Gujarat on Monday launched the ‘Cyber Financial Fraud e-Zero FIR’ service to enable quicker registration and investigation of cyber financial fraud cases. The initiative allows victims to begin the legal process without visiting a police station, with complaints lodged through the national cybercrime helpline automatically converted into Zero FIRs.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi launched the service in Gandhinagar, saying the initiative is aimed at improving access to police services through technology while ensuring faster action in cyber fraud cases and increasing the chances of recovering defrauded money.

Complaints Through Helpline to Generate Automatic FIRs

According to a release issued by the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), complaints registered through the national cybercrime helpline 1930 will now automatically generate an e-Zero FIR.

The Zero FIR will be forwarded to the jurisdictional police station, allowing legal proceedings and investigation to begin without delay.

Sanghavi said the state government is leveraging technology to provide faster, more transparent and citizen-friendly policing. He added that victims of cyber financial fraud would now be able to register complaints from their homes instead of visiting police stations.

Police Asked to Ensure Prompt Investigation

The release said Director General of Police Gyanendra Singh Malik has directed all field units to treat cyber financial fraud cases with seriousness and sensitivity while ensuring speedy justice for complainants.

Inspector General of Police, Cyber Centre of Excellence, Bipin Ahire said the e-Zero FIR mechanism has been implemented in coordination with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

He explained that complaints received through the 1930 helpline will automatically be converted into Zero FIRs before being forwarded to the concerned police station. Police personnel will then contact the complainant, collect the required information, formally register the FIR in accordance with prescribed procedures and immediately begin the investigation.

First e-Zero FIR Helps Save Rs 15.76 Lakh

According to the CMO, Gujarat’s first e-Zero FIR was registered in a case involving an Ahmedabad resident who allegedly fell victim to cyber fraud under the guise of a digital arrest.

Acting on the e-Zero FIR, the Cyber Crime Department initiated a prompt investigation and succeeded in preventing the loss of more than Rs 15.76 lakh belonging to the complainant.

The state government said the initiative is expected to strengthen Gujarat’s response to cyber financial fraud by reducing delays in registering cases and enabling faster police intervention.
