Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has officially launched the extensive sapling plantation initiative, termed as “Maha Vriksharopan 2026,” aiming to plant 35 crore saplings across Uttar Pradesh. This ambitious programme is designed as a significant step towards environmental preservation and is part of the broader commitment of the government to combat climate change and promote ecological sustainability.

The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of tree planting in his speech, highlighting that it serves both as a means to enhance the state’s greenery and as a responsibility towards future generations. He stated that this initiative aims to create a healthier environment and mitigate the negative impacts associated with urbanisation and deforestation.

Government Preparations and Logistics

The Uttar Pradesh government has reportedly undertaken elaborate preparations to ensure the successful execution of the sapling plantation drive. Various departments are collaborating in the logistics of the initiative, including the Forest Department, which has played a crucial role in the selection and propagation of suitable sapling species for different regions within the state.

Additionally, local bodies and community organisations are being mobilised to participate actively in the plantation efforts. The intention behind this collective participation is to instil a sense of environmental stewardship among citizens and ensure the upkeep of the saplings post-plantation.

The programme is set to commence on the auspicious occasion of World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5. This symbolic timing is aimed at maximising public engagement, as environmental awareness tends to be heightened during this period. CM Yogi has appealed to the citizens to take part in the plantation activities across urban and rural areas, underlining that their involvement is crucial for the initiative’s success.
