Another gang-rape case reported from Kolkata’s Kasba; Model alleges assault over fake film offers

Barely two months after the shocking sexual assault of a student inside South Calcutta Law College in Kasba, another case has surfaced from the same area. A young model has accused two men of repeatedly gang-raping her under the pretext of offering her acting roles in films.

According to police, the victim approached Kasba police station on Monday night and filed an FIR. Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rupesh Kumar said, “A case of gang rape has been registered against the two accused. The investigation into the incident is underway.”

Friendship through social media

Police sources said the ordeal began in 2023, when the accused befriended the model on social media. Claiming to be film producers with connections in Tollywood and Bollywood, they allegedly lured her with promises of work and introduced her to people at parties in the entertainment circuit.

The victim told investigators that the two men later took her to different locations in Kasba, where they sexually assaulted her multiple times. “She eventually discovered that neither man had any connection to the film industry. After repeated attempts to contact them failed, she approached the police,” said a police officer.

Investigation and medical examination

Lalbazar sources confirmed that arrangements have been made for the victim’s medical examination. Investigators are also working to verify the identities of the two accused and are probing whether any individuals from the film industry were in contact with them.

The fresh allegations have reignited safety concerns in Kasba, already unsettled by the June incident at South Calcutta Law College, where a student alleged gang rape inside the campus. In that case, four accused — an alumnus, two students, and a security guard — were arrested.
