Now Link your Mobile number with Aadhaar from the comfort of home!

The CSR Journal Magazine

You no longer have to run around to update a new mobile with Aadhaar. Instead, very soon you will be able to do it from the comfort of your home as per a latest notification from Aadhaar regulatory body UIDAI. To do this, all you need to do is install the Aadhaar app on your phone. Mobile number can be updated through OTP and face verification, the Aadhaar authority said.

In a recent post on the X handle, UIDAI said, “Coming Soon! Update Mobile number in Aadhaar from the comfort of your home — through OTP & Face Authentication. No more standing in the queue at the Aadhaar Centre. Stay tuned…”

The Aadhaar regulatory body said that soon it will be possible to update mobile numbers from home through secure digital verification. This upcoming feature will confirm the user’s identity by combining OTP verification and facial recognition through the Aadhaar app.

How is Aadhaar and mobile number linking done currently?

Currently, everyone who wants to update their Aadhaar-linked mobile number has to physically visit an authorised centre for the verification process. For many people, especially senior citizens, disabled people and residents of remote or rural areas, this is inconvenient and time-consuming as they are made to wait for a long time. The new facility is expected to benefit people and save time.

How the new system works?

Through a new feature, the Aadhaar regulatory body UIDAI has taken the initiative to eliminate these problems by getting the entire process done on the smartphone of the Aadhaar user. This will save both the time and effort of the user. According to the Aadhaar authority, through this system, verification will first be done with the OTP sent to the user’s current or new mobile number.

Then, facial recognition will be completed using the built-in verification tool in the Aadhaar app. In this method, the security of the user will be maintained and the process will be easy, the Aadhaar authority said. They claim that there will be no need to go to the Aadhaar centre for this upgrade. The post of the X handle mentions that when the new app comes, customers will not have to queue up at the Aadhaar centre.

Although the feature of updating the mobile number from home has not been launched yet, UIDAI says that it will be launched very soon.

Aadhaar mandatory for registering new voters: West Bengal Election Commission

The West Bengal State Election Commission has made a major change in the rules for registering new voters. From now on, names will no longer be registered offline. Names will have to be registered online only. Also, from now on, Aadhaar card is mandatory for registering new voters. The new rules have been implemented during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) or electoral rolls.

After SIR is completed, the draft voter list of the state will be published on December 9. Then, new voters can register their names by filling Form-6. Applications can be made till January 8. The Commission has stated that ‘e-signature’ is mandatory for registering new voters. Which means, registration will have to be done through Aadhaar card with OTP. Therefore, Aadhaar card becomes mandatory for registering new voters.

However, Aadhaar is not the only document. Several other documents will have to be provided for registering names on the voter card like it was needed earlier. To apply, new voters will have to provide the names of their parents or grandparents who are in the 2002 voter list.

Aadhaar Invalid for Birth Date: Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh government

Several Indian states have begun strict measures to stop using Aadhaar cards as proof of date of birth, following long-standing clarifications from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh lead the crackdown, cancelling birth certificates issued solely on Aadhaar and warning against fraud that could aid illegal citizenship claims. This move aligns with Supreme Court rulings and UIDAI guidelines that limit Aadhaar to identity verification only.
