Dhoni’s Parents Grace Chepauk for the First Time, Stir Online Buzz Amid CSK-DC Clash
A special moment unfolded at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 5, as MS Dhoni’s parents, Pan Singh and Devaki Devi, made a rare appearance to watch an Indian Premier League match live. Accompanied by their granddaughter Ziva and Dhoni’s wife Sakshi, the family was seen cheering for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during their face-off with Delhi Capitals (DC).
First Ever Match Attended by Dhoni’s Parents
Interestingly, this marked the first time ever that Dhoni’s parents attended a CSK home match since his debut with the franchise in 2008. Their presence sparked emotional reactions from fans, while also igniting a fresh round of speculation about the legendary cricketer’s potential retirement from the IPL.
Earlier in the week, concerns had emerged over CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s fitness after he took a blow to his elbow during a match against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. This had led to whispers that Dhoni might return as captain for the game against Delhi. However, those rumors were put to rest when Gaikwad walked out for the toss, confirming his recovery by saying, “The elbow’s fine, I’m ready to go.”
Delhi Capitals Set Challenging Target
On the field, Delhi Capitals set a competitive total of 183/6, powered by KL Rahul’s impressive 77-run knock. The five-time champions CSK, who had earlier defeated Mumbai Indians in their opener but lost badly to Royal Challengers Bangalore, looked to bounce back in front of their home crowd.
Dhoni’s role in the team has continued to generate conversation. The 43-year-old has been batting lower down the order, even coming in at No. 9 against RCB — a move that didn’t sit well with many fans. Addressing this, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming explained that Dhoni now manages his workload carefully due to age-related fitness concerns. “He assesses how much he can contribute with the bat based on how his body feels on the day,” Fleming said.
Currently, CSK have won just one of their three matches and sit near the bottom of the points table, while Delhi remain unbeaten after two games.
Yogi Govt to Launch 18 new Child Helpline Units across Uttar Pradesh
In a significant move to ensure child safety and support the Uttar Pradesh government has taken major steps. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is strengthening child safety measures. The government has introduced Child Helpline (1098) under Mission Vatsalya.
Furthermore, the Yogi government is set to launch 18 new child help units. According to reports, 9 units will be built at railway stations and 9 at bus stands. The mission Vatsalya will further expand its reach and effectiveness with time.
The Mission ‘Vatsalya Yojana’
Under the Mission Vatsalya Yojana, the Child Helpline has been providing 24×7 assistance to children across Uttar Pradesh. The mission has been set up since the financial year 2023–24. Currently, the system includes a state-level control room, dedicated units in all 75 districts, 19 units at railway stations, and 2 at bus stands. This initiative is emerging as a milestone in ensuring swift support and protection for children in need.
24×7 Child Helpline service
The Yogi government is prioritizing child safety, and working to make the 24×7 Child Helpline service more effective and accessible across the state. This vital support system has become a lifeline for children in crisis, ensuring no child is left alone during emergencies.
Furthermore the establishment of 19 railway station units and 2 bus stand units has strengthened protection for vulnerable children in transit, offering them a greater sense of security.
New railway station units
In close coordination with the Government of India, the Yogi government has effectively expanded the Child Helpline network. As per the Department of Women and Child Development, 9 new railway station units and 9 new bus stand units have been approved for the financial year 2024–25.
Work is already underway to make these units operational, further strengthening the reach of the helpline. This initiative will be especially crucial for children found in vulnerable or unsafe conditions at public places like railway stations and bus stands.
