Heathrow Airport Shuts Down for 24 Hours After Fire Causes Major Power Outrage

Heathrow Airport, one of the busiest airports globally, has been forced to shut down after a fire broke out at a nearby electrical substation. The blaze, which started late Thursday evening at the North Hyde substation in Hayes, west London, led to a major power outage that affected the airport and thousands of nearby homes.
The London Fire Brigade responded quickly, deploying 10 fire engines and about 70 firefighters to tackle the flames. As a precaution, around 150 people were evacuated from nearby properties, and local residents were advised to remain indoors and close windows due to the heavy smoke.

Operations at the Airport Stops

The fire at the substation caused a significant disruption at Heathrow, forcing the airport to suspend all operations until at least midnight on March 21. In an official statement, airport authorities confirmed that no flights could arrive, and all incoming flights were diverted to other locations.
Passengers were urged not to travel to the airport and instead contact their airlines for more details on their flights. According to flight-tracking services, over 120 flights were impacted by the closure.

Efforts for Power Restorations Underway

While the situation continues to evolve, Heathrow officials emphasised that safety remained their top priority, but they did not provide a clear timeline for when the airport might resume normal operations. Efforts to restore power are ongoing, and authorities are working closely with emergency teams to minimise further disruptions.
Meanwhile, the fire has left many local homes without electricity, and the surrounding areas continue to be affected by the power cut. The Scottish and Southern Electricity Network, which supplies power to the region, assured the public that their teams were on-site working to resolve the issue.

Frustrated Travellers Shares Disappointment

Passengers affected by the shutdown have expressed frustration online, with some questioning why the airport did not have adequate backup power systems in place. Others humorously referred to the situation by making comparisons to the “Die Hard” movie series, which features action-packed scenes in airports.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, a former Union Minister from India, also weighed in on the situation, joking on social media that perhaps India could help the UK manage its airports better, adding to the growing online discussions about the airport’s closure.

सूत्रों के अनुसार, जब आग लगी, तब जस्टिस वर्मा शहर में नहीं थे। उनके परिवार के सदस्यों ने फायर ब्रिगेड और पुलिस को सूचित किया। आग बुझाने के बाद, दमकल कर्मियों ने बंगले के कमरों में बड़ी मात्रा में नकदी पाई। इसके बाद, रिकॉर्ड बुक में बेहिसाब नकदी के मिलने का आधिकारिक विवरण दर्ज किया गया। CJI को इस घटना की जानकारी दी गई, जिसके बाद कॉलेजियम की बैठक में सबसे पहले उन्हें इलाहाबाद भेजने की सिफारिश की गई।

Justice Yashwant Varma का ट्रांसफर के अलावा होगी जांच

जस्टिस यशवंत वर्मा को अक्टूबर 2021 में इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय (Allahabad High Court) से दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय (Delhi High Court) में स्थानांतरित किया गया था। अब उनके खिलाफ जांच और महाभियोग की प्रक्रिया शुरू करने की बात उठ रही है, साथ ही उन्हें वापस भेजने की सिफारिश भी की जा रही है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट कॉलेजियम के कुछ सदस्यों ने इस स्थिति पर चिंता व्यक्त करते हुए कहा है कि यदि जस्टिस वर्मा का केवल स्थानांतरण किया जाता है, तो इससे न्यायपालिका की प्रतिष्ठा पर नकारात्मक प्रभाव पड़ेगा।

क्या जस्टिस वर्मा का होगा इस्तीफा?

