A disturbing case of violence on campus has surfaced at Amity University’s Lucknow campus, where a second-year BA LLB student, Shikhar Mukesh Kesarwani, was reportedly assaulted by five classmates inside a vehicle. The incident, which took place on August 26, came to public attention after a video of the act circulated widely online.
The video shows Shikhar being slapped repeatedly allegedly 50 to 60 times by fellow students. The 101-second clip, now viral, features both male and female students surrounding the victim inside a parked car on campus, hurling abuses and delivering physical blows, despite his visible distress.
The situation escalated inside the car when Shikhar was allegedly cornered and attacked after being asked to “talk” by the group. “Character ka bola tha… haath neeche kar… You will talk about Jahnvi… You will talk about Soumya,” one of the attackers is heard shouting while continuing to strike him. Despite an unseen person urging them to stop saying Shikhar had already apologised the assault continued.
Student Attacked Days After Ligament Surgery
According to Shikhar’s father, Mukesh Kesarwani, the young student had only recently returned to classes following a ligament surgery on August 11. He arrived at the university that day in a car with his friend Soumya Singh Yadav, unaware that his classmates were waiting for him in the parking area.
The accused Ayush Yadav, Jahnvi Mishra, Milay Banerjee, Vivek Singh, and Aryaman Shukla allegedly forced their way into the vehicle and confronted Shikhar. What followed, according to Mukesh, was a 45-minute ordeal of abuse and violence. “On August 11, my son underwent a ligament surgery. He was walking with the help of a stick. Jahnvi Mishra and Ayush Yadav then slapped my son at least 50 to 60 times and also abused me and my parents. They also threatened to kill us,” he said.
The father further alleged that Shikhar’s mobile phone was snatched, and certain chats were deleted before the device was destroyed. “When I visited the college, they threatened me and told me to never come again. They threatened to assault me in a similar way,” he added.
FIR Registered
Following the complaint lodged by Shikhar’s father at the Chinhat police station, an FIR was registered against the five students involved. Police officials confirmed that the case is under active investigation and efforts are underway to trace the accused.
Meanwhile, Shikhar has reportedly become psychologically disturbed after the incident and has not returned to college. “Before I could understand anything, I was slapped repeatedly. The anger of a girl and Ayush Yadav kept increasing. They were abusing me. They beat me so much that I became helpless,” Shikhar told the media.
Local authorities, including Chinhat SHO Dinesh Chandra Mishra, have acknowledged the incident and stated that action will be taken. “Soon a case will be lodged and further action will be taken,” he told reporters.
Amity Yet to Receive Formal Complaint
While the university has yet to release a formal response, officials said that no internal complaint had been filed as of the time of reporting. However, they assured that once a formal grievance is submitted, disciplinary procedures will be initiated.
The motive behind the assault remains unconfirmed, though the video indicates the attackers were enraged over alleged comments made by Shikhar involving two female students Soumya and Jahnvi. Investigators are currently examining the footage, witness statements, and digital evidence as part of their inquiry.
