There are a lot of ways to show your mom how much you love her on Mother’s Day 2020, but nothing hits quite like a gift that’s truly sentimental, a handmade card or a simple photograph collage that captures all the memories you both cherish. The current stressful time that we all are going through makes it even more important for us to do something special for our mother come May 10th.
Remember that picture, which captures your first day of school and how your mother held your hand till the time you sat down in class? Or the one where she picked you up in her lap and smiled not at the camera but at you! It is time you recreated some of those old memories and spread a wide smile to your dear mom’s face.
“We may have to celebrate differently this year due to quarantine restrictions but honouring our moms or mother figures and the fundamental role they play in all of our lives can still be special. Whether in person, on video or on the phone, it is a time to let your mom know how much you appreciate her love and positive presence in your life,” says Caroline Boudreaux, Founder, Miracle Foundation India.
Mother’s Day is her Foundation’s special day. She told The CSR Journal, “It was the day I stumbled into an orphanage and found 110 kids living without their mothers. It was the day my life changed and I realised I could make a difference for children if I could find people to care for them.”
Here are some ideas on how to have a rocking Mother’s Day 2020 despite the lockdown:

Jar of notes

Fill a jar with reasons why you love your mom, cover the wall in sticky notes with your favourite things about her, or write a happy message on her mirror using washable markers. It’s all about giving your mom a bunch of visible reminders about what she means to you. And if you aren’t together in this lockdown, have a sibling or your father put this together for you. That way, your mom will feel like you’re right there with her.

Recreate nostalga

Stage yours and your mom’s most treasured photograph and relive that special moment. For a brief moment, you will be able to travel back in time. Add a heartfelt message and it might even win her an Instax Camera. Fujifilm is running a special Mother’s Day campaign #ITSTIMETOGIVE from May 7-12. All you have to do participate is tag @instaxindia on Instagram and use hashtag #ITSTIMETOGIVE on your nostalgia-loaded photograph with mom.

Watch a virtual concert

Cookie brand Sunfeast Mom’s Magic from ITC paid tribute to mothers with a virtual musical concert as part of its #StayStrongMoms Campaign for Mother’s Day 2020. The campaign germinated from the belief that a mother is the “Warmest Superpower”.
Eight celebrity singers and their families came together to perform online for all the mothers in India. Padma Shri Usha Uthup, Padma Shri Kavita Krishnamurthy, Akriti Kakar, Harshdeep Kaur, Anweshaa, Ankita Bhattacharyya, Ankita Kundu and Gayatri Kunal Ganjawala participated. From April 11 to 18, one artist went “live” every day, with family in tow, for 30 minutes in an engaging session on the brand’s social pages.

Viewers had the luck of witnessing three generations of the Krishnamurthy family together while Usha Uthup’s daughter co-hosted with her from another city.

Make a scrapbook

If you are into film or photography, try your hand at putting together a scrapbook documenting all the amazing moments you have shared with your mom. This one might take a little bit of planning if you do not have a tonne of snaps already, but once you have the materials you need, you can create a unique and thoughtful gift. It is also the perfect thing to send to your mom if you are not together in the quarantine.

Spa day at home

Go through your cupboards and see what you have and make the best use of them. Pamper your mother by giving her that foot massage she has been asking for.

Have a virtual family celebration

Let us stick to the social distancing norms and make celebrations virtual. Just because we cannot be together does not mean we can’t see each other, right. There are so many great ways to connect virtually during this time. Take advantage of them to spend some quality time together this Mother’s Day 2020.
