Jyoti Malhotra’s personal diary talks about receiving “mohabbat” from Pakistan

Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who was arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan reportedly revealed sensitive information about India during Operation Sindoor to Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). Malhotra was grilled by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) for her alleged links with PIOs on Tuesday. Jyoti Malhotra, 33, is among the 11 people who have been arrested so far for spying for Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Haryana Police has recovered the travel vlogger’s personal diary which contains detailed handwritten notes in both Hindi and English about her thoughts and travels, including her trips to Pakistan and how much “mohabbat” (love) she received from the neighbouring country’s “awaam” (masses).

Talking about how she wishes no difference would exist between the two countries, Jyoti wrote in her diary after returning from a Pakistan trip, “After completing a 10-day journey through Pakistan, today I return to my country, India. We don’t know how long the distances of borders will remain, but may the grievances of hearts disappear. We all belong to the same land, the same soil.”

In her diary, Jyoti praised the hospitality she received in Pakistan and expressed hope that more Indian Hindus could visit their ancestral sites there. She also expressed desire to reconnect with families separated during the 1947 Partition.

Jyoti was in regular touch with Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish

The Haryana police and the central investigating agencies probing Jyoti’s alleged connections with Pakistan have found that the YouTuber was in regular touch with Ehsan-ur-Rahim, alias Danish, an employee at the Pakistani High Commission in Delhi. She had been in touch with him from November 2023 till March 2025.

Hisar police spokesman Vikas Kumar said that Jyoti confessed to being in touch with Danish. Kumar said that Danish was developing Malhotra as “an asset”, adding that she was in touch with other YouTubers as well. She will be produced before a local court on Wednesday where police will seek an extension of her remand.

Danish is also allegedly associated with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). A day after her arrest, the Hisar police highlighted how Pakistani intel agencies were targeting social media influencers from India to paint a positive picture of the country and “push their narrative.” As per media reports, the duo had even travelled to Bali together.

According to the FIR, Jyoti grew close to Danish during her visit to Pakistan in 2023. Danish, who was expelled from India on May 13 after he was declared persona non grata, had allegedly introduced Jyoti to several Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs).

I have no regrets: Jyoti Malhotra

Despite the serious charges under the Official Secrets Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Malhotra appeared unfazed during questioning. “I have no regrets,” she reportedly told investigators. A senior official involved in the probe said, “Jyoti feels she did not commit any mistake. She believes what she did was justified.”

Officials have sent her three mobile phones, a laptop, along with two mobile phones of Harkirat Singh, IT in-charge of Haryana Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, for forensic analysis.

Jyoti Malhotra had visited Kashmir’s Pahalgam in January this year, exactly three months before a terror attack claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians on April 22. The 34-year-old social media influencer was arrested by Civil Lines Police in Haryana’s Hisar on May 17 on charges of spying for Pakistan under the guise of promoting cross-border travel content.

Jyoti’s Instagram account — which had 1.33 lakh subscribers — was blocked on Monday. Known for her YouTube channel Travel with Jo, she had built a strong following with over 3.77 lakh subscribers on YouTube and 1.32 lakh followers on Instagram.

Ride Cancellation Penalty

Ride Cancellation Charges

Supreme Court Grants Interim Relief to Ashoka University Professor Amid Social Media Controversy

The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday ordered the release on interim bail of Ashoka University professor Dr. Ali Khan Mahmudabad, following his recent arrest over a social media post that sparked accusations of inciting communal discord and defaming women officers in the armed forces. However, the court refused to halt the ongoing investigation and emphasised the need for responsible speech, especially during sensitive times.

The professor, who heads the Department of Political Science at Ashoka University in Sonipat, Haryana, was taken into custody on May 18 after two FIRs were filed against him at the Rai Police Station. One of the complaints came from Renu Bhatia, Chairperson of the Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW), while the other was lodged by Yogesh Jathedi, a village sarpanch. The charges include promoting enmity between different groups and undermining national integrity.

At the hearing, a bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh instructed the Haryana Director General of Police to form a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) by May 22 to probe the case further. Additionally, the court barred Mahmudabad from making public statements, publishing posts, or writing articles concerning the India-Pakistan conflict, the Pahalgam terror incident, or the ongoing investigation.

