Kerala Police conducted a significant operation named “Operation Round Up,” resulting in the arrest of 1,663 individuals as part of a focused initiative to enhance law enforcement and ensure public safety. This operation took place from February 12 to 14, 2026, and was launched under the direction of State Police Chief Ravada Azad Chandrasekhar. The primary aim was to apprehend habitual offenders and those involved in serious criminal activities. The initiative marks a decisive step towards improving overall security in the state.
Details of Arrests
During the operation, law enforcement officials took 691 individuals into custody who were connected to grave criminal activities. Additionally, 972 persons, previously listed as absconding in various cases, were apprehended. The comprehensive approach underscored the authorities’ commitment to tackling crime effectively.
Operational Command and Strategy
The strategic execution of the operation was overseen by the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Law and Order, with zonal Inspectors General (IGs) and District Police Chiefs leading the efforts across various regions of the state. The police coordinated their actions to ensure maximum effectiveness in bringing accused individuals to justice.
Preventive Measures and Regulations
Among the active measures taken, a total of 1,028 individuals were subjected to preventive actions under the provisions of BNSS Sections 126 and 129. Furthermore, in alignment with the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA), 20 individuals were placed under preventive detention, while externment proceedings were initiated against 30 others to further mitigate risks associated with repeat offenders. These measures highlight the proactive approach of the authorities in addressing public safety concerns.
Traffic Violations and Responses
As part of the drive, law enforcement also identified and registered 1,354 cases against individuals driving under the influence. In response, steps have been initiated to suspend the driving licenses of those involved. This measure aims to enhance road safety and deter future violations.
