A Medical Student from Ahmedabad Reported Missing in Georgia for Twelve Days

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 23-year-old medical student from Ahmedabad, Dhvanit Rajdeep, has been missing for twelve days in Georgia, causing significant concern for his family. Dhvanit had previously relocated from Ukraine to study at the Caucasus International University. His last communication was on May 14, when he spoke with his father, Mayur Rajdeep, before the call unexpectedly disconnected.

According to Mayur, Dhvanit faced persistent harassment from his landlord, identified as Anil, and his roommates at their shared accommodation. Allegations have surfaced indicating that they stole various personal belongings, including his money, food, and clothing. Following Dhvanit’s intention to move out, Anil allegedly refused to return his deposit and purportedly extorted $6,500 from Dhvanit’s account while keeping him confined in a room and taking his phone.

Upon gaining his freedom, Dhvanit received a flight ticket back to India from his father. However, just as he prepared to leave for the airport, his call was abruptly cut off during their conversation, raising additional alarm for his family.

Family’s Plea for Assistance

Dhvanit’s family has reached out for urgent assistance from the Indian government. Although the Indian Embassy and local political figures are reportedly providing support, they have expressed concerns about the lack of cooperation from Georgian authorities, including the police and university officials. The family has been actively seeking help to locate their missing son.

In a twist to the story, it has been revealed that Mayur had previously communicated with Anil before his son disappeared. Text messages indicate that there had been multiple disputes between Dhvanit and Anil, including an incident where Dhvanit allegedly struck Anil’s girlfriend. Anil reportedly sent threats to Mayur, warning that he would harm Dhvanit in retaliation for the altercation.

Dhvanit’s elder brother, Mihir, who arrived in Georgia from Canada, is actively engaging with local authorities to find out more about his brother’s situation. Through Mihir’s efforts, the family has learned that the local administration has not taken decisive action against those accused, including Anil, a friend named Manya, and a Georgian national who were briefly questioned and subsequently released.

Appeal to Indian Authorities

The Rajdeep family has made formal appeals to high-ranking officials in India, seeking intervention from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. They are urging the Indian government to liaise with Georgian authorities to secure the safe return of their son.

The situation has gained media attention as the family continues to face challenges in navigating the local legal framework and addressing their son’s troubling circumstances. As days pass, the family remains hopeful for a resolution, while simultaneously grappling with the emotional toll of the ongoing ordeal.

In light of these developments, it is imperative for the concerned agencies to expedite efforts to locate Dhvanit and ensure his well-being. The family’s distress underscores the need for timely and effective assistance in international student safety matters.
