The central part of Myanmar experienced a major 7.7 magnitude earthquake on Friday that triggered broad panic followed by widespread destruction. A severe tremor originated near Sagaing in Myanmar at 12:50 pm local time with its centre located 16 kilometers north-west of town. A subsequent magnitude 6.4 aftershock appeared twelve minutes after the initial tremor thus expanding destruction all across the area.

People Evacuated from Buildings

The massive quake spread tremors that reached Thailand where it affected both Bangkok and Chiang Mai cities. People throughout Bangkok evacuated their buildings hurriedly while being in their pajamas during the earthquake. Harrowing videos captured in the city demonstrate how tall buildings experienced extreme shaking that caused residents to seek protection. An under-construction skyscraper in the Chatuchak area fell during construction while trapping at least 40 workers inside, but authorities confirmed no one lost their life in Thailand.
In Myanmar, the destruction was widespread. The Ava Bridge, an iconic structure connecting the Sagaing and Ava regions, collapsed into the Irrawaddy River. Several buildings in Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, also crumbled. Videos from Mandalay and other areas show debris scattered on the streets, with residents in a state of shock, many trapped under the rubble. Residential buildings, as well as commercial and historical structures, were heavily damaged.

The damage spread throughout Myanmar to an extreme extent. The Ava Bridge fell into the Irrawaddy River while connecting the Sagaing to the Ava regions. The buildings of Mandalay suffered complete destruction as the second largest city of Myanmar. Visual footage from Mandalay and other cities displays broken debris scattered across streets and reveals residents who remain in disbelief while some individuals attempt to escape from collapsed buildings.
Despite the severity of the situation, no tsunami warnings were issued, and there have been no confirmed reports of widespread casualties at this point. Myanmar’s already fragile healthcare system, especially in its rural areas, is expected to face significant challenges in the coming hours as rescue operations continue.

The earthquake’s impact also extended to other regions in Southeast Asia, with tremors felt in China’s Yunnan province. Back in Thailand, several buildings were evacuated, and some metro and rail services in Bangkok were temporarily halted. In response to the crisis, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra held an emergency meeting to assess the situation and coordinate efforts for relief and recovery.

Ramzan: जल्द ही माह-ए-रमजान मुकम्मल होने के साथ-साथ गर्मी में रोजेदारों के सब्र का इम्तिहान भी पूरा हो जाएगा। 2007 से 2025 के बीच 19 साल रोजेदारों ने सूरज की तपिश, उमस भरी गर्मी और लू के थपेड़ों के बीच खुदा की इबादत की। अब आने वाले 11 साल, यानि 2026 से लेकर 2036 तक रमजान का महीना सर्दियों के बीच ही गुजरेगा। 2026 से 2036 तक Ramzan की आमद ठंडे मौसम में होगी। वर्ष 2007 से 2025 तक 19 बार Ramzan का महीना आया। इस्लामिक कैलेंडर का यह पाक महीना पिछले 19 वर्षों में मार्च से सितंबर के बीच गुजरा। इस बीच कभी रोजेदारों का सामना अप्रैल-मई की झुलसा देने वाली तपिश से हुआ, तो कभी जून, जुलाई, अगस्त में पसीने से तरबतर करने देने वाली उमस भरी गर्मी से। मार्च और सितंबर ने भी रोजेदारों का इम्तिहान लिया। इस दौरान मार्च, अप्रैल, मई, जुलाई, अगस्त में तीन-तीन Ramzan गुजरे। दो-दो बार जून और सितंबर में Ramzan की शुरुआत हुई। अब Ramzan का पाक महीना खिसक कर सर्दियों में पहुंचने वाला है। आने वाले 11 साल रोजेदारों के लिए राहत भरे होंगे। मुकद्दस Ramzan की आमद ठंडे मौसम होगी। इसकी शुरुआत 2026 से होगी। यह सिलसिला 2036 तक चलेगा। इस दौरान माह-ए-रमजान दिसंबर, जनवरी, फरवरी की ख़ुशनुमा सर्दियों में आएगा। इसके अलावा अक्तूबर और नवंबर की गुलाबी सर्दी भी रोजेदारों को राहत देगी।

