Akshay Kumar Claims to Have Pioneered Paid Live Performances

The CSR Journal Magazine

With the upcoming release of his film “Bhooth Bangla,” Akshay Kumar is also hosting the television game show “Wheel of Fortune.” Recently, he welcomed select journalists to the show’s set, where he engaged in conversations about his career, interests, and transition between media. Kumar expressed a desire to include his colleagues Ajay Devgn, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Vidya Balan, Kajol, and his wife Twinkle Khanna in future episodes of the show.

Kumar Reflects on His Move to Television

During discussions about his shift from film to television, Akshay Kumar recalled his debut in the television industry in 2008, a time when such transitions were relatively rare. He emphasized his belief that an actor should not be confined to a single medium, stating, “I have worked on every medium, and I believe we should.” He addressed the topic of live performances, noting that while it was once uncommon for actors to charge for their appearances, he was among the first to do so. “I started a trend. Now, everyone charges for shows, and I think it’s also so important. We are performing and entertaining, and we should be paid. Everyone sitting here gets paid to do their job; that time should be valued,” Kumar remarked.

Response to Criticism on Transition

Kumar was asked how his peers reacted to his decision to enter the television space. He responded with a smile, stating, “What they said, really didn’t matter to me. And it never has mattered. I will do what I have to do, that’s it.” He shared an anecdote related to Salman Khan, who once mentioned that after his television debut, audiences stopped addressing him by his character’s name and recognized him instead as “Dus Ka Dum.” Kumar was then prompted to reflect on similar experiences.

Memorable Television Experiences

Recalling his time on the show “Khatron Ke Khiladi” which aired on Colors, Kumar explained that it was a significant program that garnered a large following. He participated in three seasons but had to step back due to scheduling conflicts. “But God was kind. I also did ‘MasterChef’ and ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge,’ and now I have this (‘Wheel of Fortune’),” he continued, adding humorously, “I have tried everything, even cutting ribbons.” These remarks showcased his diverse involvement in the entertainment industry.

Current Projects and Future Aspirations

As “Wheel of Fortune” continues to air on Sony TV, Kumar’s multifaceted career exemplifies his commitment to exploring various formats in the entertainment sector. His reflections on both television and live shows highlight his approach to evolving with the industry while advocating for fair compensation for performers.
