Assam Rifles and Cachar Police Seize Heroin Valued at ₹4.05 Crores

The Assam Rifles organized a coordinated operation with the Cachar Police following actionable intelligence regarding drug trafficking activities in the Cachar district. The operation took place late on February 17, resulting in the apprehension of an individual transporting heroin valued at ₹4.05 crores. The suspect and the vehicle used for transport have been transferred to the Cachar Police for further investigation, as stated by the Headquarters Inspector General, Assam Rifles (East).

Continuing Anti-Drug Initiatives

Assam Rifles is actively engaged in combating drug-related offenses in the region, implementing regular operations aimed at dismantling narcotics networks. This recent seizure marks a notable achievement in their ongoing efforts against drug trafficking. Concurrently, a separate anti-narcotics operation was conducted in collaboration with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Manipur Police in the Sehjang area of Kangpokpi district, Manipur, on February 17, based on specific information received.

Destruction of Illicit Poppy Cultivation

The operation conducted in Manipur included area domination and systematic searches of locations suspected of illegal poppy cultivation. During the operation, the joint team identified and destroyed poppy crops spread over approximately 22 acres. This cultivation had the potential to yield around 160 kilograms of opium, designated to be worth several crores, thereby significantly undermining drug trafficking operations in the region, as per the information relayed by Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East).

Additional Operations in Manipur

On February 15, the Assam Rifles also set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) on State Highway-06 in Noney, Manipur, again responding to specific intelligence regarding cigarette smuggling activities. During this enforcement action, a vehicle traveling from Churachandpur to Kangpokpi was intercepted for an in-depth inspection. The search resulted in the seizure of a consignment worth ₹2.9 crores, along with the apprehension of two individuals connected to the smuggling operation. The seized goods and vehicles have been submitted for subsequent legal proceedings.
