Karnataka, India: In the hilly and forested villages around Sandur, Chornur, and Toranagallu, a much-needed change is rolling in on two wheels. With the support of NMDC, the Ballari District Police has received eight powerful Cheeta Patrol Bikes to improve law enforcement presence and response time in rural areas.
This initiative, funded under NMDC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, was officially launched with a handover ceremony recently where Shri Shivendra Bahadur Singh, Executive Director, NMDC Donimalai Complex, handed over the bikes to the Superintendent of Police, Ballari.
For villages where tough terrain and distance, these new bikes are already making a visible difference. Police officers can now patrol difficult-to-reach areas more frequently and respond to distress calls faster, especially those involving women, children, and senior citizens.
The police too have welcomed this move with open arms. Officers report better coverage across rural areas and greater interaction with the public. Residents, especially women, have shared how the presence of patrol bikes has brought a sense of security, allowing them to go about their daily activities with more confidence.
“Earlier, we hesitated to walk outside after dark. Now, seeing the police bikes move around our village gives us peace of mind,” shared one woman from a village near Toranagallu.
This initiative reflects NMDC’s ongoing commitment to rural development and people-first growth. Along with education, health, and skill-building programmes, NMDC is now strengthening safety as well.
