The Patiala House Court in New Delhi has issued a notice to the Delhi Police, requesting an Action Taken Report (ATR) concerning a complaint seeking to register an FIR against Sanjay Azad and a minor girl. This decision, made on September 23, 2026, arises from a complaint lodged by Amita Sachdeva, who alleges that both individuals used derogatory remarks and offensive language in their posts on X, targeting Hindu deities.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Mridul Gupta is overseeing this case and has instructed the Station House Officer (SHO) of Parliament Street Police Station to provide the required Action Taken Report. The court has scheduled the hearing for January 2027 to assess further developments and the police’s response warranting the FIR.

Allegations of Insulting Hindu Deities

The complaint details how both accused are alleged to have insulted Hindu Gods and Goddesses through content posted from the minor’s X account. It cites that specific posts have invoked the names of significant deities, such as Bhagwan Shiv, Bhagwan Shri Krishna, Maa Saraswati, and Maa Durga, branding them as imaginary and inciting hatred against Hindu religious texts.

Moreover, Sachdeva claims to have viewed these posts between September 3 and 4, 2026, at her chamber within the Supreme Court complex. She states that the posts remain accessible to the public, which she believes contributes to a wider, systematic agenda aimed at belittling Hindu beliefs and fostering communal discord.

In particular, the complaint mentions multiple posts dated from April 9, 2023, to September 8, 2023, which contain mocking references to Goddess Durga and Maa Saraswati, suggesting a pattern of behaviour over the years that consistently offends Hindu sentiments. For instance, a satirical comment linked to the observance of Krishna Janmashtami allegedly degrades both the observance and its significance.

Ongoing Concerns Over Shared Account Usage

According to the allegations, the content published has been consistently harmful and inflammatory, formed from a collaborative use of the same public X account operated by both Azad and the minor. The complainant argues that the posts collectively demonstrate a prolonged effort to undermine Hindu deities and scriptures.

Despite issuing a notice to the respondents regarding the objectionable content, the posts remain intact, with neither Azad nor the minor having taken any measures to remove them. This continued usage of the account brings further scrutiny to the nature of the posts and their potential ramifications for communal harmony.

As the case progresses towards the January 2027 hearing, the court will consider the details presented in the ATR by the police, which will inform the next steps in the legal proceedings against Azad and the minor girl. The implications of this case are significant, given its focus on religious sentiments and the broader context of social media interactions in contemporary India.
