President Droupadi Murmu embarked on a significant journey on August 4, as she boarded a special train from Bhubaneswar Railway Station, travelling to Berhampur. This event is noteworthy as it marks the first occasion that a sitting President of India has used this mode of transport to reach Berhampur Railway Station. Accompanying her were Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, highlighting the event’s importance in the region.

Security Arrangements for the Presidential Visit

The Commissionerate of Police, Government Railway Police (GRP), and Railway Protection Force (RPF) implemented extensive security measures during the President’s journey. A multi-tier security cordon was established around Bhubaneswar Railway Station, ensuring safety and order. Platforms 1 and 2 were cleared exclusively for the Presidential Special Train, reflecting the seriousness of the arrangements made for this historic visit.

Upon arriving in Berhampur, the Presidential convoy is expected to continue to Taptapani, a region known for its hot springs. There, President Murmu plans to offer special prayers at the revered Maa Kandhuni Devi Temple and perform aarti at a nearby Shiva Temple. These ceremonial aspects underscore the cultural significance of her visit as she engages with local traditions and spiritual practices.

Following her scheduled temple visits, the President will proceed to Gopalpur, where she is slated to spend the night at facilities associated with the Army Air Defence College and Army School. This part of the itinerary not only allows for rest but also highlights the connection between the Presidency and the armed forces.

Three-Day Presidential Visit to Odisha

This journey forms part of a three-day visit by President Murmu to Odisha, which commenced on August 3, 2023, with the inauguration of Jagadguru Kripalu University in Cuttack. The visit will conclude tomorrow, with her return to the national capital. The series of events in Odisha illustrates the President’s commitment to engaging with various sectors, including education and local culture.

On August 3, prior to her travel to Berhampur, President Murmu met with Saidov Bakhtiyor Odilovich, the Minister of Foreign Affairs from the Republic of Uzbekistan, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. This high-level meeting reflects the deepening partnership between India and Uzbekistan, focusing on areas such as trade, rare earth minerals, and educational initiatives.

During this engagement, both leaders underscored their dedication to advancing strategic cooperation between New Delhi and Tashkent. They reached a consensus that the discussions held during this visit would further reinforce the bonds of friendship and collaboration between the two nations. Such diplomatic efforts are crucial for fostering long-term relationships in Central Asia and enhancing mutual interests.