हर साल 10 से 12 दिन पीछे खिसकता है Ramzan

गर्मियों में रोजे रखना कतई आसान नहीं है। जबकि पहले सर्दियों के महीने में रोजे आता थे। गर्मियों में झुलसा देने वाली तपन के बीच 14 से 15 घंटे भूखे-प्यासे रहकर रोजेदार को कड़ी परीक्षा देनी पड़ती है। Africa के कई मुस्लिम देशों में, गर्मियों में तापमान बहुत अधिक होता है। यहां Ramzan के महीने में रोजेदारों की हालत बहुत ही गंभीर हो जाती है। अब सवाल उठता है कि आख़िर Ramzan के बदलते मौसमी दौर की वजह क्या है?
दरअसल, मुस्लिम धर्म में हिज़री ‘Chand Calendar’ को फॉलो किया जाता है। इसे इस्लामी पंचांग भी कहते हैं। इस कैलेंडर में चांद दिखाई देने के अनुसार तिथि तय होती है। इस कैलेंडर में 12 महीने होते हैं और हर महीना अर्ध चंद्र दिखने के साथ शुरू होता है। चंद्र महीना 29 या 30 दिन का होता है, जिससे 1 चंद्र वर्ष या 12 महीने लगभग 354 दिन के ही होते हैं। यानि कि Gregorian Calendar के 365 दिनों की तुलना में Chand Calendar में 11 दिन कम होते हैं। यही कारण है कि इस्लामिक चांद कैलेंडर Gregorian Calendar से हर साल लगभग 11 दिन पीछे चला जाता है। इसके चलते Ramzan के महीने का पहला दिन, इस्लामी कैलेंडर का 9वां महीना, हर साल लगभग 11 दिन पीछे चला जाता है। यही कारण है कि हर 10-11 साल में रमजान का मौसम बदलता रहता हैऔर हर 33 साल में एक मौसमी चक्र को पूरा करता है।

2023 में दो बार मनेगी ईद

मुसलमानों के लिए वर्ष 2030 खास रहेगा। इस साल में रहमत और बरकत का मुबारक महीना रमजान दो बार होगा। एक साल की शुरुआत में दूसरा साल के अंत में। वर्ष 2030 में जनवरी और दिसंबर में Ramzan का आग़ाज़ होगा। वहीं तीन साल बाद वर्ष 2033 में मुसलमानों को दो बार ईद मनाने का मौका मिलेगा। एक ईद जनवरी में होगी तो दूसरी दिसंबर में मनाई जाएगी। Ramzan के मुबारक रोज़े रखने वाले इन दिनों में गर्मी से बेहाल हुए बिना खुशगवार मौसम में खुद की इबादत कर पाएंगे।

Goa, India: Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB), one of India’s leading FMCG companies, has reinforced its commitment to community development in Goa through its flagship CSR program, Project SHINE. These initiatives, which include handing over of sewing machines, installing digital smartboards in schools, providing water filtration units, setting up solar-powered streetlights, and organizing health camps, further HCCB’s mission to empower local communities through sustainable development. Shri Mauvin Godinho, Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Industries, Panchayat, and Protocol, Government of Goa, inaugurated these initiatives at a special event held in Goa, in the presence of local officials, community members, and beneficiaries.
As part of its community development initiative, by targeting SHGs at the grassroots level, HCCB ensures that its support is focused and effective, making a tangible difference in the lives of these women. The company is equipping 50 beneficiaries from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with industrial grade sewing machines. Meerut Police Launches Strict Regulations on Roadside Namaz Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr

Before Eid-ul-Fitr arrives Meerut Police established rigid rules which limit public road namaz prayers. Police authorities declared prayers on public roads will not be permitted during this year so violators will receive legal penalties. The authorities will take away driving licenses and passports from anyone caught performing namaz on public roads. Individuals who face criminal charges must receive a Court-sanctioned No Objection Certificate (NOC) before applying for new documents.