देश में न्याय व्यवस्था पर जनता का विश्वास कमजोर हो सकता है। कॉलेजियम के कुछ सदस्यों ने सुझाव दिया है कि जस्टिस वर्मा से इस्तीफा मांगा जाना चाहिए। यदि वे ऐसा करने से इनकार करते हैं, तो संसद में उन्हें हटाने के लिए महाभियोग की प्रक्रिया शुरू की जा सकती है। इसके अलावा, यदि आवश्यक समझा जाए, तो उनके खिलाफ आंतरिक जांच भी की जा सकती है, जो एक सुप्रीम कोर्ट के जज और दो अलग-अलग हाई कोर्ट के चीफ जस्टिस की समिति द्वारा की जाती है। यदि जांच में जज दोषी पाए जाते हैं, तो रिपोर्ट संसद को आगे की कार्रवाई के लिए भेजी जाती है, जहां जज को हटाने के प्रस्ताव पर चर्चा और मतदान होता है। जस्टिस यशवंत वर्मा 2014 में इलाहाबाद हाई कोर्ट के जज बने और 2021 में उनका ट्रांसफर दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट में हुआ। वर्तमान में, वह दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट के जजों में वरिष्ठता के क्रम में तीसरे स्थान पर हैं।

Trump Signs Order to Dismantle US Department of Education

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to shut down the federal education department. The president smiled at the school children sitting on desks set up in the East Room of the White House as he waved the signed order at them.
The order instructs the education secretary to “take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education and return authority over education to the States and local communities, to the maximum extent appropriate and permitted by law.”
However, it does not provide details on how this process will work.
In order to shut the education department completely, an approval from congress will be required. The department was created in 1976 with an aim to strengthen the federal commitment to ensuring access to equal educational opportunities for all students.
This decision might affect funding of some low-income schools, as per the democrats. The White House has assured that some core functions of the department will remain. Trump stated that his administration would keep only the “core necessities” of the department, such as funding for low-income schools (Title I), Pell Grants for college students, and support for children with disabilities.
There is no clarification over the management of federal student loans. Although the department was initially set to continue managing these loans, the executive order claims that it lacks the staff to handle its “$1.6 trillion loan portfolio”. The responsibility for managing student loans is expected to be transferred to an entity better equipped for the task.

“It’s doing us no good”

At the signing ceremony, US President Trump criticised the Education Department for its performance, claiming, “It’s doing us no good.” While conservative groups such as the Heritage Foundation applaud the decision, critics warn that dismantling the department could leave vulnerable students without essential support. NAACP President Derrick Johnson described it as “a dark day for the millions of American children who depend on federal funding for a quality education.”
Education Secretary Linda McMahon has promised to reduce bureaucracy and give states more control over local schools. She also mentioned plans to move some responsibilities—like civil rights enforcement—to other agencies. “The Department of Justice already has a civil rights office,” she said, hinting at possible changes in how the department’s duties will be reassigned.

Environment, Global Warming, Eco System, ये कुछ ऐसे विषय हैं, जिन पर बातें तो खूब हो रही हैं, चिंता भी जताई जा रही है, पर धरातल पर काम बहुत कम हो रहा है। कभी किसी पेड़ को करीब से देखिए, ये जो हवा छोड़ते हैं, उसे इंसान ग्रहण करता है और इंसान जो Carbon Dioxide छोड़ता है, उसे ये पौधे खुद में समा लेते हैं। जिस दिन हम पेड़ों से अपने इस रिश्ते को समझ जाएंगे, उस दिन किसी से ‘पेड़ बचाओ, पेड़ बचाओ’ कहने की जरूरत नहीं पड़ेगी। Uttarakhand के Rudraprayag जिले के एक छोटे से गांव में रहने वाली 80 साल की Prabha Devi सेमवाल पेड़ों से इंसानों के इस रिश्ते को बखूबी समझती हैं। इस जीवट बुजुर्ग महिला ने अपने दम पर एक बंजर भूमि को हरे-भरे जंगल में तब्दील कर दिया है। Prabha Devi को अपना जन्मदिन या जन्म का साल याद नहीं है, लेकिन वो अपने जंगल के हर पेड़ को अच्छी तरह पहचानती हैं। Rudraprayag के पसालत गांव में रहने वाली Prabha Devi सेमवाल पिछले पचास वर्षों से जंगलों को सहेजने में जुटी है। दशकों की मेहनत के बाद आज इस महिला के पास अपना खुद का जंगल है, जिसे इन्होंने खुद उगाया, पाला-पोसा और सहेजा है। इनके जंगल में पांच सौ से ज्यादा पेड़ हैं और ये कहलाती हैं ‘जंगल वाली दादी’ !