Justice Presented Deep Concerns About Mahmudabad’s Post

During the proceedings, Justice Kant raised serious concerns about the timing and tone of the professor’s post. “The country has faced a big challenge, and civilians were under attack. At this time, why are they trying to gain popularity?” he asked. He further commented, “Yes, everyone has the right to free speech and expression… Is it time to talk about all of this? The country is already going through all this… monsters came and attacked our people… we have to be united. Why to get cheap popularity on these occasions?”

Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, who appeared on behalf of Mahmudabad, countered that the post did not incite communal violence and instead reflected a patriotic sentiment. He questioned the basis for the FIRs, asking, “Where is the criminal intent?” He also informed the bench that Mahmudabad’s wife is nine months pregnant, requesting leniency on humanitarian grounds.

The social media post in question had drawn attention for its reference to Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, who were tasked with presenting updates on Operation Sindoor. In his commentary, Mahmudabad remarked: “… but perhaps they could also equally loudly demand that the victims of mob lynchings, arbitrary bulldozing and others who are victims of the BJP’s hate mongering be protected as Indian citizens. The optics of two women soldiers presenting their findings is important but optics must translate to reality on the ground otherwise it’s just hypocrisy.”

HSCW Slams Remarks as Disparaging Women Officers

This statement prompted strong criticism from the HSCW, which claimed it denigrated women officers and sought to undermine their credibility. The Commission stated that the professor’s remarks amounted to “disparagement of women in uniform” and questioned his intentions.

In his defense, Mahmudabad clarified that his words had been distorted. “I am surprised that the Women’s Commission, while overreaching its jurisdiction, has misread and misunderstood my posts to such an extent that they have inverted their meaning,” he said.

Following his arrest, Mahmudabad was presented before a local court in Sonipat, where he was initially remanded to two days in police custody. On May 20, the court transferred him to judicial custody for 14 days, rejecting the state police’s request for an extension of the police remand. The court scheduled the next hearing for May 27.

With reference to the interim bail granted today by the Supreme Court to Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad. Ashoka University shared a statement with the CSR Journal, “We are relieved and heartened by Prof Ali Khan Mahmudabad being granted interim bail by the Hon’ble Supreme Court. It has provided great comfort to his family and all of us at Ashoka University.”

SC Flags Post for Political Tension Amid National Tension

The Supreme Court bench noted that while parts of the post focused on the human cost of war, the overall message transitioned into pointed political criticism, which may have aggravated public sentiment during a period of national tension.

In the political sphere, the Congress party has condemned Mahmudabad’s arrest. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge criticised the ruling government, saying it reflects “how fearful the BJP is of any opinion which it dislikes.” He further denounced the misuse of power “either by fringe elements or through official state machinery” to suppress dissent.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, present during the hearing, was asked by the court to advise state authorities against registering further FIRs related to the same issue, to prevent overreach in the legal process.

Despite granting interim bail, the court’s stern remarks emphasised the importance of balancing free expression with the responsibility of maintaining public order. As the case proceeds, the SIT’s findings will likely play a crucial role in determining the legal standing of the professor’s controversial comments.

Woman Drugged & Gang Raped in Surat, BJP Leader Arrested, Suspended From Party

A shocking incident of alleged gang rape has come to light from Gujarat’s Surat. The high profile case has led to the arrest of a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) functionary and his associate. According to reports, Aditya Upadhyay, the general secretary of BJP’s Ward 8 unit, and Gaurav Singh stand accused in the case.

Both Upadhyay and Singh allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted a 23-year-old woman in Surat. As the case came to limelight, the BJP swiftly suspended Upadhyay from all party posts.

What happened?

Reports suggest that the 23-year-old victim encountered Aditya Upadhyay, an acquaintance, in Surat. Upadhyay allegedly coaxed her into his car under the guise of a casual conversation. While the trio was in the car, he reportedly offered the women a cold drink laced with a sedative. The drug caused her to become semi-conscious and drowsy.

Taking advantage of the situation, Upadhyay then drove the incapacitated woman to a hotel. The hotel is located in the Jahangirpura police jurisdiction. According to reports, Upadhyay’s associate, Gaurav Singh, was waiting outside the hotel.

