Haryana : UK-Return Son Beats Mother to Death for Opposing Love Marriage, Hides Body in Tank

The CSR Journal Magazine

Police have solved the murder of a woman in Haryana’s Yamunanagar district, revealing that the crime was committed by her own son with the help of a close friend. The victim, Baljinder Kaur (45), wife of the sarpanch of Shyampur village, was allegedly killed following a long-standing family dispute over the son’s desire to marry for love.

Body Found in Water Tank

Baljinder Kaur’s body was discovered on December 24 in the water tank of her house. Her head was submerged in water while the rest of her body was hanging outside. Injury marks were found on her forehead, her bangles were broken, and personal items like slippers and a shawl were lying nearby, raising suspicions of foul play.

Addressing a press conference, DSP Ashish Chaudhary said the accused, Gomit Rathi, had secretly returned from England on December 18 after two years, without informing his family. His return was known only to his friend Pankaj. Gomit allegedly hid in the cattle shed of his house to avoid being noticed by villagers.

Murder Planned and Executed

On the evening of December 24, when Baljinder Kaur came to feed the animals, Gomit allegedly attacked her with a stick, strangled her to death and dumped the body in the water tank to make it appear accidental. Police said Pankaj assisted Gomit before and after the murder and helped conceal his return to India.

The police said the crime was carried out with the help of an accomplice. After the incident, the accused continued to stay at home normally. Both accused were produced before a court and sent on a four-day police remand.

Motive Linked to Love Affair

Investigators revealed that Gomit was in a relationship with a woman from a nearby village, which his mother strongly opposed. The disagreement reportedly led to frequent conflicts between them. Unable to resolve the matter, the family had sent Gomit to England on a study visa two years ago.

After the family approached senior police officials, a murder case was registered and handed over to the Crime Branch. A Special Investigation Team used mobile location data, call records and movement analysis to piece together the events. Both accused were arrested, produced in court and sent on four-day police remand. Further investigation is ongoing.