Surveillance Ramped Up

The administration authorised this policy after penalising approximately 80 individuals for disobeying the same restrictions during the previous year. Police have implemented strict surveillance through drones and CCTV cameras to monitor sensitive areas and prevent disturbances. Security forces operate throughout the city to maintain order, while uniformed officers and plainclothes officers keep watch in areas with high-risk potential. A parliamentary standing committee has expressed dissatisfaction over the gross underutilisation of funds allocated to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for the ‘Control of Pollution’ scheme during the financial year 2024-25.
Of the Rs 858 crore earmarked for combating pollution, only Rs 7.22 crore – less than 1 per cent – was spent by January 21, according to the Demands for Grants (2025-26) report tabled in Parliament.

Control of Pollution scheme

The ‘Control of Pollution’ scheme, launched in 2018, aims to monitor and mitigate air, water, and noise pollution across India. It is a critical component of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), which targets reducing particulate matter pollution in 131 cities by 2026. The scheme also provides financial assistance to weaker state pollution control boards and supports environmental monitoring programmes.
Despite its importance, the ministry has failed to utilise the funds due to pending approval for the scheme’s continuation until 2025-26.
The parliamentary panel criticised this delay, stating that it comes at a time when air pollution has reached alarming levels in India. Delhi remains the world’s most polluted capital, with an average PM2.5 concentration of 91.8 micrograms per cubic metre, and many other cities are experiencing dangerously high air quality index levels. The committee urged the ministry to introspect and address the reasons behind this underutilisation, emphasising the urgent need for action against deteriorating air quality.

Implications of Fund Mismanagement Amid Air Pollution Crisis

The failure to utilise funds has raised concerns about India’s ability to tackle its worsening air pollution crisis effectively. The Rs 858 crore allocation represents over 27% of the ministry’s annual revised budget estimate, making its underutilisation a significant setback. The parliamentary panel noted that previous financial years saw full utilisation of allocated budgets, suggesting systemic issues in planning and approval processes this year.
The delay in utilising funds jeopardises efforts to clean air in non-attainment cities—those failing to meet air quality standards—and undermines progress towards NCAP goals. With Rs 3,072 crore allocated for these cities between 2019-20 and 2025-26, effective implementation is crucial to achieving pollution reduction targets.
Experts warn that continued mismanagement could exacerbate public health issues linked to poor air quality, including respiratory diseases and cardiovascular problems. The panel’s report highlights the need for immediate action to streamline approval processes and ensure timely utilisation of resources.
In conclusion, while India faces a severe air pollution crisis affecting millions, bureaucratic delays have hindered critical mitigation efforts. IPL 2025: Lucknow Super Giants Beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 Wickets

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured their first victory of the IPL 2025 season. The team won by five wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday.
Chasing a target of 191, Nicholas Pooran’s explosive innings of 70 runs off just 26 balls proved decisive, alongside Mitchell Marsh’s steady contribution of 52 off 29 deliveries. Earlier, Shardul Thakur’s impressive bowling figures of 4/34 restricted SRH to 190/9 despite a promising start.
SRH won the toss and chose to bat first. However, the team faced early setbacks as Shardul Thakur dismissed Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan in consecutive deliveries during the third over. Travis Head attempted to stabilise the innings with a brisk 47 off 28 balls, but his dismissal by Prince Yadav curtailed momentum.
Contributions from Nitish Kumar Reddy (32) and Heinrich Klaasen (26) helped SRH reach a competitive score. Nonetheless, the wickets fell regularly towards the end due to disciplined bowling from LSG.

