UP CM and Leaders Commend Captain Smit Machchhar for Heroic Actions

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed admiration for Captain Smit Machchhar, recognising his courage and dedication in dealing with a mid-air crisis. In an official statement, Adityanath said that Machchhar’s ability to maintain composure amidst grave danger was commendable. He highlighted the pilot’s commitment to passenger safety, asserting that such bravery will be remembered.

Adityanath also extended his prayers for Machchhar’s swift recovery, stating, “His courage, presence of mind, and commitment to duty will always be remembered.” The CM’s remarks were shared on social media, resonating with many who acknowledge the sacrifices made by those in the aviation sector.

He concluded his message by invoking blessings for Machchhar’s health and expressing national pride in the pilot’s actions during the emergency. The incident took place on 30 September when a serious situation unfolded in the cockpit during a flight.

Rajnath Singh and Other Leaders Praise Falconry

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh echoed the sentiments of Adityanath, asserting that the nation stands united in support of Machchhar. Singh stated that the courage exhibited by the pilot could inspire the entire country. He remarked on Machchhar’s selflessness in risking his life to ensure the safety of others, stating that such dedication to duty exemplifies the highest traditions of service.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal labelled Machchhar a “true hero,” celebrating his decisive actions during a life-threatening moment. Goyal noted that despite facing serious injury and extreme adversity, Machchhar managed to regain control of the aircraft, saving 174 lives from potential catastrophe. His comments were also shared online, highlighting the pride felt among citizens for the pilot’s actions.

Several other political figures, including Arvind Kejriwal, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, and Jyotiraditya Scindia, also praised Machchhar for his valour in dangerous circumstances, reinforcing the widespread recognition of his extraordinary courage.

Incident Details and Investigation

The incident involving Flydubai Flight FZ1073 occurred when the aircraft made a diversion to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, following an altercation that left Captain Machchhar injured. Reports indicate that the situation escalated to a point where the pilot had to take decisive action to secure the safety of all on board. Following the successful landing, injured passengers and crew were provided with medical attention.

Captain CS Randhawa, President of the Federation of Indian Pilots, underscored the need for a thorough investigation into the cockpit incident, citing concerns over Cockpit Resource Management failures. He called for accountability to understand how a physical altercation could arise in such a critical environment.

Despite various opinions about the nature of the events, Randhawa indicated that investigations by Saudi authorities should clarify the situation. Simultaneously, he lauded Machchhar’s bravery for reportedly overcoming the assailant to protect the aircraft and its occupants.

Machchhar’s Experience and Recovery

Captain Smit Machchhar, who boasts over 13 years of experience in commercial aviation, is currently recovering in a hospital in Tabuk. His prior service with SpiceJet, where he accumulated approximately 9,750 flying hours, showcases his extensive background in aviation. The incident has sparked widespread acclaim from various sectors of society, with calls for recognition of the risks pilots face daily.

Flydubai has confirmed that normal procedures were followed during the flight, and necessary investigations are being conducted by authorities. The commendations of leaders and the aviation community affirm the high regard in which Machchhar is held following his display of exemplary professionalism and courage.
