AAP Alleges Police Kidnapped MLA Kuldeep Kumar During Protest

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has claimed that its MLA, Kuldeep Kumar, was allegedly kidnapped from his residence in the early hours of August 18. This incident reportedly occurred during a protest concerning the murder of a sanitation worker employed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in Kalyanpuri. AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj took to X to disclose that approximately 20 individuals dressed in plain clothes arrived at the MLA’s home around 4 am and allegedly took him to an undisclosed location.

Bharadwaj emphasised that Kuldeep Kumar had been advocating for fair compensation for the family of the deceased sanitation worker. The protesters had hoped to meet with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta regarding their demands, but the MLA was reportedly taken away before such a meeting could occur.

Reactions and Ongoing Protests

Following the alleged abduction, AAP Vice President and MLA Sanjeev Jha informed that he was en route to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East, to determine Kumar’s current location. The party has also accused the police of forcibly proceeding with the last rites for the deceased sanitation worker, whose family is demanding a compensation package of Rs 1 crore.

Protests had been ongoing for two days prior to the reported kidnapping, with sanitation employees rallying for justice. AAP has stated that the police attempted to hastily conduct the cremation, raising concerns over the treatment of the deceased’s family during this difficult time. The narrative presented by AAP suggests a growing tension between the protestors and law enforcement authorities in response to the incident.

In a message posted on Facebook, a member of Kuldeep Kumar’s team urged supporters to sustain the protest until “Anil gets justice,” prompting calls for the public to gather at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. The post outlined that a group of 30 to 40 individuals allegedly arrived at Kumar’s home in the early hours, subsequently taking him away and removing the DVR from the CCTV system at the residence.

Background of the Alleged Murder

The alleged murder of 27-year-old Anil Kumar, an MCD sanitation worker, took place on August 16, 2023. Reports suggest that Anil was working when he was reportedly attacked with a knife. The alleged assailant fled the scene immediately following the assault. Local law enforcement responded to the situation shortly after being informed and have since launched an investigation into the matter.

CCTV footage from the vicinity is said to have recorded the stabbing incident, and investigators are currently reviewing this evidence, along with other available materials, to identify the suspect. The circumstances surrounding Anil Kumar’s death have raised significant concern within the community, leading both political leaders and the victim’s family to call for prompt action against the offenders.

As the investigation continues, both AAP and sanitation workers have reiterated their demands for accountability and compensation for the affected family. The situation remains fluid, with community members anxious for a resolution that reflects the gravity of the recent events in Kalyanpuri.