जंगल है Prabha Devi की ज़िंदगी

बुजुर्ग Prabha Devi की जिंदगी अपने खेत, जानवरों और पेड़ों के इर्द-गिर्द घूमती है। प्रभा बताती हैं कि सालों पहले अवैध कटाई के चलते जंगल का अस्तित्व खतरे में था। लोग घरों-दफ्तरों के फर्नीचर बनाने के लिए लकड़ी काट कर ले जाते थे, पर पौधे लगाने के बारे में कोई नहीं सोचता था। घटते जंगल की वजह से मुश्किलें बढ़ने लगीं, तब उन्होंने पेड़ लगाने की ठानी। खेतों में फसल बोने की बजाय उन्होंने अपने गांव और उसके आस-पास पेड़ लगाने शुरू कर दिए। मेहनत रंग लाई और देखते ही देखते बंजर जमीन में हरियाली छा गई। Prabha Devi के जंगल में इमारती लकड़ी से लेकर रीठा, बांझ, बुरांस और दालचीनी के पेड़ हैं। प्रभा देवी सेमवाल के बेटे और बेटियां विदेश में सेटल हैं। वो अपनी मां को साथ रखना चाहते हैं, पर जंगल से, अपने गांव से जुड़ी Prabha Devi अपना देश छोड़कर कहीं और नहीं जाना चाहती। पेड़ों के संरक्षण के लिए 80 साल की Prabha Devi ने संतानों के साथ रहने के सुख को भी छोड़ दिया। Uttarakhand के पहाड़ों की ये बुजुर्ग महिला Global Warming या Climate Change के बारे में बहुत कम जानती है, पर वो ये समझती हैं कि हमें पेड़ों को बचाने की जरूरत है, और ऐसा करना हम सबकी जिम्मेदारी है।

कभी जड़ से नहीं उखाड़ा पेड़

Prabha Devi के 25 वर्षीय पोते अतुल सेमवाल बताते हैं कि बीते कुछ वर्षों से वो नौकरी के चलते देहरादून में रह रहे हैं। लेकिन उनका बचपन दादी के साथ गांव में ही बीता है। वो कहते हैं कि हमने कभी दादी को खाली बैठे नहीं देखा। वो कुछ ना कुछ करती रहती हैं। आज भी दादी सुबह 5 बजे उठ जाती हैं। दादी ने कभी किसी पेड़ को जड़ से नहीं उखाड़ा। यहां तक जब उन्हें पशुओं के लिए चारा या घास लानी होती है, तो वो उसे जड़ से उखाड़ने के बजाय ऊपर से काट लेती हैं। दादी के हाथ में जादू है, क्योंकि आज तक उन्होंने जो भी बीज रोपा है, वो पनपा है। उनके द्वारा उगाए गए जंगल में कई तरह के पेड़-पोधै हैं। Prabha devi के घर के बगीचे और जंगल दोनों में खूब फल लगते हैं। लेकिन वो उन्हें बाजार में बेचने के बजाए आस-पड़ोसवालों में बांट देती हैं। यहां तक उनके घर के बाहर लगे कुछ फलों के पेड़ खासतौर पर उन स्कूली बच्चों के लिए हैं, जो उस रास्ते से आते-जाते हैं।
Prabha Devi का जंगल आज गांव के लोगों की रोजमर्रा की लकड़ी और पशुओं के लिए चारे की जरूरत को पूरा कर रहा है। शहर जाकर बस चुके लोगों से Prabha Devi यही अपील करती हैं कि वे जब भी साल में एक या दो बार अपने घर जाएं, तो एक-दो पौधे जरूर लगाएं। इस तरह से हम पर्यावरण के लिए कुछ कर सकेंगे।

The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) announced Terminal 1 (T1) at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) as fully operational from April 15, 2025. This marks the completion of its Phase 3A expansion project of the Airport.
As the renovations for T2 will begin, all the flights operating from Terminal 2 (T2) will be shifted to Terminal 1. The move to refurbish the Airports is a part of an effort to modernize the system and streamline operations at the busy airport for passenger convenience.