Pooran and Marsh Dominate the Chase

As LSG began their chase, the team lost an early wicket. The partnership between Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh proved game-changing, as they added 116 runs for the second wicket. Pooran was particularly aggressive, hitting six fours and six sixes, and reaching his fifty in just 18 balls, which was the fastest of the season so far. Marsh complemented him well with calculated strokeplay before falling shortly after reaching his half-century.
Despite a few hiccups in the middle order, LSG comfortably achieved the target in just 16.1 overs, thanks to Abdul Samad’s finishing cameo. This victory marked a strong comeback for Lucknow after their opening defeat against Delhi Capitals earlier this week. With this win, LSG showcased their batting depth and resilience under pressure, while SRH will need to address their inconsistency in both batting and bowling as they move forward in the tournament.

‘डमी स्कूलों’ में पढ़ने वाले स्टूडेंट नहीं दे पाएंगे बोर्ड्स परीक्षा, CBSE का सख्त आदेश

Dummy School: CBSE बोर्ड की ओर से Dummy Schools के खिलाफ कड़ी कार्रवाई का निर्णय लेते हुए इन स्कूलों की मान्यता रद्द कर दी गई है। यह कार्रवाई Delhi और Rajasthan के 21 Dummy Schools पर की गई है। Dummy School में पढ़ने वाले स्टूडेंट्स के लिए बुरी खबर है। केंद्रीय माध्यमिक शिक्षा बोर्ड (CBSE) ने Dummy स्कूलों के खिलाफ सख्त कार्रवाई करते हुए इन स्कूलों के छात्रों पर Board Exams में ना बैठ पाने की बंदिश लगा दी है। Delhi और Rajasthan के 21 स्कूलों की Affiliation को खत्म किया गया है, और छह स्कूलों को डाउनग्रेड किया गया है। बोर्ड ने यह कदम उन स्कूलों  के खिलाफ उठाया है जो स्टूडेंट्स को नियमित कक्षाओं को Attend न करने की छूट देते हैं, और इन्हें केवल Board Exams के लिए ही स्कूल जाना होता है। इसकी वजह से शिक्षा की गुणवत्ता पर बुरा असर देखने को मिल रहा है।

क्या होते हैं Dummy School

Dummy School ऐसे संस्थान होते हैं, जहां छात्रों का Admission तो होता है, लेकिन छात्र नियमित रूप से कक्षाओं में उपस्थित नहीं होते, और केवल बोर्ड परीक्षाओं में हिस्सा लेते हैं। यह व्यवस्था ख़ासकर Medical और Engineering प्रवेश परीक्षाओं के लिए बनाई गई है, ताकि स्कूल आने जाने में लगने वाला समय बचाया जा सके और उसे और उसे प्रवेश परीक्षाओं की तैयारी में लगाया जा सके। इस तरह के छात्र इंजीनियरिंग या मेडिकल जैसी प्रतियोगी परीक्षाओं की तैयारी को लेकर कोचिंग में रेगुलर स्टडी करते हैं। ये स्कूल में न्यूनतम उपस्थिति भी नहीं बनाते। इस प्रथा ने शिक्षा प्रणाली की मूल भावना के खिलाफ और छात्रों के समग्र विकास में रुकावट डाली है।

CBSE की सख्त कार्रवाई

मीडिया रिपोर्ट्स की मानें तो CBSE ने दिसंबर 2024 में दिल्ली, बेंगलुरु, वाराणसी, बिहार, गुजरात और छत्तीसगढ़ के 29 स्कूलों में अचानक निरीक्षण किया। इन निरीक्षणों में सामने आया कि कई स्कूलों में छात्र नियमित कक्षाओं में मौजूद थे ही नहीं। ये इसके आधार पर बोर्ड ने 18 स्कूलों को ‘कारण बताओ’ नोटिस दिया और इन स्कूलों की एफलिएशन (Affiliation) को रद्द कर दिया गया है। CBSE के नियमों के तहत बोर्ड परीक्षाओं में बैठने को लेकर छात्रों का नियमित रूप से कक्षाओं में हाजिर होना और न्यूनतम उपस्थिति की शर्त को पूरा करना जरूरी है। शिक्षा मंत्रालय ने स्पष्ट रूप से बताया कि डमी प्रवेश की प्रथा को रोकने को लेकर स्कूलों के खिलाफ कार्रवाई आगे भी जारी रहने वाली है। स्कूलों को निर्देश दिया गया कि वे Attendance से जुड़े नियमों का सख्ती से पालन करें और छात्रों को नियमित कक्षाओं में जाने के लिए उन्हें प्रोत्साहित करें।