The police stated that the duo is accused of taking turns to rape the victim while she was in a drugged and vulnerable state. After the gruesome assault, the accused dropped the survivor near her house. The girl was left alone in a vulnerable state and fled the scene.

FIR Registered, BJP suspends Upadhyay

The survivor immediately lodged a formal complaint as she regained her consciousness. The Jahangirpura police station registered a case against both Upadhyay and Singh. Both were promptly arrested by the police. The initial complaint of the victim led to the case being registered under sections dealing with gang rape.

Further investigation into the matter revealed the political connection of Aditya Upadhyay with BJP. Upadhyay held a prominent position in the ruling BJP’s local unit. The political connection of the accused sparked widespread outrage in the region.

However, in a move to contain the fallout, BJP Surat City chief Paresh Patel immediately issued a statement. The party suspended Upadhyay from the primary membership and all posts within the Bharatiya Janata party.

Investigation Underway, Remand Granted

Rakesh Barot, the DCP of Surat Zone-5, confirmed the arrests and stated that a thorough investigation is underway. Police are examining hotel CCTV footage, car records, call data, and the survivor’s statement to strengthen the case.

He said, “A complaint was registered yesterday at Jahangir Pura police station in which a rape case was filed against two accused. Based on the complaint, we have now registered it as a gang rape case. The complainant stated that she was taken to a beach and offered a cold drink, after which she became intoxicated. The two accused then took her to a hotel and raped her.”

In addition to this, Aditya Upadhyay and Gaurav Singh were produced before a Surat court on Tuesday, May 20. The court further granted the police a four-day remand for the accused. However, the Jahangirpura Police seeked a 10-day custody. According to reports, the police intend to use this custody period to retrace the duo’s route, verify whom they met, collect evidence, including any purchases made at the beach, and conduct medical tests.

Upadhyay’s hotel demolished

The case got more complicated after the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) demolished Baba Hotel. The Baba hotel is allegedly an illegal non-veg eatery on Ved Road. The hotel has alleged links to Aditya Upadhyay. According to SMC, the hotel was reportedly encroaching on a footpath and operating without necessary approvals.

The incident has ignited public outrage in Surat. Serious concerns are being raised over women’s safety and the potential misuse of political power in the state. More revelations are anticipated related to the ongoing case as the investigation intensifies.

History of Tea:

Tea Lover News

Starts day with Tea

History of Tea in India

History of Tea

Delhi Police Commissioner Transfers Posting Authority from Traffic Division to Headquarters

DP

Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora has intervened in the functioning of the Police Establishment Board (PEB) of the Traffic Management Division after reports emerged that the division was unable to process transfers and postings of its personnel in a timely and transparent manner.

As per a memorandum issued by Commissioner Arora on Saturday, the transfer and posting of police personnel within the Traffic Management Division will now be carried out by the Delhi Police Headquarters.

“It has come to notice that the PEB of the Traffic Management Division, constituted to process internal transfers/postings of police personnel, has been unable to process tenure-based or humanitarian-request-based transfers/postings in a timely and transparent manner,” stated the memorandum dated May 17.

“…It is hereby ordered that all documents pertaining to the pending transfers/postings of constables to sub-inspectors within the Traffic Management Division shall be sent to the Police Headquarters, and the PEB proceedings to process the same shall be conducted by the PHQ PEB under the chairmanship of the Joint CP Headquarters on May 19,” the memorandum further added.

Traffic Police in Delhi

As per a report by the Bureau of Police Research and Development released in 2017, the Delhi Traffic Police has a sanctioned strength of 6,600 officers. The Delhi Traffic Police has deployed 419 teams across the city to manage traffic in one of the busiest metropolitan areas in the country.

The Traffic Police unit also plays a crucial role for the recently elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the capital city, especially in enforcing pollution-related restrictions, such as the ban on vehicles older than 10 years (and in some cases, 15 years).

MCD to Roll Back User Charges, Introduce New House Tax Relief Scheme

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is all set to roll back the user charge levy on garbage collection and introduce an amenity scheme in its place to settle outstanding house tax dues. BJP leaders informed the press on Tuesday that commercial and residential properties saw a surge in property tax in April after the MCD levied an additional user charge for solid waste management during tax collection. This trend will be reversed with the new decision.