T2 Temporarily Closed for Refurbishment

The terminal 2 handles around 270-280 air traffic movements daily and serves over 46,000 passengers. It will undergo refurbishment starting next month. The closure, expected to last for around four to six months. The refurbishment will begin in April and is slated for completion by the September quarter. This will allow T2 to be upgraded to handle more passengers once reopened.

T1’s Enhanced Features

According to reports the Terminal 1, is now capable of accommodating 40 million passengers annually, and boasts a host of upgraded features. The features include 100 check-in counters, 36 Self Baggage Drop (SBD) kiosks, and 108 Common Usage Self-Service (CUSS) kiosks.
In order to further improve the travelling passengers experience, the terminal has 20 Automated Tray Retrieval Systems (ATRS) for quicker security checks. In addition to this, the baggage handling capacity will now be doubled from 3,240 to 6,000 bags per hour. Furthermore 10 baggage reclaim carousels will be added.
The terminal’s area has also expanded significantly, from 55,740 sq. m to 2,06,950 sq. m. This area combines arrival and departure terminals for better flow and efficiency for the passengers. Delhi International Airport Limited has informed airlines about the terminal shift and advised them to adjust their operations accordingly.

X Sues Indian Government Over Alleged Misuse of Content Blocking Powers

X, formerly known as Twitter, has approached the Karnataka High Court with a petition against the Indian government, challenging its application of Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology (IT) Act. The social media giant argues that this section is being misused by authorities to block online content without adhering to proper legal procedures. X contends that the government’s approach bypasses the required safeguards outlined in India’s IT law, specifically the 2015 Shreya Singhal judgment, which mandates a structured review process before any content can be blocked.
The key issue lies in the Indian government’s use of Section 79(3)(b), which stipulates that platforms like X could lose their legal immunity if they fail to remove or block content flagged by authorities. However, X asserts that this provision should not be used for unilateral content blocking. Instead, the company argues that Section 69A provides a more robust framework for blocking content related to national security, sovereignty, or public order. It emphasises that Section 69A ensures a proper review process with safeguards, which Section 79(3)(b) lacks.

X Opposes Government’s Sahyog Portal, Calls it “Censorship”

A significant point of contention is the government’s push for X to participate in the Sahyog portal, a platform set up by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) to handle Section 79(3)(b) orders. X has opposed this, claiming that Sahyog functions as a “Censorship Portal” and imposes undue censorship on platforms without the necessary legal foundation. The company further states that it is already in compliance with the 2021 IT Guidelines, which mandate grievance officers to address content issues, and sees no need for additional officers.
X also argues that the government’s actions threaten its business model. The company relies on users sharing lawful content, and it warns that arbitrary blocking orders could damage its platform’s credibility and user trust. Moreover, X claims that the government’s actions undermine the platform’s ability to operate by circumventing legal protocols meant to protect free expression.

X Accuses Government of Creating Unlawful Content-Blocking System

In addition to its objections to Section 79(3)(b), X’s petition points to the government’s encouragement of ministries, states, and police forces to bypass established procedures for content blocking. X views this as an attempt to create a parallel, unlawful content-blocking system outside the legal framework.
During a hearing on March 17, the Karnataka High Court acknowledged X’s concerns and urged the company to return to court if the government escalates its actions. For now, the government has stated that no punitive steps have been taken against X for not joining the Sahyog portal.

It’s been five years since the mysterious death of Celebrity Manager Disha Salian. She was the former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. However the incident has taken a new turn as her father, Satish Salian, filed a petition in the Bombay High Court. The petition seeks a fresh investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Disha’s father alleges that his daughter was brutally raped and murdered. He further claims that the whole incident was a cover-up to protect influential political figures. Satish Salian is now seeking an FIR against Shiv Sena-UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray. He also requests to transfer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Who was Disha?

