have condemned the attack and called for stricter punishment for domestic violence, particularly against elderly family members.