According to a statement by the Delhi BJP, the unit president Virendra Sachdeva has suggested separating the payment of property tax and user surcharge. The Mayor of Delhi has also agreed to this change.

Delhi Mayor Agrees

Mayor Raja Iqbal said that a private member resolution will be introduced in the MCD meeting on Valentine’s Day to ensure that no such charges are imposed in the future. He also announced a house tax scheme, wherein residents will only be required to pay property tax (with no interest or penalties) and will receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) upon payment. Residents will only be required to pay property tax for the last five years.

While the AAP government brought these user charges to light by accusing the BJP of imposing them, the BJP, in turn, has pointed fingers at the AAP. This political tussle is unfolding ahead of the upcoming MCD elections, bringing serious public attention to the issue of new taxes in Delhi.

“The user charge was imposed by the AAP without any consultation, which is the main reason for the opposition,” said Sachdeva.

In response, AAP Delhi convenor Saurabh Bhardwaj accused the MCD Commissioner of imposing these charges at the behest of the BJP.

Delhi’s First Transgender Councillor Bobi Quits AAP to Join Rebel Front IVP

Bobi

Delhi’s first transgender councillor, Bobi, has quit the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to join the newly formed front of 15 rebel AAP councillors — the Vikas Party (IVP) — on Tuesday. The defection of the 40-year-old Bobi has now left the Aam Aadmi Party with only 97 councillors in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

In the 2022 MCD polls, AAP wrested power from the BJP by winning 134 councillor seats. However, the tables have turned — the BJP now holds a majority with 117 councillors, while the IVP has 16, and the Congress holds eight. The Bharatiya Janata Party also secured success in the recently concluded mayoral elections in Delhi.

Bobi’s political career received a boost when she was elected from Sultanpuri-A in December 2022 on an AAP ticket.

IVP’s Leadership

Bobi submitted her resignation letter in the presence of IVP leaders, namely Mukesh Goel, Hemchand Goyal, Sanjay Sharma, and Anil Rana. “For the last two and a half years, AAP leaders treated me like a bonded labourer,” said Bobi. “In 2022, I was elected on an AAP ticket, but despite being in power in the Delhi Municipal Corporation, the party’s top leadership was unable to run the MCD smoothly. There was no coordination between the leadership and the corporators, which led to the party going into opposition. Due to the party’s failure to fulfill its promises to the public, I am resigning from the primary membership of the Aam Aadmi Party,” she stated in her resignation letter.

Mukesh Goel, who recently served as AAP’s Leader of the House in the MCD, told the national press that many councillors from AAP have been contacting the IVP to join its membership.

“These corporators want to work for the public, but they are unable to do so, which is causing frustration. Unlike AAP, we will focus on public-centric issues. If the ruling party brings any proposal in the public’s interest, we will support it. Similarly, if the opposition raises valid concerns, we will support that too,” said Goel.

The anti-defection law is not applicable to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections. Therefore, the defection of councillors cannot be challenged on legal grounds. This poses a challenge for AAP, which also lost power in Delhi to the BJP in the February Assembly polls after a decade-long rule in the capital.

The anti-defection law, outlined in the Tenth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, aims to prevent political defections by disqualifying legislators who violate their party’s directives. This legislation was introduced in 1985 through the 52nd Amendment Act and is commonly known as the Anti-Defection Law. It was designed to bring political stability by discouraging elected representatives — either Members of Parliament (MPs) or Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs) — from switching parties during their term in office. However, this law does not apply to MCD elections.

MCD Elections

Delhi will witness its Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections on June 2, to fill two seats in its 18-member financial and policy-making Standing Committee. These seats became vacant following the resignation of two councillors who were elected as MLAs this February. On the same day, elections for the posts of Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of all 12 zonal ward committees will also be held.

The two councillors who resigned had represented Wards 164 and 74 of the MCD and had served on the Standing Committee for the South Zone Ward Committee and the City-SP Zone Wards Committee, respectively.

The elections to fill these two Standing Committee seats were initially scheduled for May 21, but were postponed due to the military conflict between India and Pakistan, following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The rescheduled date — June 2 — falls on a Monday, and elections will be held through a secret ballot.
