A very shocking incident has come to light from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district. A 22-year-old Madrassa student was repeatedly raped over the course of 3 years by the Cleric. The woman was further forced to undergo multiple abortions causing health issues.
The 45-year-old madrassa teacher has been arrested on charges of repeatedly raping the female student and forcing her to undergo abortions on multiple occasions. The survivor is a native of Bihar, told police. She was brought to Meerut under false promises of marriage and subjected to three years of brutal confinement and sexual abuse by the cleric.
According to her statement, the survivor was taken to Meerut five years ago by the accused. The cleric is reportedly a relative of the survivor. She was later admitted to a local madrassa where the accused served as a teacher. In her statement, the woman said she became pregnant three times during the prolonged abuse. Each time, the accused along with his wife coerced her into getting an abortion causing her major health issues.
Cleric’s Wife Booked for Criminal Conspiracy
Meerut Superintendent of Police (City), Ayush Vikram Singh, confirmed the arrest on Friday. He also stated that an FIR has been lodged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections related to rape.
In addition to the Cleric his wife has also been named in the FIR for her alleged involvement and conspiracy but remains absconding. “The woman’s statement has been recorded under legal provisions. Medical tests have been conducted, and we are awaiting the reports. Investigations are ongoing,” SP Singh said.
Accused Dismissed Allegations as Mental Instability
Furthermore, Kotwali Circle Officer Ashutosh Kumar added that the victim tried to escape multiple times. She was repeatedly locked up and silenced. The survivor in her complaint stated that on June 9, she attempted to flee. However, she was reportedly detained again by the couple. She was allegedly assaulted again on July 4. The victims’ screams were so loud that prompted neighbours, alarmed by her screams, to inform the local police.
The woman also revealed that she tried to share her ordeal with neighbours. However, the accused and his wife dismissed her as “mentally unstable” to discredit her in front of the neighbours. The police noted that both the accused and the survivor were living in the same house during the time of the abuse.
Case Mirrors 2024 Ghaziabad Cleric Rape Incident
The recent incident has drawn comparisons to a similar case reported in Ghaziabad in 2024. In that case, a cleric named Zabbar was arrested for allegedly raping a female student. He also blackmailed the victim using secretly recorded videos.
Zabbar reportedly used these videos to force her into silence. The matter only came to light after the video circulated on social media. This led the to police action and his subsequent arrest under charges of rape and criminal intimidation.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Response
The Meerut case has sparked widespread concern over the safety of women and girls in religious institutions like Madrassa. Police officials have assured that the investigation is being handled with urgency and sensitivity. “These are serious allegations involving abuse of power and trust. We are committed to ensuring justice,” said SP Ayush Vikram Singh.