Coaching Centres हैं Dummy School की वजह

अभिभावक अपने बच्चों को कितने ही महंगे स्कूलों में पढ़ा लें, लेकिन उन्हें यह डर रहता है कि बिना Coaching के बच्चों के अच्छे अंक नहीं आएंगे। इसके पीछे स्कूलों द्वारा सही तरीक़े से पढ़ाई न कराने की सीधी-सी कहानी है। आज पूरे भारत में जितने भी स्कूल हैं, उनमें से ज़्यादातर स्कूलों के प्रबंधकों की Coaching Centers से मिलीभगत है, जिसके दम पर अब Dummy School फल-फूल रहे हैं। ये Dummy School अवैध रूप से विद्यार्थियों को नियमित Classes न देकर छोटी-बड़ी प्रतिस्पर्धी परीक्षाओं, विशेष रूप से NEET, JEE और दूसरी प्रतिस्पर्धी परीक्षाओं के लिए कोचिंग करने पर ज़ोर देते हैं। हैरानी की बात यह है कि यह सब CBSE की नाक के नीचे होता है। इन कोचिंग सेंटरों और डमी स्कूलों के बीच गहरा सम्बन्ध है। जो अभिभावक और छात्र NEET/JEE कोचिंग के लिए इन संस्थानों से संपर्क करते हैं, उन्हें Dummy School में प्रवेश के अनुरोध के साथ-साथ संस्थानों द्वारा बिचौलियों की सहायता प्रदान की जाती है। ये बिचौलिये Delhi-NCR में सीबीएसई-संबद्ध डमी स्कूलों की सूची जुटाकर हर हफ़्ते कोचिंग सेंटर्स के कुछ दौरे करते हैं, जहां इच्छुक विद्यार्थियों को प्रवेश मिल सकता है। ये बिचौलिये विद्यार्थियों को डमी स्कूलों में प्रवेश दिलाने के बदले में कोचिंग सेंटर्स से अच्छा खासा कमीशन लेते हैं। Dummy School में प्रवेश प्रक्रिया केवल 11वीं कक्षा में होती है। माता-पिता / अभिभावक और विद्यार्थी खुले तौर पर डमी स्कूलों के लिए अपनी प्राथमिकता व्यक्त करते हैं। वे अपने बच्चों को कोचिंग सेंटर्स के माध्यम से ऐसे चयनित CBSE स्कूलों में दाख़िला दिलाते हैं, जहां उन्हें कक्षा में जाकर पढ़ने की आवश्यकता नहीं होती है। यद्यपि विद्यार्थी डमी स्कूलों को भी मासिक शुल्क (Monthly Fee) देते हैं, लेकिन वे स्कूल की नियमित कक्षाओं में पढ़ने नहीं जाते हैं। इसकी जगह वे Coaching Centers में पढ़ाई करते हैं। Dummy Schools में इन अनुपस्थित विद्यार्थियों की उपस्थिति नियमित मासिक शुल्क के बदले में स्कूल प्रशासन द्वारा दर्ज की जाती है। विद्यार्थियों को केवल इन डमी स्कूलों की वार्षिक परीक्षा / मुख्य परीक्षाओं में ही शामिल होना होता है।
शिक्षकों का तर्क है कि Dummy School देश में स्कूली शिक्षा प्रणाली को कमज़ोर कर रहे हैं। वे CBSE से स्कूलों का निरीक्षण करने और उन स्कूलों की पहचान करने का आग्रह करते हैं, जो निजी कोचिंग सेंटर्स के साथ मिले हुए हैं। कुछ लोगों ने चेतावनी दी है कि यदि यह अनुचित शिक्षा प्रणाली अनियंत्रित हो गयी, तो ज़्यादातर स्कूल भी इसका अनुसरण करेंगे, जिससे समग्र शिक्षा व्यवस्था में गिरावट आएगी और स्कूलों की शिक्षा व्यवस्था चौपट होने लगेगी। एक जनहित याचिका (PIL) से पता चलता है कि दिल्ली के स्कूलों में अन्य राज्यों के छात्रों को दाख़िला देने के लिए Dummy Schools का भी उपयोग किया जाता है, जिससे वे Delhi University के कॉलेजों में 85 प्रतिशत कोटा के लिए Eligible हो जाते हैं। अन्य लोग परीक्षा की तैयारी के लिए Dummy School पसंद करते हैं, क्योंकि यह हर दिन स्कूल और Coaching Center, दोनों में Compulsorily जाने के झंझट से मुक्ति दिलाता है।