Disha Salian was a famous celebrity manager in the Indian entertainment industry. She had worked with many Bollywood and Television celebrities, including the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Disha was found dead on June 8, 2020, after allegedly falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Malad. Initially, the Police registered the case as an Accidental Death Report (ADR). However, her family now alleges foul play claiming it was a murder.
Her father also claimed that on June 8, Disha organised a home party at her house. The party was attended by Aaditya Thackeray, accompanied by his bodyguards along with actors Sooraj Pancholi and Dino Morea.
The plea reads: “The photographic evidence proves that the official post-mortem report was tampered with to match the fabricated suicide narrative created by the accused and the complicit police officers.”

Allegations of Murder

Satish Salian in his petition has accused his daughter of being brutally assaulted and murdered. He is particularly alleging the involvement of Shiv Sena-UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray. Advocate Nilesh Ojha, representing the family, has confirmed that the petition is in the process of being formally filed. He further stated that it will soon be registered with the High Court.
Ojha, also pointed out that the initial investigation was rushed. According to the plea, the post-mortem timelines of Disha and Sushant Singh Rajput had vast differences. It claimed that while Rajput’s autopsy was conducted on the same day of his death, the post-mortem of Disha was delayed by over 50 hours.

The Connection to Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death

However, there were speculations of a possible connection between the two cases. That is Disha’s death to Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise that occurred just days later. Salian is determined to uncover the truth behind his daughter’s death, emphasising inconsistencies at the crime scene, such as the lack of injuries that would typically occur from such a fall.

Shiv Sena’s Response

Shiv Sena-UBT has responded with skepticism. Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut indicated politics behind the petition, questioning why it was filed after five years.
Raut said, “I have looked at the police investigation, and it was an accident, not a murder… Her father has filed a petition five years after the incident. The whole state knows the politics behind this petition… They (BJP) are giving wind to the Disha Salian case to wash their hands off of the Aurangzeb issue”.
As the petition progresses, Satish Salian hopes the reopening of the case will bring clarity and justice to his daughter’s death.

Since its inception, Salaam Bombay Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Incubator has helped launch over 550 businesses, 70% of which are led by women.
Held at the School of Business Management, NMIMS Mumbai, the event saw twelve gold winners securing ₹50,000 to ₹60,000 and eight silver winners receiving ₹25,000 to ₹30,000, providing these young entrepreneurs with a crucial boost to establish and scale their ventures. For the first time, Dolphin Tanki welcomed entrepreneurs from rural India, further demonstrating that talent and innovation are not limited by geography.
Now in its fourth year, Dolphin Tanki is a seed-funding platform designed exclusively for entrepreneurs from Salaam Bombay Foundation’s Entrepreneurship Incubator. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a high-level review meeting of the Health Department on Wednesday. He directed officials to further enhance health services across the state. He provided key instructions on various aspects, including telemedicine, fire safety in hospitals, organ transplants, the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, and ambulance services.

Hub-Spoke model in Colleges

The Chief Minister emphasised that under the hub-and-spoke model, all medical colleges should be linked to the telemedicine services of KGMU, RML, and SGPGI. This will enable patients to consult specialist doctors with ease. To support patients and their attendants, he also instructed an increase in the number of night shelters at RML, Lucknow. Additionally, he stressed the need to expand access to organ transplant services, ensuring timely treatment for those in need.

  • The CM, also directed Health Department officials to conduct regular district visits, inspect hospital facilities, and implement necessary improvements.

Decrease in Dengue mortality

Reflecting on the significant expansion and improvements in healthcare over the past eight years, the Chief Minister noted a 93% reduction in the dengue mortality rate in 2024 compared to 2017. Similarly, cases of Japanese encephalitis and acute encephalitis syndrome have decreased by 87% and 76%, respectively, while deaths due to these diseases have declined by 97% and 98%. He attributed this progress to effective teamwork and strategic planning.
He further stated that Ayushman cards have been issued to 5.21 crore beneficiaries and emphasised the need to extend these benefits to other eligible individuals.
