Daylight Heist: 7 Accused Steal Sarees Worth ₹7 Lakh from Showroom in Odisha

The CSR Journal Magazine

A group of women is reported to have stolen sarees valued at nearly Rs 7 lakh from a Boyanika showroom in Odisha. The incident, which took place in broad daylight, was captured on CCTV and has since gained attention on social media. The police have received numerous reports regarding the theft, which involved six women and one man who allegedly executed the heist under the guise of being regular customers.

Method of Theft

The group is believed to have arrived at the showroom in a luxury Toyota Innova, which allowed them to create an air of normalcy upon entering the premises. Once inside, they appeared to browse the sarees while orchestrating the theft. Some members of the group engaged the staff by asking to see different saree options, thereby distracting them from their actions.

The theft was only discovered later during a routine stock check. Employees noticed the missing items, prompting a review of the CCTV footage. The recording revealed how the group operated in unison, creating a diversion while executing the theft and leaving without raising alarms.

Investigation Progress

Following the incident, a formal complaint was filed at Angul Town Police Station. An investigation was initiated based on the analysed CCTV footage. Police teams are actively working to identify the culprits and trace their movements after the theft. Initial investigations suggest the group may have fled towards Sambalpur, but their precise location is not yet confirmed.

Local traders have expressed concern about the implications of this theft, highlighting fears of similar organised criminal activities that could target other showrooms in the state. The authorities have called for increased vigilance among business owners and recommended enhancing surveillance measures to deter such incidents in the future.

This incident has raised alarms among local shopkeepers, many of whom are now considering reinforcing their security systems. The police have emphasized the importance of prompt reporting of suspicious activities and urged shop staff to remain aware of their surroundings while serving customers.