 CBSE को Delhi High Court की फटकार

पिछले साल सितंबर में Delhi High Court ने दिल्ली में CBSE से संबद्ध स्कूलों के ख़िलाफ़ कार्रवाई की मांग वाली याचिका के जवाब में दिल्ली सरकार और केंद्रीय माध्यमिक शिक्षा बोर्ड (CBSE) को नोटिस जारी किया था। ये स्कूल कथित तौर पर कक्षा 11 और 12 के छात्रों को डमी स्कूलों द्वारा शिक्षा देने के अवैध कारोबार में शामिल थे। CBSE द्वारा Dummy Students को नामांकित करने के लिए दिल्ली के पांच स्कूलों सहित 20 स्कूलों को असंबद्ध करने के बावजूद डमी स्कूलों का अवैध धंधा धड़ल्ले से फल-फूल रहा है। यह ‘अखिल भारतीय व्यवसाय’ एक दशक से अधिक समय से चल रहा है। शिक्षा मंत्रालय ने पहले ही यह साफ कर दिया था कि डमी एडमिशन वाले स्कूलों पर कार्रवाई की जा रही है और यह प्रक्रिया आगे भी जारी रहेगी। CBSE के नियमों के अनुसार, नियमित स्कूल आना और न्यूनतम उपस्थिति Attendance की शर्त पूरी करना जरूरी है। स्कूलों को समय-समय पर अटेंडेंस नियमों का पालन करने के निर्देश दिए जाते हैं। अगर किसी स्कूल के डेटा में कोई गड़बड़ी पाई जाती है, तो उसे कारण बताओ नोटिस जारी किया जाता है। इसके बाद CBSE की टीम द्वारा स्कूल का निरीक्षण किया जाता है, और दोषी पाए जाने पर कड़ी कार्रवाई होती है।

डमी एडमिशन से बढ़ रही समस्या

देश में Dummy Admission एक बड़ी समस्या बन चुकी है। आमतौर पर, 9वीं कक्षा के बाद ही छात्र स्कूल जाना छोड़ देते हैं और कोचिंग सेंटरों में मेडिकल या इंजीनियरिंग की तैयारी करने लगते हैं। इससे शिक्षा प्रणाली पर नकारात्मक प्रभाव पड़ता है। CBSC ने इस समस्या को रोकने के लिए सख्त कदम उठाने शुरू कर दिए हैं। अब बोर्ड परीक्षा में बैठने के लिए स्कूलों में नियमित उपस्थिति जरूरी होगी। Dummy School की समस्या को खत्म करने के लिए CBSC ने जो सख्त कदम उठाए हैं, वे शिक्षा प्रणाली को सुधारने में मदद करेंगे। इससे छात्रों को अनुशासन का महत्व समझ में आएगा और वे कोचिंग के साथ-साथ नियमित स्कूल शिक्षा पर भी ध्यान देंगे।
