The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a joint press conference with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in New Delhi. The leaders focused on advancing bilateral relations across various sectors, emphasizing their shared commitment to surpassing 20 billion USD in trade over the next five years. Modi expressed gratitude for Lula’s presence at the Global AI Impact Summit and acknowledged his leadership in strengthening India-Brazil connections.

Strengthening Economic Ties

During the press conference, Modi acknowledged Brazil as India’s largest trade partner in Latin America. He highlighted the presence of a substantial Brazilian business delegation as a significant indicator of the commitment to foster economic cooperation. Modi pointed out that the expansion of the India-MERCOSUR trade agreement would facilitate increased economic collaboration between both nations.

Commitment to Technology and Innovation

Modi mentioned initiatives such as establishing a Centre of Excellence for Digital Public Infrastructure in Brazil. He stressed the importance of cooperation in fields like artificial intelligence, supercomputers, semiconductors, and blockchain, underlining the belief that technology should promote inclusivity and mutual progress. Modi also noted the strong foundation of energy cooperation, which extends to both conventional and renewable energy sources.

Focus on Renewable Energy and Sustainability

In addressing energy relations, Modi discussed collaboration in renewable energy, particularly in areas like ethanol blending and sustainable aviation fuel. He commended Brazil’s active role in the Global Biofuel Alliance, signifying a mutual commitment to a more sustainable future. Furthermore, Brazil’s proposition to co-chair the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure was recognized as a vital initiative that could leverage Brazil’s experience in enhancing resilience.

High-Level Delegation Meetings

Prior to the press conference, Modi and Lula engaged in delegation-level discussions that included senior Indian government officials such as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. The meetings were part of Lula’s state visit to India, which included ceremonial honors at Rashtrapati Bhavan and tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

Upcoming Business Forum

The Brazilian President arrived with a significant delegation comprised of top executives from Brazilian companies, scheduled to take part in an upcoming Business Forum. This visit follows a significant trip by Prime Minister Modi to Brazil in July 2025, which was noteworthy for being the first visit by an Indian prime minister in over 50 years.
