The CSR Journal Magazine

In a chilling incident at Koothanadi near Punalur, a 39-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband, who later confessed to the crime during a Facebook Live broadcast. The victim, identified as Shalini, was attacked while taking a bath outside her home on Monday morning.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident occurred around 6:30 am when Shalini went to bathe near a water pipeline behind the kitchen. Her husband, Isaac (42), allegedly stabbed her multiple times with a knife, inflicting severe injuries on her neck, chest, and back. The couple reportedly had ongoing marital disputes.

Accused Live-Streamed Confession

Shortly after the incident, Isaac went live on Facebook and confessed to the murder. In the two-minute video, he made several personal allegations against Shalini, accusing her of infidelity, misusing jewellery to buy a vehicle, and being active in political meetings. He expressed anger over her independence and employment and claimed she had refused to follow his instructions.

Following the live confession, Isaac walked into the Punalur police station and admitted to killing his wife. A police team rushed to the residence and confirmed Shalini’s death. Her body was later shifted to the hospital for post-mortem examination.

Family and Background

Shalini worked as a school helper, while Isaac, a Gulf returnee, was employed as a rubber tapper. The couple had two sons, one of whom, aged 19, filed the police complaint leading to Isaac’s arrest. Authorities revealed that Shalini had been living separately due to repeated instances of domestic abuse but had recently returned to the house and was residing on the upper floor.

Forensic Analysis Underway

The police have registered a case under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The forensic team is currently examining the crime scene. Mobile phones belonging to both the victim and the accused have been seized as part of the investigation.
