Who were the Four Juveniles Detained for Assaulting Manipur Woman with Belt in Delhi?

The CSR Journal Magazine

A woman from Manipur was reportedly abused and assaulted by a group of teenage boys in the Malviya Nagar area of South Delhi. The incident unfolded on the evening of March 8 at Satpura Park, where the woman was visiting to meet a friend.

According to accounts, a group of boys in the park began shouting derogatory comments and sexual slurs towards her. When she objected to their behavior, the situation escalated and she was physically assaulted, with one boy allegedly using a belt during the attack.

Police Response to the Incident

The Malviya Nagar police station received a call about a disturbance at the park. Upon arrival, law enforcement encountered the injured woman, who recounted her experience. She stated that the group verbally insulted both her and her friend while they were taking photographs in the park.

After they voiced their discontent over the offensive remarks, the teenagers reportedly responded with aggression, racially abusing the women and physically assaulting her.

Details of the Assault

The woman claimed that one of the assailants punched her in the face and pursued her as she attempted to flee. She also expressed disappointment that nearby bystanders did not intervene to assist her during the ordeal. As a result of the altercation, the victim sustained minor injuries and was first taken to Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital.

Medical staff observed a small laceration behind her ear, along with mild swelling and an abrasion on her chin. To ensure no serious injuries had occurred, she was subsequently referred to Safdarjung Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Investigation and Arrests

Following the incident, which led to the filing of a first information report (FIR) on March 9, police initiated an investigation. A specialized team was formed to locate the suspects involved in the assault. Using local intelligence and reviewing CCTV footage, law enforcement conducted several raids in the Malviya Nagar area, successfully apprehending four juveniles believed to be connected to the incident.

Profile of the Accused

The arrested individuals are all aged between 15 and 16 years and reside in the Malviya Nagar locality, as per police reports. Among them, three are identified as school dropouts, while one is currently in the seventh grade. Authorities also recovered the belt that was allegedly used during the assault, further linking the youths to the incident.

Raising Concerns about Safety

This incident has sparked renewed concerns about the safety of individuals from Northeast India in the national capital. It follows another reported case of racial abuse involving women from Arunachal Pradesh that occurred in South Delhi. Such incidents have highlighted ongoing issues related to discrimination and security for those from the region living in metropolitan areas.
