Kiren Rijiju Releases Video of Chaos in Lok Sabha on February 4

The CSR Journal Magazine

On Tuesday, February 10, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju unveiled a video depicting the proceedings of the Lok Sabha on February 4, alleging that members of the Congress party engaged in disruptive behavior. According to Rijiju, this conduct ultimately compelled Prime Minister Narendra Modi to forgo his scheduled response to the President’s Address.

Claims of Disruption by Congress MPs

Rijiju shared the footage on the platform X, asserting it showcased Congress women MPs crossing into the treasury benches, brandishing banners and placards, and encircling the Prime Minister’s designated area. He remarked on social media that such actions represent a low point for the Congress party. He emphasized that intervention was essential to prevent potential escalation, stating that had the BJP MPs not been restrained, the confrontation could have become much more severe.

Details of the Incident in Lok Sabha

The incident arose during a session in which Prime Minister Modi was supposed to address the Motion of Thanks related to the President’s Address. However, Speaker Om Birla announced that he had received credible information indicating an impending disruption by certain opposition MPs, leading him to advise the Prime Minister against attending the session.

Rijiju highlighted that the behavior displayed by Congress MPs necessitated the restraint of the BJP’s NDA members to maintain decorum. He recalled instances where Congress MPs allegedly threatened the Speaker in his chamber, claiming that complaints were filed by BJP women MPs regarding these threats.

Congress Women MPs write to Speaker Om Birla

In response to the allegations, Congress women MPs addressed Speaker Birla, vehemently denying claims of threatening behavior or attempts to obstruct the Prime Minister. Congress leaders contended that the Prime Minister’s absence stemmed from an apprehension to speak in their presence, rather than any provocation from their side.

Escalation of Tensions

Tensions intensified on Tuesday with BJP women MPs submitting a letter to the Speaker in support of his assertions, accusing members of the opposition of inappropriate conduct. They described instances where Congress women MPs allegedly entered the Well of the House and disrupted proceedings by throwing papers. The BJP MPs called for stringent action against those responsible for the alleged disturbance.

This letter was intended as a countermeasure to the Congress MPs’ objections, who criticized Speaker Birla for making what they called “false and defamatory” claims purportedly under pressure from the ruling coalition.

Current Developments

As the situation unfolded, opposition leaders are considering submitting a notice seeking the removal of the Lok Sabha Speaker from his position, indicating the ongoing conflict between the ruling party and the opposition. The series of events has heightened tensions within the Parliament, resulting in an atmosphere marked by accusations and counter-accusations among different political factions.
