Mahua Moitra Alleges Mass Voter Manipulation by BJP, Claims Discovery of 40,000 Form-6 Applications

The CSR Journal Magazine

Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament Mahua Moitra recently accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of significant voter manipulation tactics. During a statement, she claimed that BJP associates were apprehended while allegedly attempting to submit an excessive number of Form-6 applications, commonly used for adding new voters to electoral lists. She stated that between 30,000 to 40,000 Form-6 applications were discovered, prompting serious questions about the integrity of the voter registration process.

Concerns Over Fairness of the Voter Registration Process

Moitra raised specific concerns regarding the volume of Form-6 submissions by BJP representatives, noting that typically, a booth-level agent can only collect around 50 forms. She questioned the legitimacy of the BJP’s actions, citing recent instances in Maharashtra, where 4 million new voters were reportedly added within five months. The allegations surfaced amidst increased scrutiny on voter enrollment practices in light of forthcoming elections, as opposition factions voiced fears about potential misuse of electoral protocols.

Protests Erupt Over Alleged Irregularities

In response to the allegations, TMC supporters initiated an indefinite protest outside the Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office in Kolkata, emphasizing accusations of widespread irregularities in the submission of Form-6 applications. The protest, which has persisted for two days, is set against a backdrop of escalating political tensions, particularly following violent confrontations between TMC and BJP members in the area. Booth-level officers associated with TMC have committed to maintaining their demonstration indefinitely.

Accusations Against Electoral Officials Intensify

Protesters have alleged that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is colluding with the BJP, a claim that has further intensified the political standoff. During the ongoing demonstration, TMC supporters reiterated their calls for action against individuals who purportedly attempted to submit large numbers of Form-6 applications. One protestor articulated the need for accountability, insisting that those responsible for the alleged irregularities at the CEO’s office be penalized.

Violent Clashes Escalate Amid Protests

The controversy erupted following an incident in which booth-level officers claimed to have intercepted a BJP worker attempting to deliver more than 400 Form-6 applications to the SEO’s office. This raised suspicions among TMC supporters, leading to immediate protests outside the office. The situation escalated when both TMC and BJP supporters clashed, resulting in significant unrest, with more than 500 individuals involved in the conflict lasting over eight hours. Police intervention was required to disperse the crowd and restore order.

Increased Security Measures Implemented

In light of the unrest, local authorities have heightened security in the vicinity. A substantial presence of police and central forces has been deployed to ensure public safety and prevent any future clashes. Barricades have been strategically placed along key routes near the CEO’s office to manage movement and deter large gatherings. Traffic restrictions have likewise been imposed, leading to alterations in vehicular routes, which has caused inconvenience for local commuters.

Authorities Monitoring the Evolving Situation

Officials have indicated that these precautionary measures will remain in effect until the situation stabilizes. With tensions persisting, both TMC and BJP supporters remain firm in their positions, keeping the area around the CEO’s office highly sensitive. Authorities continue to monitor developments closely to avert further political escalation related to the Form-6 controversy.
